Drive-in Meet - June 1st
I am making the arrangements for a drive-in night with the TFbM club and would really like to see you guys show up too to represent the Third Gen community. Here a snip of the post that I sent to the TFbM mailing list:
Well guys, the weather is finally starting to show a bit of promise. And what better way to celebrate this then to have a good ole F-Body Drive-in Meet. Please see the details below and if you're interested please let me know.
Date: Saturday, June 1st, 2002
Time: Premeet starts at 6:00 - 6:30PM
Drive-in meet starts just before sundown.
Agenda (the lowdown): The premeet will start in the Canadian Tire parking lot (see details below). Last year they used to have a classic car cruise night every Saturday night in this parking lot so I'm hoping it will still be going on this year. Otherwise, as a last resort we can always stand around and talk to each other ;-) And just as an FYI, there are also restaurants and a Tim Hortons in the area. Then at approximately 8:00, we will depart for the Five Drive-in Theatre, which is just down the road from there (again...see details below). If you prefer to skip the pre-meet and go straight to the drive in than that's cool. The price for the drive-in is $10 per person and includes 2 movies. The Five Drive-in has three screens with 2 different movies playing on each screen. The movies (which screen) that we are going to see will be posted a couple days before the actual meet.
Premeet Location: Canadian Tire parking lot at the corner of Highway 5 (Dundas St.) and Vega Blvd in Oakville. Cut and paste this link for the map - http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...xZyPuVOus6WoyS
Drive-in Location: On 9th Line just south of Highway 5 (Dundas St.) in Oakville, near the off ramp for the 403. Cut and paste this link for the map - http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...tZOzf9pw%3d%3d

Damn, that would be cool, but unfortunately I'll have my car up in Peterborough for a golf/p!$$up weekend,
otherwise I would be there. My kids would like it too,if the right movies are playing.

sounds like fun
I think I will try to make this drive-in. I'll have to get a sitter for the kids and bring my wife -- she loves summer evening drives with the roofs off. She also is a 3rd gen fan (having had three in the family by now) and would enjoy seeing more of them.
I don't think I've ever watched movies at a drive-in in a 3rd gen with the roofs off. That ought to be a unique experience ?
Can you post a reminder the week before to remind us ?
RP.

Convince the tfbm guys to post things like this on their main page. Most people I've talked to in the club don't subscribe to the mailing list- I tried it for about a week last year and finally got tired of 50 emails about "bobs sore foot" type of stuff, and 500 more randomly selected topics.
-Those guys really need a proper bulletin board.

sunday nights at the "StarLite" Drive-In in Shipka (off 81 hwy, just outside Grand Bend) are car load nights. 10 bucks for as many people as you can fit in. we also take a pick up full of people, couchs, and mattresses. they let you bring in your owner beer and what you want. popcorn refills are 25 cents (for a big bucket).

Great response guys! I look forward to seeing everyone there. If you can make it, no worries, I'm sure we'll have another one sometime through out the summer.
Eric - I totally agree and I wanted it put on the Events page for the website, but because it's not an official TFbM event there's insurance issues/politics/blah blah blah. I'm gonna see what I can do to make it more known though to the members.

Wheres Oakville form Ottawa? Before or after Toronto.
I'd think of heading down for the weekend just to hook up with all you guys, I'm sure Acceldz would come too.
Just trying to see how far of a drive it would be and is there any cheap motels?
Dave

It's west of Toronto...quite the far drive from Ottawa. I've only got a 1 bedroom appartment right now, otherwise I would offer to give you shelter for the night. I'll see what I can dig up though if you're serious about coming down.

tfbm Insurance Issues??? WTF? What a load of chit. It's obviously politics or finance (i.e. $$$ for web space).
"Insurance" is the modern excuse for everything when people just don't want to do it...

Trust me Eric, it is actually a legitimate issue. There's some background on it, but I'm not gonna get into it on here. If you email me I can give you more specifics if you like. Anyway, I've appealed to Thom and he said they are working on it and took down my info in case they come up with a resolution. Unfortunately for now, it will have to continue the way it is.

I talked to my wife and she thought the drive in sounded good! The only catch is that its only a few days before we fly out for vacation and we may be finalizing the some details. I will try to make it.

I don't know if palric would want to take his Formula there, it'll get real dusty/ I know I am going to hit the closest coin wash after the movie, so I can spray all the dust off.

You should invest in one of those car dusters. I picked up one the other day at K-W Surplus for $5.95. It looks just like the California Car Duster, it even has a bag for it. 86IROKZ got one a few weeks ago and he said it works, especially for black cars.

Nathan, buddy, relax about the dust. Drive your baby home, most of the dust will fly off with the trip back on the highway to Niagara, and then give her a good wash on Sunday. The dust won't do it any harm. I do agree though that you don't want to use the Cali duster after the drive-in as the dust will be a little too heavy for that.

So does the dust settle once the movies have begun ?

Yes it does work, I especially like it because I have a black interior which is a pain in my nuts. It always looks dirty, so instead of always cleaning it, a simple vacuum and dusting with a swiffer makes it look clean again

Is this invite-only or can any third gen guy come along?
Damn, figures it would be the day of my brother's stag-and-doe. I'll be stuck there all day long...
I pass that Canadian Tire twice every day too on my way to Burlington and back.
