Me vs. 98 Talon TSI AWD
I got a 1985 iroc with a punched out 355, i am figuring between 330 and 350 hp. See my mods in my sig.
My friend has a 1998 talon tsi awd with an automatic with a air intake blow off valve and exhaust.
Will he beat me of wut??
Stock he has 210 hp stock, the blow off valve exhaust and intake should add a fair bit to it (15-20 hp)????
Who will win????

Even with 5 speeds, the '98 talons werent the best performers because of their wieght...I think around 14.9-15.2 for the 5 speed. I have no idea what an auto would run, but I'd guess much slower. Even with the mods I'll bet you can destroy him.
You win!

You've got him, no question. Even if he has a few more mods than he tells you, he's not gonna run with you unless he really ups the boost. And unless he's running higher boost pressure, there wasn't much point in getting an aftermarket BOV. 85transamtpi's numbers were correct, for a 5 speed, and since he has an auto... ok you get the idea. You're gonna rip him.

the only mods helping him really are the intake and exhaust..the blow off valve is just for the noise for the most part. One dead talon.

Well, on this car probably, but if he had the boost upped more than a couple PSI I've heard that 2nd gen DSM BOVs leak really bad at raised boost. (just for the record I'm not trying to be a smartass, just trying to contribute something useful)

in the case of a turbo car where the BOV does leak and the aftermarket one does not then yes it would help but not much. BOV is for the fancy noise in most cases.

Be careful. If the guy knows how to drive, it can be a lot different. A AWD Talon lauinched at high rpm will smoke you off the line, and youll be catching him the rest of the way. I feel you will blow past him, just dont let off if he launches way ahead.
(I have seen Talons with 1.8 60's, stock) Its the AWD grabbing and getting the light car moving.

Theres a RWD one with a powerglide and slicks on the back that runs 9s. I've got that issue of Turbo and High Tech Performance. I don't care if people look at me funny, performance is performance, and if it runs 9s on a 2.0 its got my attention.
11.9 is seriously no problem for one of these with the right mods. Theres a ton of daily driven ones that'll run 10s with full interior. I've ran the numbers, on a 1st gen DSM with AWD/Turbo, you can get well into the 12's for like $2000 worth of mods and the stock turbo. Theorecically speaking
Seriously though, I've been researching these cars on and off since I was a junior in high school (4 years ago) before the "rice" trend ever even started to appear in my area. And I was very very close to buying a red 92 GSX 5 Speed instead of my car. I won't get into the why/why not, mostly the condition of the cars. But the turbo cars are actually kinda rare in my area. Everyone around here is now just putting cans on their non turbo cars cause its trendy. But with a properly modded AWD DSM you can school people on the streets, and bad.
