Factory MAF, filters and filter box restricting?
How restricting is the factory MAF, filter and filter box. I am looking into trying something different then the factory system on a 89' Iroc. There has been many discussions on the MAF sensor, but I'm really curious about the rest of the intake track.

For a 406 the sensor itself is going to be pretty restrictive, as will the intake. You can remove the splash guards under the filters and get some better filters from K&N, and also cut the plastic underneat and rig up a ram air setup with the fog lights. The best idea would probably be to switch over to speed density and just get rid of the MAF.

Thanks, I've opened up under the filters and am running K&N filters. I just thought by the way the filter lid is narrowed down it may be somewhat of a restriction but it is rather wide.
For anyone that has done the switch to speed density is it costly and how time consuming? Just want to know what I would be getting into.

Dyno your car and have somebody watch your plastic intake tract. 2 friends have had their's collapse and cut off air at high rpm's. They both have minirams. I can't remember what they did to fix it, I think they reinforced it with some aluminum sheet metal to strengthen it up.
