TPI acceleration problem
I've got an 87 with 305/TPI 5spd. Normal mods, chip, air foil, cat back system. Also new plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, good jacobs plug wires. The car had been sitting for a couple of years and we decided to put it back on the road. Seemed to run ok for a couple of weeks, but now it developed a "blubering" under accelleration. Idles good and runs and cruies just fine. Problem is the blubering under accelleration at about 2000 rpm and up. You can floor it and it doesn't go away, but let off it and accelerate slowly and the problems goes away. Funny thing though, it doesn't do this all the time. Maybe 80%. Today I pulled out of UPS's parking lot and easily lit the ties up through the first two gears. Then 1 minute later is blubered when accelerating. One thng I did notice was a lot of rust under the distributor rotor when I replaced the cap and rotor. Looks like a kind of star shaped wheel in there running inside a round housing. Can't remember the names of these off hand, but was told by someone else not to worry too much about his. I'm not comfortable with this advise. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks-Dan

Seems to run better cold than hot. When it warms up is when it starts missing.

You're either looking at an ignition module issue, or an 02 sensor issue.
Module is easiest to check, pull the cap, the two screws for the rotor, then the plugs/scews for the module, pop it out and take it to autozone, they'll test it for free. If its bad then you have your answer, either way they're cheap enough.
As far as the 02 sensor you may want to hook a scan tool up to the car and see how your 02's reading.

Thank you both for replying to my post. I just replaced the 02 sensor for $21.99 at autozone and it seemed to cure the problem completely. Car has 140k on it and the sensor has never been replaced. Used one of the zones "loaner" sockets and had it done in about 5 minutes. Runs great now. Thanks again.-Dan
