STS Power
I posted this on Friday, but I had the "A" word in Subject so they didn't post it, well here it is again. I have a 96 STS Caddy, I never had a street race with it-until now. I lined up against this 98 or newer salted up firebird, it was only a V6 one though. The snow was off the main roads so there was pretty good conditions. When the light hit green my traction control kicked in briefly and I just took off. This guy never came close, I hit my brake around 70 letting him know that this was over. And as usually when I slowed down he still was accelerating to make his car look fast. I must have beat this guy by 5 plus car lengths. It was not even that much fun to beat someone that bad. Just thought I'd share that with all of you. I hope I get more races because I had that car for around 9 months and this is my 1st one. So if any of you are in the Green Bay area and see a 21 year old rollin in a pearl, chrome rimmed Seville STS, lets race, I'm game!!!(No modded 5.7's Please )

I have a 3rd gen also, but since it is the winter it is in storage. So this is my winter vehicle. I figure it was a race so why not. There is a guy who posts with a vette, and that isn't a third gen, now is it.

If youre refering to me, i also own a 84' Z28 that i drive everyday, in addition to my Corvette. It been in my sig for awhile now. I just havent gotten into any races with it, yet, so i havent posted anything about it. I almost raced my friends modded 91' prelude, but my water pump let go right before the race. It should be back onthe road soon. The fact is, ive owned three other 3rd gens, all of them Trans Ams (82', 85', 86').

Car: 1991 Formula (sold)
Hey Jared, I had a 95 STS with a ram air and cat back exhaust
quick car, but not as quick as my current 3rd gen, but it a sweet car. Have you started out of the hole with the shifter in 2nd gear??? the computer increase trans line pressure the result is 2nd gear spin, not a chirp but it flat lays down rubber. (caution must have both hand on the wheel with a grip of death) torque steer a bit#h

Ive raced a few STS's before. Most of the time I dont really know the person next to me wants to race, so I always get taken off the line. This fall I raced a guy in a brand new STS. It still had the sticker in the window. I BARELY beat him. I had maybe a full length on him at about 85mph...and at that speed he was making up ground. These cars would give a LG4/L03 a nice spanking. Too bad most of the guys driving em are 80 years old

I just keep my car in overdrive. I have automatic traction control, it kicks in when ever the wheels spin; I think that sucks. I'm thinking of getting some sticky tires for the summer. My mom has a new one also and it is just as quick, but when I got mine it was kinda slow it took me awhile to get the carbon out. When ever I floored it before the exhaust was a thick black cloud of smoke. Not any more though I took care of that Do any of you know any companies that make CAI or any performance parts? Thanks

STS's are quick for a big car, but I have beaten them comfortably in the truck, and in the GTA.
Still, I would take one if one was given to me.
Cheers

That traction control shuts off when you put the trans in 2nd or 1st, or you may even have a button in the glovebox. You guys see the caddy adds during the superbowl? the new roadster at the end is bada$$. it's based on the corvette chassis. Rumors are flying that engineers are trying to get the LS1/LS6 motors in the CTS and next gen STS...Look out then!

Why would they put the LS1 in there if they can get the northstar to put out 300hp? Id like to see one of those bad boys in a car that weighs less than 3000lbs. But I think I know what youre talking about. If I remember right the catera is really an Opel...which you can get with a LS1 in australia maybe? Someone help me out here, I think Im loosin it

The reason for the LS1 idea is because it is smaller, quieter, and more powerful than the northstar. the northstar has been around since 92 and is a bit dated. a 340 horse LS1 or 405 horse LS6 would be great in the new caddies.
the catera is an opel built in germany and have been fitted with LS1s.
Trying to get cadillac to put an ohv engine into a new car will be quite a chore.

Tom, I put my car in 2nd gear on the way back too school and holy crap do they spin!!! I had to lay off the throttle because she was getting hard to handle. Thanks for the advise guys, I figure without the traction control it'll be better.

hehe, isn't that cool? you should be quicker without the tc, just "pedal" it a bit because too much spinning will slow you down.
