LT1 Tips and Tricks Recap

Sorry, Hodge, the other was getting hard to read. Go ahead and redo again if you would like. Does this about cover it?

1. You'll need to use a 94'-up LT1 intake due to the placement of the fuel rail crossover.

2. 89'up throttle bodies linkages are different and have some trouble clearing the coolant fittings.
(a resolution to this was unclear so anyone that could elaborate would be appreciated)

3. Most people have used a Felpro 1205 intake gasket with great success.

4. It appears that the Aeromotive AFPR will not clear the distributor.(The final answer to this one was not posted either. Anyone with the final answer please chime in)

5. The LT1 intake sits a few inches LOWER than the TPI one did and the TPI air intake tubing works but the path becomes less straight because it must travel down to the lower height of the LT1.

6. The EGR ports on stock TPI cast iron heads is not fully covered by the LT1 intake. Material can be added to the intake to remedy this. Most aftermarket heads either don't have the EGR passages or they are smaller and fully covered by the intake. L98 aluminum heads fall into the catagory of no EGR passages.

7. If you have an Automatic Trans you'll need to use the throttle cable bracket from a 93' LT1 because it is the only one that has provisions for the TV cable. (or fab up your own, of course)

8. Be sure to mount the remote T-stat housing below the level of the radiator cap so as to prevent air from being trapped in the housing.

9. some sensor wires need to be extended to reach thier new locations. Simply soldering a piece of wire is all it takes to do this. The ones that I know of that need to be extended are the MAT, coolant temp sensor and MAP(if equiped)(anyone that knows of another one please post it)

10. The TPIS AFPR fits and clears the distributor with no problems. $50 for hat or $100 for regulator + hat

11. Easier to use the '93 Z28 TV cable in applications of an automatic transmission.

12 The LT1 intake cannot be easily modified to fit Vortec heads. Lots of welding would be required.

13. You cannot re-use the stock TPI fuel rail or fuel pressure regulator. Only the LT1 style fuel rail can be used (1994-97).

14. LT4 intake may be used with Vortec/Fastburn type heads, but needs light port matching and is big $$$.

15. Weiand remote T-stats #'s7134P (polished) and 7134 (unpolished) are recommended. Offenhauser also offers one (no part # has been submitted yet)

16. You can use the stock throttle body

17. If you are good with a grinder you can get the cruise control linkage cable to sit correctly in the 93 LT1 throttle bracket, but you will have shim the linkage somewhat.
Use rtv on the distributor hold down bolt or you will have an oil leak.

18. LT1's and LT4's utilize the same ('94-'97) fuel rails (my own submission)

That's cool. It was getting abit messy.

#4 had been cleared up in my post. It will fit but just barely.

the one you have in #17 about RTV on the dist. hold down bolt should be it's own separate number

someone needed to also lenthen the IAC and TPS.(Haven't heard other say this but it should be noted that this MAY need to be done)

Napa sells a shorter hose fitting for those using front coolant passages which will allow for more clearance for the TB

John has recently switched to putting the coolant fitting in the rear of the intake. (I sent him an email asking for details about this) This would solve the problem of #2

I'd still like to make another post and move a few things around etc. Still like to give it until this weekend so that the list is complete when it goes up. I'd like the thread to be closed when it goes sticky so that it doesn't get messy like the other one.
Cool?

The Offenhauser part number is 5308. It is the same as the Weiand unit but not available in polished form which are getting hard to come by since the people that polished for Weiand broke the contract.
the Offenhauser housing is cheaper also in price, not quality.

The Felpro 1204 has metal seal offs molded into the gaskets to block the EGR ports, thus, no mod required to intake. The LT1 intake also sits about 1 1/4 inch farther forward than the TPI. If mounted on a pre-electric cooling fans engine and using a K&N type filter. You will have to move the mechanical fan forward to clear filter. I should have mine completed next week. Will advise the outcome.

Can you really trust the stiffness of a gasket to keep the EGR port sealed? I haven't see how much of the EGR port the LT1 intake clears, but if it isn't at least 3/4 or more of the way over it, i don't think i'd trust just the gasket.

The parts list right from my web site. The Offenhauser remote t-stat housing is available from Summit Racing or Jegs. Be advised that you will have to open up the small hole and tap it for the CTS sensor. The housings I sell already have this done for you.

The housing is pretty much a shelf item at most Pep Boys stores.

I have never seen it there. You sure you're not thinking about something else?

3) Port height is roughly the same as a 1205 gasket, but the port isn't as wide. See avatar for pic before port matching to the 1205.
