Summit G5000 Cam for TPI

Has anyone used this cam? Here are the Summit specs and ad info. They say its made by Crane...

Chevy: 1985-87 Camaro 305, 350, 1985-87 Corvette 350; Pontiac: 1985-87 Firebird 305, 350, 268/278 degrees duration TPI camshaft kit

Advertised duration: 268 intake/278 exhaust
Duration at .050 in. cam lift: 204 intake/214 exhaust
Gross valve lift: .420 in. intake/.442 exhaust
Lobe separation: 112 degrees

Stuffed in an '86 IROC Camaro with a 305 TPI motor and an ADS Super Chip installed, our TPI cam kit made 40 extra horsepower and knocked almost a full second off the IROC's 0-60 times--and the computer worked perfectly. This kit includes the cam, lifters, springs, retainers, and lube. If your car has more than 30,000 miles, we suggest you add a new timing chain.

What do you think? I am considering this for my 305 TPI IROC.
Thanks.

Summit has a cam kit of their own with the exact same grind for $71, it comes with the lifters and assembly lube. I have that cam in my 350, it is a nice cam, idles smoothly and makes gobs of torque.

Car: 1989 GTA

That Summit G5000 cam is made by Elgin, a cam grinder used by most everyone as their 'house' cams.

Morley is right; the TPI cam kit sold by Summit is also available as one of Summits 'house-grind' cam and lifter kits for cheap.

Heck even Lingenfelter sold that same flat tappet cam years ago in his catalogue, and might even today (don't have any of his recent catalgues.)

With those specs its should make for a great street cam with great bottom end torque. I can see why Summitt markets it for the pre-roller cam TPI cars.

Thats an ancient grind as already mentioned, and not only that it's barely bigger than an L98 cam. If you're going to go through the trouble of swapping cams in car, i'd make it worthwhile. You'd be better off with a modern grind with modern lobe profiles like a comp XE series.
Don't get me wrong, anything will kick a peanut cam's ***. Yes you could easily see over a second in the 1/4 from it, thats abot the difference between a peanut cam 305 and an L98 cam 305 stock. I just wouldn't fight an in car cam swap for a compromise grind, i'd go for the best.

What would you consider the best/better for an '86 TPI 305, like the one mentioned/demonstrated by Summit?? I ask, because I'm looking for a cam to put in my stock '86 IROC. A full second drop on the 1/4, sound very nice....but if you know of a cam/kit that could give more for near the same price, I'd be very appreciateive!
