Finally got a c5 under my belt

Ive been itching to put vettes in my kill list just to see how I stack up.Mind you my car is hurt..got some misfire issues going on and heavy stereo in the back but anyway heres the story.

Saturday was the first armdrop event in a small town 2.5 hrs away and it does bring it quite the wide variety of cars down an old airport runway for oldschool racing. No time slips..just line up next to someone and run em.I went in my car and my friend brought his 92 v6 civic hatch. We made our own friendly races against eachother for fun but mostly wanted to watch. The event was from 11-6 and many ppl got a good 20+ runs so it was action packed.Just was the event ended and started the drive home we caught upto a silver c5 vette and a fox stang just cruising along.I assume they left there about 15 mins before us but the stang was in high gear not going much faster to save on fuel and his friend trailed in the vette.I saw them run and figured the vette was fairly stock and the stang lost to it maybe by a car length or so.

My friend in the civic was infront of me and we were fast approaching them ..i came right up on his bumper and honked him to move out the way..I was going for the vette and he knew it lol.He ducked out and I dropped to 4th and pulled up to the vette on my right.he looked over and signaled we need room. Its on...he gets behind me and we pull away from our buddies and begin to wait for some room ahead. Now the guy in the vette seems young and anxious(im only 30 lol) I was about to roll my window down to start setting up a roll speed or gear and say to honk it off. Before I could even get the window half down..He Punches it in 4th! Mother of....so i hit 4th as im about 3/4 car behind now.So began the pull and I creep up and start to pass him at the top of 4th by half car.YES..eat it cheater i though to myself lol.He gives me a thumbs up as we slow down again...now my window is down and I shout out 3rd gear roll.I was about to say on 3..but again..the kid downshifts into 3rd as do i..then hits it.WTF...now we are moving...im cathing him..still in 3rd as he shifts into 4th..now I laugh and wave..upshift and pull an easy car on him and he shuts down.

I never had a chance to run another ls anything to see where i stand.i tried to play with a c6 but my whining alternator seems to be scaring ppl off as if its supercharged lol.I got a chance to talk to the vette owner through facebook from the event forums and he was like bro we that was close..those cars dont move like that.He has longtubes full exhaust and tune made 330whp.Better luck next time

heres a clip of my run at the armdrop event..you can see its not the best for traction lol.spin first half pedal..spun all of 2nd..hook in 3rd and then its already over..all while shifting early.

Re: Finally got a c5 under my belt

I dd it..cam is pretty smooth...very small cam surge around 1200 cruising around at part throttle but its minor.Love the cam..not huge but makes useable power to redline and nice torque curve aswell.

Im still having the tune worked out for finer details and got the second afr that morning.i couldnt get to finish wiring the signal before making the 2hr drive to the event. Its wired now and im logging as much as i can to figure out what is my misfire culprit strictly on #1 and 6.The third spot is for vac/boost gauge but it broke while it was in storage so getting a replacement.

Re: Finally got a c5 under my belt

you are severely down in power.
easily 70rwhp, but closer to 80 imo :/
i think you have something other than a misfire. something losing out that much hp.
do a compression and leakdown test?
370rw is full bolt ons, tune,stock longblock 5.7 ls1 turf thru a m6.
gotta see whats going on. that 6.0 with the mods in ur sig.is down a ton of hp

Re: Finally got a c5 under my belt

down in power yes..but not by that much.i really dont have alot of mods..im not even full bolt ons.its not high comp, still stock manifolds,no head work..just milled, stock head gasket and the 228r cam.i dont really consider the ls6 intake a mod since the truck intake is fairly close to it in flow.all cyl pass leakdown..the block only had 40thou km on it and was mint inside when i disassembled it.

my dyno numbers keep in mind i couldnt make a pull past 6k rpm..my clutch is slipping and my alt dies after 4k during a pull.my cats are pretty clogged from my ls1 the blew oil and i havent changed them yet lol. I can see maybe 20whp off..not 80.70-80 hp more would be stock ls3 topend territory.Your talking 440-450whp lol..thats not happening on stock heads, stock manifolds, small cam imo.

Tsp projected 390rw as did Eps with a similar cam when I was deciding on a cam based on my setup..i dont think its that far off from their suggested power I was heavily told my exhaust and intake piping will kill another 20rw and use a lighter clutch but I already had my ls7 clutch by then.

425rw out of my current ls1 stock longblock.m6/spec 2 clutch.
i do have more mods. but its stock 241 heads and only slightly higher scr than stock on my car. ciz i pulled heads to flycut pistons and milled heads. you have a bigger motor and 243s. ive gotten close to 500rw with a ls6 and ported 243s with a big cam, 11.5:1 on a 375ci 6.0 block. all thru an m6.
my ls1 longblok has 235/238 .615/.618 cam. milled .015 241 heads. new vj and backcut on valves. lt,3in exhaust, fast 90/90 and other common bolt ons for 4th gen.
imo ur car is down alot of hp with the heads u have. for that 6.0. ur exhaust.is no doubt choking it. and the cam is kinda small. tune is prolly off.
lotta mods for 370rw thru a6.0 with m6. just saying

Re: Finally got a c5 under my belt

even choked..still a blast to drive lol.plus you know there is still much more potential and every small upgrade will only make it faster.im not harping on my numbers..the car rolls out..my main concerns are more with making it hook up better for lower et's to match my trap speeds.

and your 6.0 brando is one very stock looking deceiver lol
