Built 87GTA races built 78 Camaro
Well I was asked to race a 78 Camaro with trick flow heads, drag radials, 4.10 gear, and a 460 lift camshaft. I thought for sure I would spank his ***, I mean 2nd gens are heavy as ****, and sure he had drag radials, but could it really be that fast outa the hole?
Well, we lined them up, I was running some 295/60/15's futuras. The finish line was set up exactly one eight mile down, where everyone was watching. After the third light flash we both gunned it and he DESTROYED me out of the hole I am talking two and a half cars out of the hole. Once I hook I pull up on him like a mother ****er but there was not enought track, I managed to get my front end at his rear quarter before I was into third ( race ended before I shifted into third.) Since then I have gained a new respect for traction. FOr some reason almost all cars that race him in that little stretch on the street lose, even cars that pull faster times at the strip. He is just hooked up, geared right, and there isnt enough track to catch him.
Later that night my buddies 86 l98 vette lined up with him also. His vette is stock other than exhaust and a 125 shot of hose. Well needless to say he also got his *** handed to him by about 2 and 1/2 cars. That made me not feel as bad.

Moral of the story: Don't race without traction.
He basically et'd the hell out of you guys with traction, gear, and probably a decent stalling convertor.
I've seen guys at the track run 12.90 at 98 mph and 12.90 at 120 mph with the only difference being gearing, suspension and traction.

why race with street tires? it makes no sense to me to spin tires unless your trying to impress your friends. get some bf drag radials or nitto drags or even better get some et streets or quick time pros. all those tires are dot approved. the 2nd gen camaros hook extremely well with little mods so be carefull.
