Would the CC305 cam work well with ported L98 Al. Heads and LT1?
I am thinking about putting a 355 combo together. I will be using an LT1 intake, and I want to use the ZZ4/3 L98 Aluminum Vette Heads with a CC305 cam.
Will this cam work well with the L98 Al. heads?
I believe the cam is 220/230 .544 .544 w/ 1.6 RR on 114LSA.
LT1 guys make good numbers with it, would I?
Thanks
Mike

Thanks Chris. I know what the LT1 cars run with it. I am wondering if anyone knows if this cam is a good match for these heads?
Chris, how long till you get it running? I am eager to know how it turns out. Good Luck.

Wish I could help. But I'm in the same boat you are. I went w/ the CC306 230/244 and .544/.576 w/ 1.6rr. We'll see I guess. Whenever I can get it to idle.

Well maybe he's doing like I did and is getting his shortblock where he wants it first. Then add heads and/or intake to it to complete it. I know my car isn't setup right yet, but it runs surprisingly well with the hotcam and relatively stock TPI. Just m $.02
*As for the topic at hand... YES I think the vette heads and a cam such as the cc305 or c306 would work well. Especially with a LT1 intake or other TPI goodies. Lata

My bad, I see you're planning on a LT1 intake as well. If you're doing this:
355ci
ported vette heads
LT1 intake
& other bolt-ons (headers, exhaust, etc)
and proper tuning.... I'd say ditch that wimpy cc305 and go for the cc306! You'll like it alot more with those heads/intake. Especially with gears and/or a big stall! Later!

I want ported L98's, cc305, LT1 intake...
I have a T-56 and 4.10's going in next month.
There is no way I can use the CC306, I live in NJ and have to pass emissions.

I see. The cc306 would still be nice. I think thats what I'm gonna go to in the future.... lt1 intake, AL heads, and maybe cam swap. Don't know though. Good luck with it. Whats your car run right now? mid-13's???

I wish I could run mid 13's
The best run I ever had was 13.9@99 with a 1.99 60ft. I cant ever hook up. My tranny isnt in the best shape so that is why I am swapping in the T56. Hopefully it will be a little faster with that alone.
Yeah in an ideal world I would love to have big heads with a big cam like the CC306 but I live in NJ. This state is tough on the emissions.

Ok, I bought an LT1 intake and it kept leaking so I'm scratching that and getting a HSR. The cam is in but still not idling, its been raining like crazy and I haven't had a chance to work on it. It will run w/ the stock TPI but the idle likes to die out.
I've run a 13.4 @ 103.XXmph on motor and a 12.45 @ 109.XXmph w/ a 100 shot. It doesn't look like I'll get a run in this season w/ the cam in. Some people say that w/ the LT1 and the CC306 I should run low 12's high 11's on motor. I find that hard to believe. I'm not sure how fast I'm going to be untill I get a time slip.
It dyno'd w/ the old setup 267/356 motor and 361/551 on the 100 shot. After I get the HSR installed I figure 12's on motor and 11's spraying isn't out of the question. So then I'll get the cage and finally buy my own helmet and a fire jacket. $$$$$$ then I might finally paint my hood.
After I get legal at the track then I'll save up for some AFR's. But that will be way down the line.

Your LT1 intake kept leaking?? Where at? Oil or water? You were using it with the vette/ZZ4 heads? How did you like it otherwise?? Just curious. THX!

THe cc305 is very similiar to the to the Hot Cam. With the 114 LSA of the cc305 you will have a slightly smoother idle than the hot cams 112 LSA, but the 220 intake duration is still going to be very noticable.
Depending on how you feel about the idle of the car I would definately go with the Hot Cam instead, only after you port the L98 aluminum heads and change the springs to handle the higher lift. With the LT1 intake, hot cam and mildly ported heads you should expect anywhere between 300-340 RWHP (depending on the amount of port work to the heads and exhaust setup).
If you have no intentions of porting the heads, you have to upgrade the springs and get the smaller cc304 or crane227 which would give you decent results with the LT1 intake. I would not recommend the cc305 on stock L98 heads.

Why not run the stock L98 heads with cc305? I'm using stock heads except for the addition of TPIS zz9 springs. It works fine! I'm also using intake style retainers on all the springs though too. Extra clearance that way. Just what my machine shop said to do!

Well I was planning on porting them if I got them obviously. I know that stock they cant handle the CC305 range. How much porting needs to be done to get them to flow good enough to put down decent numbers?
If I have to put another $500 into them in porting then I will just go aftermarket and get AFR's or something.

It would leak coolant into the lifter valley. I almost fried the bearings. I tried 3 different gaskets, w/ no luck.
The CC306 is in now. It sounds bad ***. I got it to idle at ~900rpms which isn't too bad considering. The 30# inj. are in but they seem to be hurting me w/ the stock 305 prom, so I'm gunna pull those and put the 24# back in. I'll be going to MIR this weekend to run. I don't know if I'll spray or not. I need to figure out how high I want to rev it w/ the stock TPI. We'll see.
I let you guys know if I go slower or faster.

Thats weird about the LT1 intake. WOnder why it was leaking! Have you talked to John Millican about it?? Just curious, b/c I'm wanting to run one this winter maybe and I know alot of ppl have run them without problems.
*Let us know how it runs this weekend. I'm curious!
