12.90 @ 114.4 Mph!!!

Just got back from G-Teching the IROC. My mods are in the sig. and on my webpage. These times are at around 82 degrees F and 50% humidity. Car was running for about 30-45 mins since I had to stop at a friend's for the G-Tech and then I was looking for a good spot to do the runs. Coolant temp is usually just above 160 degrees. Traction was a MAJOR issue, even w/ the BFG Drag Radials at 20 psi. I put the shifter in 2nd and let the tranny auto shift 1-2, I then shifted 2-3 at 6250 rpm. I have an ARAP .bin on my 1st custom PROM w/ the only change being a 750 rpm idle, other than this, ZERO tuning. Results:

1st run: 13.3 @ 111.1-spun the tires pretty bad
2nd run: 12.90 @ 114.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3rd run: 13.45 @ 110.2-spun the tires bad again

The 12.90 @ 114.4 run was by far my best launch and my 2-3 shift was perfect at 6250 rpm, which I think is kind of high but seems to be working. I hope to make it to Milan Dragway soon for some track times.

Not too shabby for small headers. As i'm sure you know, the g-tech is probably adding ~4mph to what the track would say, but 110mph in summer heat with no tuning is still nothing to shake a stick at.

The real question is, how long till you move up to a cam that can take advantage of those heads, big headers and a bigger stall to go for 11s

I know the G-Tech is high on MPH and about .1 off the ET's. Still, 106-110 is a good point to start tuning

I have no plans to change anything on my combo, except maybe to send the Vigilante back for a 3000 stall (although I can't even hookup w/ a 2200 stall) and MAYBE get some 1.6 roller rockers and the upgraded AFR springs. After the tuning gets dialed in, I will add a 150 shot of nitrous though, already have the kit.

As far as headers, I'd love to get some 1 3/4" Hooker Super Comp's w/ a 4" Mufflex cat back, I just don't think the HP gain would be worth the money at this point. Those headers w/ Jet Hot and a custom Y-pipe and 4" mufflex is a good chunk of money.

Congrats! Just wait until you get it "dialed" in! I dropped a full .7 (seven tenths!) of a second with just these changes.

Went from 20psi on my BFG drag radials to 14.5psi of air pressure.
Removed the front sway bar
Several major timing changes in the PROM

I also quit doing huge burnouts on my drag radials and learned to roll into the throttle a lot better, (which is where quite a bit of my decrease in time came from). If I heated them up too much I'd go up in smoke off the line. I'll probably run 12.5psi next time out even though the literature that came with them said on a heavy vehicle not to go that low. My 60' time went from 2.22 to 1.97 in a pickup with stock rear suspension with air shock at 50psi.

These times were at the track. I have a G-Tech and I believe it lies to me! Since the track is 1/8 mile and G-Tech show me 1/4 I can't compare them! I'd like to believe the G-Tech though.

Keep us posted!

I don't really trust it either. I know it's not terribly accurate, especially the MPH, but it's all I have until I can make it to the track. Trust me, when I get track times, they'll be posted.

BuckeyeROC we have similar engines . . . do you burn your own chips? Any advice or recommendations? The times sound pretty damned good and it's crazy how well the SR breathes compared to a stock TPI system. Keep tweaking and keep us posted!

Re: 12.90 @ 114.4 Mph!!!

Congrats. That is a great start. My first day back to the track with my Corvette also running a superram / 219 combo net'd a 12.9xx @ 109.66. This was without tuning, header leaks, no traction, and a cold O2 sensor.

I have the hooker 1 3/4" headers and a standard tranny. Sounds like you are starting off better than I am with that MPH and a higher race weight.

One thing you may want to try is shifting lower. The 219/superram makes peak power normally around 5400 RPM. I am shifting at 5800 right now, but have built the valvetrain for more. The stock lowerend has 173.5k miles on it, so I don't want to go too high for insurance.

Get to the track!!

I justed started burning chips, I've done 1 so far. What I have now is the ARAP .bin w/ a 750 rpm idle. I need to hookup the Moates software and see what the computer is seeing. I also do not have the speedo hooked up right now so I'm getting a code 24, which is the VSS code. This also means the Vigilante is not locking up.

Scorp, that is a great start. Even if I'm running 106 MPH for real, it's an excellent start. GofasterFirebird and TPIGuy put a lot of my stuff together, and I have learned A LOT from both of them. I want to thank them for all their time and hard work. Now for the fun part of tuning and getting to beat on the car a lot!

Wow that is very nice, I wish I had those heads, my current ones are killing my new 383.. I need to borrow a g-tech from a friend and see what I can come up with. I noticed that your from Ohio?

I'm running the same 219/superram combo, 1.6 rr, with edelbrock 6085(160cc intake!!! pos) heads, on a 10:1 383, 1 3/4 slp headers and borla cat back.

What kind of gears are you running on that motor? I'm running 3.73's, getting ready to put 3.23's in so I can get some traction and stay in the power range longer.

I'm running 3.42's. Those gears should be about right for going down the 1/4 mile when I add the nitrous. Traction is tough to get w/ the 700R4's 3.06 1st gear and the TQ of this combo. With the 383 and SLP headers, you should reach low 12's after changing those heads and doing some tuning. I wanted to do a 383 w/ this combo soooo bad but didn't have the money at the time (I bought the whole engine combo and rearend and suspenson stuff at once).

Great run. I'd say your mph is easily around 110. IMO, you will want to shift around 5800rpms. However, your tach could be off and shifting at the 6200 may actually be closer to the 5800rpm. One thing that puzzles me is the Vigilante 2200. Precision Industries really doesn't make anything less than a 2400 in the "Vigilante" series. If you have a Vigilante converter, I'm thinking it's a 4 pump which will flash to probably 2600 with your modifications. You have a great setup except for the headers. They are definitely holding you back. Get some tuning and drag radials and there is no reason why your car wouldn't run mid 12's!

When I saw the mph and the time in the title I thought, "that's a good time, but with that mph he could be even quicker." Makes sense. If you go to the track I bet you'll be running about 108-109mph, which is good for 12s if you drive fairly well. Post gtech vs track times when you're done, and when you get it tuned.
