HELP!! URGENT!! VSS question

Ok, I have an 88 IROC that used to have a TBI 305, and I converted it to a SD TPI 350. It has a 700R4 and a mechanical cable driven speedometer.

I bought a cable driven 4-pulse VSS from Howell EFI. I hooked it up to the tranny and then hooked the cable into the back of the VSS. The problem is the extra room taken up by the vss pushed the speedo cable so tight against the trans tunnel that it tilts the VSS and broke the cable off inside (this happened twice already).

What should I do? I need a VSS because my car runs like crap without it and I am now getting into burning proms, so this becomes even more important.

Does anyone make a cable driven VSS that takes up less room so I can plug my speedo cable in without any clearance issues?

I know I'm not the only one that's done this swap so what did everyone else do? Thanks, Josiah

Two choices:

1) Some Camaros got two piece speedometer cables; there's a coupling somewhere along the cable (mine sat right under the brake booster). I installed my speed sender there.

This is it right smack in the center of the pic. If you don't happen to have a two-piece cable, you could probably buy one.

2) You can buy a 90° speedometer cable adapter from Stealth Conversions (or Stealth something, or anyone else that sells a speedo cable adapter) to get that kink out of your cable.

Stealth Converions aka Jags That Run, has a dual out 90*. It might work for you. Here's a link http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Spe...eedometer.html. It's item number 6.

Thanks Jza, I just checked and my speedo cable does split. I wish I would of known about this earlier because I broke two of them already.

Cool, glad to hear it.. That's just the way it goes sometimes... you break more eggs than the omelet needs just to learn how to break the eggs.
