Best Way to fight a ticket
I was running late for work the other day and got a ticket for doing 62 in a 45 zone. I am going to take it to court. Whats the best way to fight a ticket? I hear most of the times the officer doesn't even show up. But if he does, what then?

When you go to court make sure you have dressed yourself with a tie and slacks and clean cut. Be polite and "Yes your honour, No your honour." Hope the judge offers driving school. Take it if he does. For me personally, it has worked both times I have gone to court, before those two times I had always foolishly paid the fine. Also, between my friends and myself we have never been lucky enough of the Officer not showing up. Don't count on that one.
Been where you were before, I wish you sincere good luck.

#1 Kinda ironic that you got a ticket while trying to get to work faster so that you'd be on time... something to ponder.
#2 Best way to fight a ticket is to not get one in the first place, never tell the officer how fast you were going when he asks you... say " I felt my speed was safe and prudent given the driving conditions"
#3 If you get a speeding ticket (the only kind worth fighting) then you need to request every bit of info possible... there are many books which describe it properly and there have been several posts on exactly what you should do. I understand the need to vent though.
#4 If it is something other than a speeding ticket, always get your day in court... the judge may refrain from giving you points on your license and the minimum fine will probably be incurred... or reduced to a lesser fine. Dress nicely and as said before, show respect to authority... but it probably won't get you off totally.
My own expereince cost me $285 in fines + $75 I lost for taking the day off from work to = $360, however the 5 point penalty was waived.... I suggest that none of you space out as you aproach a stopped school bus right after going through a Highway patrol registration check. I don't miss those anymore!
This was all to my advantage (except for financial losses) since 0 points gave me a clean image 2 days after the hearing when I was pulled over for 69 in a 55... probably preventing a ticket.

do a search in the appreaance board for my thread called "tickets and camaros" Itt has a book and specific info to request to prove the cop 1 knows nothing or can prove he is unqualified to operate the radar gun, they do have to retest/class 2-3 times a year. If his training certif runs out he is no longer "able" to use the gun.

Hmm, thanks for all the replies guys, I had a boss at my old job that got out of TWO 30 mph over tickets that she got on the same day. I asked her how and she said she just took em to court and plead not guilty and the officers didn't show up to disprove her. Right now its a 4 point ticket with an $85 dollar fine (sounds like compared to some states a super cheap fine, thank ***), I'll be satisfied if I can get it dropped to a 2 point ticket, and happy if I can get all the points dropped. I agree that it was ironic that I was trying not to be late for work and I got picked up causing me to be late, I usually go around the speed limit, maybe 5 mph over. Also it was 5 am, and there was no one on the road, so IMO the speed I was going wasn't endangering anyone. But, I don't make the laws, or enforce them. Court is in two weeks, wish me luck.
