Insurance companies are sooooo full of shiet

Okay here's my little story...

I bought my car summer of 2002... drove it till winter 2002/2003, put it away... it was only $28 a month for insurance of fire and theft...

put insurance back on summer 2003... pulled it winter 2003/2004...

we called and asked for the same thing as last year. just fire and theft...

ok... we get our bills in the mail today... they only took off $40 a month for all the winter months... we were paying about $200 a month.

we called and asked what the ****... they're like "we no longer offer just fire and theft..."... we're like "why not? car is in storage" they are like "your car might roll or be hit, etc."...

anyhow... they're saying that this new policy went in effect march 2002... I BOUGHT MY CAR JULY 2002! so i'm currently bitching with them on the phone and they said i have to talk to the customer relations manager on monday...

what a crock of **** eh?

Looks like the insurance companies are turning it up another notch. Don't feel too bad. They won't stop here.

a guy i work with had the insurance company he deals with tell him the same thing, his is on a 1966 gto, he basically said to them fine but if they expected to keep the insurance for his other 2 trucks, his boat, his motor home, and his house, they had better come up with a way to make it worth his wwhile for the car, or they could take their insurance and shove it. It worked for him for 1 year and now if he wants to insure the car he has to have an approved appraisel done. Basically what they have done to him is to make him get a value on his car set in stone, and then they will say that the amount that he paid before was not enough to cover the value of his car. there for they can charge him more

Yeah, don't feel bad. I was shopping around for insurance a while ago. I had been paying about $100/month full coverage. Not bad. Pretty decent at $1,200/year for a 23 year old.

I shopped around and tried to get better. I had emails and phone calls with insurance agents telling me that paying out between $190 and $210 per month was a DEAL, and that I'd be be saving 15% on my insrance! I was like WTF? Why is it so high?

They got upset when I bitched them out. After I was done with one company he said, "We just sell the insurance, the companies set the prices. It sounds like you are happy where you are..."

Bastards. But some bastard in a riced out civic will have cheaper insurance than my car. But he's probably more of a risk on the highway than my car is!

Yeah same here.

When I first started driving, they said 23 and I'd be eligable for a reduction if I kept a clean record.

Done. Hit 22, then they say the age is now 25.

Well, recently my dad went about looking for a new car and asked them. For me to get any rate reduction for a clean record, I must keep a clean record now until 29!!! So until I'm 29 I'll be paying the same rates as I was when I first started driving at 17!!!

Try this, when I still had insurance with State Farm, I asked what their definition of a sports car was. Their answer was anything that only two doors. I then asked them if a VW Beetle was considered a sports car or if a pick-up truck or a two door sedan was. They said no, why? I said, well they all only have two doors and according to your definition of a sports car. That's what they are. Needless to say, I no longer have insurance with State Farm.

Same with us, our 1996 Bonivile SE (Standard Edition) beleive it or not is $700 a year more then our 1996 Camaro Ram Air 6-Speed, like what the hell????? For the two of us, The Boniville is $2498 a year and the Camaro is $1804

When I asked my broker they said the Bonivile is a 4 door sedan and the Camaro is a 2 door sedan and the 4 door has a higher liability risk thus makeing it more $, but $700????? U'd think with the 4 door being a v6 and the Camaro a v8 it'd be the opposite.

See- this is everyone's first mistake- assuming insurers actually look at anything realistic or based in fact. They generally don't. I am still convinced (and have been for some time) that no insurer in Ontario takes vehicle "population" into account when setting rates- i.e. by their statistics, let's say 1996 Bonnevilles are in 10 times the number of accidents that 1996 Camaros are. This would make perfect sense if there are 10 times the number of Bonnevilles on Ontario roads than there are Camaros- but an insurer won't take this into account because then they can't say that a relatively common Bonneville, per vehicle on the road, is no more likely to be in an accident than a Camaro. However, there are bound to be alot more Bonnevilles on the roads than Camaros and thus a larger number of people to overcharge on their premiums. I am firmly in the belief that the "actuaries" that work at insurers spend virtually no time on analyzing car statistics in a full and complete manner- they seem pick a number out of the air and call it appropriate and spend all their time working on life insurance numbers (or maybe playing pocketpool all day).
