carb to tpi questions
a friend of mine wrecked her 85 iroc, she asked me if i'd buy it for $400 and i've been thinking about taking it and grabbing the tpi off it and all that goes with it to put on my car. I keep hearing that tpi falls flat on it's face at 4500, i've never worked with fuel injection so i'm wondering if there's anyway to get it to keep up until around 6500 or 7000? I'm also wondering about flow numbers on a 305 tpi intake, wha injectors they came with, etc. Would i be better off saving a bit more and grabbing an mpfi system from accel or holley? I'm looking at a fairly decent nitrous shot (200-250) in the near future so i need to know how much more cost is gonna be involved there. i've stripped my car of emissions and sensors related to emmisions, can i get around all the damn sensors if i get a custom prom or something?
My car is gonna be a daily driver when it gets entirely done, so i'm looking at tpi strictly for the easier cold starts and the fuel economy. i don't want to lose all the advantages of having my carb though (don't want it to be a pain to adjust, don't want a bunch of **** in the way, etc).
thanks in advance, i know alot of this...probally all of it has been asked, but i don't have time to research because she's on my *** about whether or not she should buy it back from the ins. co.
perhaps it should be noted that i'm hoping to dive into the low twelves or high elevens this summer.

Sure there are ways to make it rev better, but they're expensive. $400 is a steal, you can likely sell parts besides the tpi for more than that. They have 19# injectors, and the MAF flows around 550cfm. You can't get around the sensors with a custom prom, gotta have them all with tpi. The only thing you can eliminate is the egr and smog wiring/pump, air conditioning, heater.. and maybe a couple things I'm not thinking of. As far as a 250 shot of nitrous.. I don't know what kind of engine you've got, but that 305 she had won't last long with it.
11s with tpi is expensive and.. just about impossible without forced induction on the stock intake. What you'd probably want to do is buy her car, sell everything except the wiring and computer, and purchase a modded LT1 intake from John Millican @ www.lt1intake.com or a Holley Stealth Ram. Those are your high revving intakes right there if you're set on efi. You can probably make some profit off of her car if you take the time to part it out. After this you'll also need a custom prom. Hope that helped.

thanks, it helps alot. i didn't know the flow numbers were that low
And my engine, as of this spring, will be a 355 with an all forged bottom end, so i'm not too worried about it taking the nitrous i wanna throw on it.
with a deal like that lt1 intake, is the computer and wiring all a direct connection kinda deal or is that alot of rewiring and custom prom burning? How hard is it to install injectors in something like that? and lastly, why is there so much modification involved for the distributor hole? Are all lt1's distributorless or what?

Yup, no distributors on LT1s. It seems like the LT1 intake with TPI wiring is down pretty well and these guys have been tuning it to run well. Just to inform you, I had heard that it was pretty difficult to tune a miniram, which is just about the same as the LT1 intake, before the LT1 started being used on older style engines. If you really want to check it out, look around the DIY prom board for people running the LT1 intake or the miniram and burning their own proms. Injectors are a piece of cake, but you have to account for them in the chip.
