Supercharged Civic Si VS Built Trans Am

Well I had heard stories about this stock looking 00 Civic Si that was apparently handing local muscle car racers their asses. Well I ended up seeing the guy at taco bell when I pulled in. He showed me his motor ( Vortech supercharged with an after cooler, header, and some other stuff). The thing sounded awesome from up front. Well we decided to kick them off from a 40 MPH roll on the freeway because he was traction limited. Well after the countdown I dropped mine into first and immediately rev limited at 6400(msd). I hit second gear and he had me by a car. Well once I hooked up in second it was all over I made up the car length and just kept pulling.

My buddy was following in his superrammed' 86 Vette with a 4+3 tranny, he said the civic put 5 cars on him and I put 10 cars on everyone.

Afterwords I complimented the guy on how fast his car was and told him I was very impressed. He was the coolest ***** EVER. And he even said he hated the way imports sound.

Anyone who claims that they like the way imports sound is either full of or brainwashed from watching "The Slow and the Sedentary" too many times.

I'm just looking at your sig, and by the way it sounds, that Civic was at least a mid 14 second car. Not bad for an economy car, but definately not going to hand muscle cars their a$$es. At least he was cool about getting beat though.

you shoulda raced from like 30-35 and you would've beaten him even more. 40's a little fast for 1st gear as you know. good job representing the faithful V8 lovers.

Good kill man

Even though he had a Civic he doesn't seem to be a *****, for three reasons:

1) his car is actually pretty fast (compared to stock)

2) He admits that he doesn't like the import sound

3) No lame-o excuse was given for losing.

Remember, a ***** is the type of driver, not the type of car.

So if that Civic is a low 14 sec car, why did the superramed Vette get 5 car lengths put on it? What other mods does that Vette have? Why is the Vette so slow?

really, why did the vette get its *** handed to it? i know of a turboed and intercooled 2000 civic in my area, and i have run him in my vette. i beat him by 6 car lengths. at the track he was good for 14.4 at 100, which by the mph hes good for high 13s. my vette has the stock intake setup, and im in the mid 13s. does your friend in the vette really suck at driving stick? theres no excuse for his loss.

Well, his vette has the iron corvette heads(not centerbolt valve covers) and the 4+3 transmission. He has stock throttlebody with the superram intake, and a stock base. For some reason the car runs like ****. I think he has some severe intake leaks. I am not exactly sure why his is so slow other than the fact that the intake is limited by the base and the throttle body. How much faster should he be?

The guy in the civic claimed to run a 14.2 at 106 MPH, which means he is cant get traction worth ****. I think with that MPH and from a roll he should be able to spank my friends vette. Considering that the only mod is the superam.

Remember, becuse of the nature of 4 cylinder engines, their trap speed will be higher for a given et. He might be able improve a little, but he won't have as low an et as a V8 or turbo V6 with the same mph.

It runs like **** and so slow b/c with that intake, he needs the manifold and a matched cam as a BARE MINIMUM to see results. He needs to get some good heads as well. The throttle body can wait. If he doesn't already have them (I hope he at least got an exhaust before a SR), some headers and an exhaust, too. He can EASILY be in the low to mid 12's once he gets the setup matched with the SR.

Civic Si

There is a guy at ATCO who races a newer turbo charged civic Si and he runs around 14.0 or 13.9. He has a fast civic, but that doesn't stop him from getting romped by the common 5.0's or the newer F-Bodies. In a street race i would be very suprised if a turbo civic would even compete with a newer F-body...torque + traction is the way to go, not Hp/Lt.

yep, the 85 vettes all had iron heads, and the early 86' cars had them also. late 86 coupes, and all convertibles in 86 had the newer centerbolt aluminum heads.

What's the 4+3 transmission?

its basically a old 4speed manual with a small overdrive unit bolted behind it. the driver could select overdrive in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. So its kinda like a complicated 7speed. GM used them exclusively in the Corvette from 84' - 88'. They were problematic, however, and it was replaced with the 6speed in 89'.
