Possible fuel pump problems

A few days ago I left lower fuel than usual, usually when it gets 1/4 tank I will fill it up. I noticed while it was low on fuel I heard the fuel pump sounded weird. I know that low fuel will damage the fuel pump, but this is the first time I let the fuel go that low. Well after I filled it up a few days later while driving and had to suddenly stop, then I noticed the same sound from the fuel pump when fuel was low.

Are these F bodys known to fuel pump problems? I heard its a pain-in-the-but to change and the complete exaust has to be droped. I also have my cats out so its one piece from the manifold on.

I have had a lot of fuel pump problems with mine. I had a bad connection at the fuel pump and it would quit on me all the time. I could take the pump out and put it back in in less than 5 minutes, and it would work again for a day. Anyway, I replaced my fuel pump and it has alwase been pretty loud. I can hear it buzzing in the tank. But if you ever want an esier way to take out the pump, cut a hole in your trunk, it does not take much time. The guy who owned mine before cut a hole right above the pump and this is why I can fix it in 5 minutes. Just be carefull not to cut the tank.

Replaced fuel pump on my old '92 Z28 5.7L and it was a P.I.T.A., however thats how it goes. The only way to do it is dropping your exhaust and also dropping the rearend as far as it will go, removing the fuel tank, be careful with fuel neck, and replace fuel pump and strainer. this whole process takes about 4-6 hours and a couple 12 packs. Some people will tell you to cut out the section in the back hatch compartment just above the fuel tank. Don't do this, it is called cheesedicking. Remember to empty fuel tank prior to removal.

If I remove the exaust do I still have to drop the rear end?
