Good Track Times?

I went to Virginia Motorsports Park and ran my car in the 1/4.

her times are:

60' - 2.358
1/8 - 10.300
MPH - 69.24
1/4 - 15.978
MPH - 83.30

The engine is a stock 305 TPI with 180,000+ miles on the motor, 700R4 transmission, and 2.73 gears. Go to www.hrhosts.com/slo86ta and under modifications will list everything that I have done to her or replaced.

That seems a little on the slow side. F.Y.I. my 92 cavalier(3.1MPFI, auto) ran a 10.14 in the 1/8 and a 15.79 in the 1/4 at 84 m.p.h Maybe someone a bit more in the knowledge of the 305 can give you more of an idea of what it should run with your mods..

P.S. not trying to tick you off or nothin like that, just wanted to give you something to compare your times to

Your cavalier more than likely has more hp than my TA. They only came stock with 190hp at the crank. Nice run with the Cav though!

Your car should run 15.5-15.9@ 86-88MPH if its stock. The 83MPH is a bit down on power, the ET is close.

People are saying that your 305 TPI should run between 85-88mph and that your 83mph is a little low. Now that is true... your 83mph IS a little low. Taking into consideration that you claim "180,000+ miles" on the motor and trans, 83mph is not bad at all.

The way I look at it, the 2.73 is what is really killing your ET.

Other than that... not to bad, all things considered.

id agree that a 83 mph trap speed is a little slow, my 84' LG4 turns 85mph on a good day!. but your E/Ts could be better if you hook, id work on that 2.3 sec 60ft

Next time I head out there, I'm going to try a couple of other things. I had a small miss also and pulled the plug out just to find that it was carbon fouled. I'll also try lowering tire pressure and warming the tires which I also didn't do. That was also my first time ever running at a drag strip and the 2nd run I did that night.

Thanks for the info on working with the 60' times. Any other suggestions that you all might have with getting a better time in a stock TA?

That is around what my car ran stock too. Headers and a cam put me in the very low 9' s in the 1/8 and 8.0 on the NOS

I'd venture you definitely have a real bug of some nature biting you. 15.9 would be a great ET for an 83mph trap speed. However, you will not run a great ET for your MPH with such a bad 60', you'd need like a 2.0 for that to seem reasonable.

In other words, you're definitely losing power to that miss or some detonation or something somewhere past the 300' mark. I doubt it's just the engine's mileage hurting you with the way those numbers line up. IMHO anyway...

UPDATE!

Well, I finally got ahold of my brother camera and found out that it doesn't take really good closeup pics. I decided to set the sparkplug on the scanner and it actually came out pretty decent!
here's a picture of the spark plug from the 8th cylinder. How many 10th's of a second do you think this would cost?

no.. it's just that one.. the valve guide has gone bad on the 8th cylinder and tend to leak oil.

Hey my 87 GTA with the 200K mile 305 TPI, auto tranny and 3.23 gears ran a 15.8 at 84mph.
Now with the 100K mile 350 TPI, auto tranny, dual cats, hearders, and the 5.0 chip it runs a 14.8 at 91mph.
