i hate vtechs
i was driving down the road with a friend when i look in a mirror and see a type r behind me so i think i can take him, he starts to come around me, i drop it down to second (doing 50) and punch it he gains on me i look down again and my speedo is buried, and he is already by me, then his buddy in a civic starts over in the other lane, keeping up with me and just inches on me, when i say, ah it isnt worth a ticket and let off, i saw what driveway they pulled in and stopped to talk to them, they both had vtechs, with 5 speeds, and they both had exhaust and intake mods, i think i would of ran side by side with the civic, but the type r killed me, i have a 82, 305, mild cam, 10-1 comp, summit polished manifold, 500cfm 4 v a 48000 volt coil, 8mm wires, and 3" catback no cat, th 350, and 2.73 gears. my car is no slouch it will run mid to high 14's, how in the hell are these 4 cyls running that good, what could i do to my car to take them? thanks

Get some headers I didn't see that in your mods, first. Then get some 3:42s and a higher stall TC and you'll be in the high 13s most likely.

i was thinking of a flex fan then a ignition module, then headers, right now i have a 1800 stall, i have a 350 in the garage, but i need to get it align bored and stuff, and it would have the top stuff from the 305 and 9-3.1 comp, and 202 heads, would that give me anything over what i have? thanks

Power to weight and also it's all a matter of who's in their powerband.
Also, screw the flex fan...just fab up an electric fan setup from the junk yard. It's cheaper and frees up more horsepower.

ya forget the flex fan it's not worth the money. My friend got an electric fan out of a buick for his turbo 740 volvo and it definitly freed up some ponies for him. And cost him $15..gotta love it

I can't believe you got all those mods without headers, get those first, that will really wake up the car. What's the powerband on your cam, cause shifting into 2nd might have pushed you out of your powerband.
OH, and how do you like the Summit Polished Intake, I got it for XMAS and was going to put it on when I do a cam swap but I think my brother's going to buy it, I really want the Performer EPS.

don't put 350 heads on your car, they likely have 64cc or 76cc combustion chambers and you will lose a bunch of compression. Put a 3.73 gear in there too, and as said, headers and y pipe.

ya putting intake mods like that on a car and leaving stock manifolds is like trying to run a marathon breathing through a drinking straw.

i wasnt going to put 350 heads on it, i have a 350 i can do that with, yeah electric fan sounds good, but headers are like 300 dollars, that i dont have everything else was like 100 to 200 dollars at a time thats why i do want to get some though, i like the summit cm it performs good it likes the high rpms, the powerband of the cam is idle to 5500 and same with the center manifold, i was way out of my powerband when they climbed on me, my tach was disconnected so i didnt want to overrev it in 1st, i do want steeper gears but i only get 13 mpg now. how do i know if t he electric fan will give me eenough air flow? what about a 750 cfm and headers how much could i expect from that?
thanks
thanks

If you can get your hands on a used TH700R4. It has a steeper 1st to get you out of the hole and overdrive for good gas mileage. If you have a 350 drop it in. A 350 is a much better engine. It should put you in front of those imports.

750cfm is better suited for a worked 302 or 350 chevy. I'd stick with a 650cfm or 700cfm. And why exactly are you building up a 305 when you've got a 350 sitting around?

a type R with intake and exhaust mods would be in the mid-high 14 sec range. if you are running those numbers as well, he shouldnt have killed you. i have to agree with everyone else, you probably went up against one with "naas"

first of all there is nothing wrong with vtec's. second, i think the type r really would walk you because you have a 305. now the civic is a different story. you should have had a look under its hood.

its definatly a type r i dont go the 350 route because i already did and it cost me a months time, no oil pressure when it got hot, now i would have to have the crank align bored and new bearings, plus alot of work, when i had it in, my 305 would of ran right beside it. the only thing i had done to my heads was that they were shaved. i got a multiple spark discharge module from msd from my neighbor, now i have to figure out how to install it, no instructions. any help there? i think with that, headers, and a electric fan ill be fine, the only reason they beat me so bad was because i was n second out of my powerband when they got beside me (i dont shift to 3rd till 95) the civic wouldnt of ran with me if i wouldnt of let off, but 100+ in a 55 would of been a hefty ticket. if it would of been from the line me and the type r would of been a race, he was fu**ing fast, ive raced vettes before, and he made them look bad. when i stopped to talk to them i saw the type r s engine no nos, they wouldnt show me the civics engine, they said "they just bought a 50 hp shot but didnt install it yet". thanksoh yeah and why does everyone dis the 305 its a good running motor, especially when built,

A new lightning has 385hp, so i wouldn't exactly call it a brick on wheels. I agree that you need to do the exaust and electric fan to get a good power increase without going into the motor.

in response to cobrakiller, i havea high voltage coil and high compression so my 305 can handle it, i put the one from my dads boat on it, i noticed significant gains in top end, but it lagged a little on bottom end because it had a vaccume leak, i gave it back the same day for the boat.

I would recommend getting a civic leash so they don't go running off like that in the future... G o d knows there's enough of 'em on the loose... don't need them breading! ROFL
BTW you musta got sprayed on
Oh yeah, when you say Type R, you're referring to an Integra right? 'cause they didn't import any other type R's (not left drivers at least)

i'll tell you what man, i had to drive my sisters car to school today and man does that thing have *****. she has the 2001 acura integra GSR (V-TEC). that car would definatly take my car. when you get those things get around 6-7 grand (rpm) they fly. her car is mostly stock. all i did was put an intake on it. i have the best of both worlds. i can take the camaro when i feel the need for American muscle or i can take the integra when i feel the nice to be ricy(being how i do all the work on it for her).

well when you hit around 5800, VTEC kicks in. so that is why it would fly. i love it when i hit VTEC, the way the engine screams and you get a boost of speed. and the gsr only has 170 hp, just think about the type s with 30 more

LOL @ that.
What do you want us to say about VTEC?? We don't need it, we have ci. and TQ. VTEC doesn't make a great enough difference to beat a V8, and I don't mean the low performance 1's that were meant for emmisions and got held back by economy in the later 70's and early 80's.

and why exactly are you comparing a 4 cylinder to a v8? they are in two different classes. now what would happen if they made a 4 cylinder camaro or firebird? i didn't want you to say anything about VTEC, my comment was directed to RMK.

LOL CFK
You said, "i still have not heard one valid negative remark about VTEC." It wasn't directed to any1 so I can/will comment on it. There was a 4 cyl. available in the F-Body 82-85 and back then it was making 92HP@4000 and 134TQ@2800. Pontiac modded 1 and got it to run 13.2 with a top speed of 150MPH, N/A.
