There is a connector to the right of your steering wheel, under the dash and it starts with A on the top row reading from right to left, the pin next to it is B. This is in most service manuals. Using a paper clip to short these two terminals puts ecm in specific modes. One of these modes will back out the IAC completely. After that has been done, you can disconnect the connector from the IAC. Then you can start the car and set minimum idle at 450 rpm in drive on an automatic.
This way really sucks but it is a close as you can get to the text book procedure. It sucks because my car simply stalls.
SO the better way is to use diacom software and just run you car. The software runs on a laptop and this connects to that same connector giving you data of what your computer does with the IAC. at 800 rpm or so I have been told that the ideal setting for IAC step counts is around 30. This can be done by turning the allen screw that holds the throttlebody plates open to a small extent.
