crane cam 2032+ 305
will the 2032 cam work with a 305 TPI. i will be putting a set of mildly ported al vette heads on at the same time. will it be to much cam for 305 with a stock TPI with headers and exhaust?

I don't think it will be too much for stock TPI and headers , but maybe for a stock TC. i put that cam in my 305 5 speed, along with a siamesed base. Seemed to gain a lot of power up top and lost torque below 1500 rpm(engine will begin to buck) i.e. 2nd gear in a parking lot. I have no problems driving my car everyday in stop and go traffic. Anyways when you change the cam, get ready for a custom chip to get the most out of it for power.
I only picked up .2 sec and ~1 mph after adding that cam, 1.6 RR, siamesed base, raising fuel pressure too much(51psi), and underdrive pullies. I also had some serious traction problems due to worn tires and hurt up torque arm bushing. I think you will be happy with that cam assuming you're not set on keeping the TPI truck like torque.
I also already had headers and a SLP chip. 14.6 @ 95-96 before cam and other stuff.

3.42 10 bolt, I picked up .3 sec and ~3 mph in 1/8 mile, plus missed 1-2 shift/hit rev limiter(5500) (on that run/didn't lose much time) Funny seems like it doesn't run as hard on the top end by comparing timeslips.
Only had 2 runs with this setup. I think it would help greatly from a custom chip considering that there was a .7 sec and 6 mph difference between the stock chip and the SLP chip meant for a stock cam.
I know that e.t. gain pretty much sucked, but I wouldn't consider my car in tune anymore, just stating that a 305 will run fine with that cam. Give me a few weeks and I'll get another run in with less fuel pressure and maybe more or less timing. I'm sure it will run better. It's amazing the SOTP difference compared to 1/4 mile times though, no more flat spot at 4800 rpms anymore, revs to 5500(rev limiter in SLP chip) in 1-3 gears with ease.

Had it on 305TPI/T5 WC, 3.42:1 posi, Stock base, Accel runners, ported plenum, heads, Edelbr. TES, Dynomax 3", MSD 6AL, Haltech ECU, !cat, !air, airfoil, 48mm TB, etc.
Got 262,6 hp@4680rpm and 466,6Nm@3420rpm = 344,1 lbs-ft. Now running w/ 355TPI, LT4 HC.
Dyno shot:

I'm using cm 104224 with my set-up. The difference is amazing, but like Beast5spdGTA said, a custom chip will make a huge difference. I'm still using the stock chip at the moment Getting a custom one in the summer hopefully If you are using it with an auto you will need a higher stall converter. I'm happy with my set-up even with my crappy chip. It will spin through the whole of first no matter what you do, spin in the upshift into second and spin in the low end of second. I'm running 3.23 gears.

3.23 gears, no posi, and it currently has the stock manifolds on it. SLP 1 3/4 inch headers are off getting ceramic coated.
Would love to get you a G-Tech time but it's still raining :sillylol: It's pissing me off. The G-Tech runs were done on the same streatch of road to keep things as equal as possible.
You will like the cam I have, but I think you will need a new converter. But you'll like that too Pulls really well and makes a hell of a noise.
Any other questions just hollar

The whole thing feels amazing. I thought I was going to loose a lot of low end torque, and I probably have, but the converter helps unbelievably in that area. I can start the wheels (wheel? :silylol: ) spinning with only about 1/3 throttle. It's impossible at times to get if off the line. But so impressive at others when you nail it at 30, kick it into 1st and leave a line with a puff of smoke then upshift into 2nd and leave some more line. Now that's fun! Especially when someones out picking a race with you.

Also, when I get my headers on I'll probably loose a lottle low end torque too. But to be honest that may not be a bad thing, and I'm not really worrying about it.
