Fuel Injectors - When to keep em, when to toss em

I thought that I would post this to save every one who falls into this category a little time.

So you have an 89 to 92 F-Body and you have decided that you want your injectors cleaned and flow matched. Well you might as well throw them away.
The fact is, if your injectors have not failed (either one or a couple) they will eventually. Seems that in the effort to be really great engineers, the guys that designed the Multech type injectors decided that the best way to keep the solenoid coil cool was to have the fuel do all the work.
What the engineers did not take into account was the corrosive properties of gasoline. In their efforts to find a trick way to cool the coil they instead found a way to destroy the protective coating on the coil.

So if you were all gung ho to get your injectors cleaned and flow matched, dont waste your time or money.

Now there is a fix. You can buy new one's or find a set of used ones off of either an 86 to 88 Vette or 87 to 88 F Body. You are going to want part number 5235302 or 5235211. These injectors do not have the design flaw that those on 89 to 92 F Bodys have.

Now, how do I know this. Well after a tune up where the car ran ***** out great for one day, it started running like crap. After eliminating spark, air, fuel I started to think that it could be the injectors. Well the smell of fuel at the exhaust was the clue. It was the injectors.

I was speaking with Rich @ Cruzin Performance about getting my injectors cleaned and flow matched because the car was running horribly and the injectors where the only possible source of the problem and his first question to me was, 'What year is your car?'. Well when I told him it was a 92 he informed me about the little design flaw.
He also let me know that he gets calls and emails every week about getting injectors cleaned for 89 to 92 F Body.

Just a little FYI.

Thanks for that info. I'm getting a tune up this weekend so I'll watch out for that.

Yea, I have those injectors on my 89... blech. Nice to know that once they're toast I can just pitch them with no qualms.

This is why people here keep recommending Rich. He's a real good guy.

I know the injectors you're talking about...half of the casing is grey, the other half is black. Multec ball-type injectors. They were supposed to save the world, being more resistant to clogging than Bosch designed pintle-type ones. No thankya.

On the other hand, the new Multec-II injectors found in LS1 engines seem nice. Geometry is compatible with SVO injectors, connectors are the same, and they popped right in when I did my Stealth Ram install. They run at 58psi all day long on LS1 engines so high op pressure isn't a problem.

Twizted, Those are from a 1987 or 1988 and are the good ones but part number 5235301 is for a 305 not a 350. The injectors for a 350 are part number 5235302.

Twisted,
88 is correct. Look at my orignal post. I listed the part numbers for a 350. Unfortunately I failed to mention that those numbers were for 350 engines. Sorry.
