killed a coyote

First night with car since a few motor changes. On my way to the car wash and got a shiny new coyote mustang sitting on my bumper till 50k, then he pulled up beside and gave me the nod....I had him by 3 till we shut down at 120k.....none of that was as cool as him following me to the car wash....super nice guy, and figured he was playing with "a typical 305 with a muffler" (his words).....all and all a cool night.

Video of the race?

Time slip of your car?

Dyno sheet of your car?

I dont know if you have noticed yet but the damn 5.0 is no pig. No one is going to belive you without a video so there is no point in posting that you pulled one if you dont have proof.

This might actually be the dumbest conversation I have had in a long time....and I had lunch with my father in law last week lol.
Video..? Cause I carry a camcorder around while driving alone to the car wash. Who doesn't these days....
Time slip?..... the snow just melted like a week ago, and the car has been on the road for a day lol.
Dyno sheet? See above.....literally on the road 2 days....
Your right, the coyote is no slouch, neither is my junk....and really, I was just sharing an amusing event....I care very little about who belives me and who doesn't...

Likely the nicest guy ever, he followed me into the parking lot of the car wash to chat, his son had an Iroc years ago and he was an enthusiast. He is planning on doing a big tour across Canada with it this summer as a retirement gift lol. Pretty cool and he is going to hook up with a couple of us for some cruise nights before he goes on vacation.
And yes, he assumed a TPI 305/700R4 like his sons....so he was surprised.....

Re: killed a coyote

i dont know what your car setup is but seeing the so cal guys with their tpi setups making north 400whp and shutting alot of cars down from very strong torque band i think it could be a close race..close short race. if it was stretched out any longer i think he would pull back on you quite hard.

cool that he pulled over to talk ..shows to me neither one of you cared who won or lost.just good old racing.

Those pro filer heads are no slouches... maybe not 400hp... but 350ish shouldnt be that unreasonable if its built well with all the supporting bolt ons that should go with it. I dont see it as being that far fetched.

Re: killed a coyote

You guys doubting need to check your figures. His combo puts him capable of low 12's near 112 mph if decently light weight as most 3rd gens are. I tuned a combo that made about same power in a 86 z28 that ran 12.2 at 112 and would pull on stock coyotes. After coyote receives air intake and tune however, they pull away. So it can happen, i have seen coyotes go mid 12's at 110-112 before. They arent 4000 lbs either but still heavier than most 3rd gens

This is the stupidest post Ive seen on here.

Congrats on beating the new mustang. Racing has many factors, its not just about peak numbers and 1/4 times SOME owners have managed. Even more so on the street.

OMG Dude. You must be thr Forum Troll or whatever they call it.
A well built 355" motor can make 175HP or 575HP. So what you have been saying in this thread is meaningless BS.

Where are youre dynosheet's, Track slips, Videos?????

Those cylinder heads he's using are nothing short of insane for what they are.

I personally believe it. I've seen some BAD drivers in general, so even if the 5.0 was modified, it's still entirely possible regardless of the odds.

Re: killed a coyote

You only need 330's whp to out run or hang with a stock 'yote. I your car is 3200-3300 like some fbodies are, you are fine. My fully loaded leather iroc was 3400. Light carpet plus drag wheels i was 3300. Aluminum heads drop another 50.

Coyotes make 360-380 stock on occassion, 400-420 with tune and air intake/catback, but usually weigh 3600 or so. If they dont drive right or dont get in the right gear they lose.

I out run a stocker in my 320 whp ls1 trans am

It seems I pushed a "hot" button here lol....yes, not alot of cam, I will give you that, lots more head then most people realize, I did the research and talked to the right people before I pulled the trigger, comp roller rockers, performer rpm, 1"Carb spacer, 750dp, hedman Shorties (granted not the best) but a custom y-pipe and 3" to the back, no cats, no smog, no emmisions equipment at all, no options other then windows and mirrors, the car isn't a heavyweight. A true zero decked, 5cc flat tops, 0.041 head gasket, perfect quench, 10.3:1 comp, 20° initial timing, 34° total all in by 2600. It is what it is....and I never once claimed 400 WHEEL hp, I said 375-400....period.....coyote in stock form through the 6spd auto is a 350WHEEL hp car. On a good day.....sure,...I'm lying lol.....at the end of the day, the car works, and works well for what it is....so I'm happy.
Next year = eBay boost and the heads will see some time at speier's and then we can have a new argument about running down 600cc crotch rockets lol.

Ebay boost threads are always my favorite. Everyone always knocks them but they always perform lol.
I plan to run a hair dryer one day when i can afford to replace broken drive train pieces.

I picked up a GT45 off a buddy awhile ago when he ran out of funds for his build, I have "decent" rods, arp throughout the short block, will pull it, install dish pistons and reinstall lol....my own little grenade. I will ship my heads to Chad speiers, have some mild work done to them, going to do my own Carb mods, then pick up a set of eBay ff headers. The only real money is going to be on a fuel system....and even that will be a couple of walbro 255's inline. Then I will see how strong my "built" 700 really is.

Don't feel bad bygddy, you could post a timeslip, 3 videos, and even have 3 witnesses post up, and some ******* on here would still pop up to call you a liar. I think this is my perfect example lol: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/theo...ta-vs-bmw.html

And to make it even funnier and show what a douchenozzle he is, the guy went back and edited all his posts to make us look like the bad guys hahaha. Luckily though, I quoted him in his original responses.

Good win man, don't let the haters get you.

Love that thread, I had read it when I first signed up here and lmao....people will hate, and call you a liar any time your performance is better then theirs ....especially when you do it cheaper or on "stock" parts.....

Re: killed a coyote

COYOTE ROAD KILL!

Did you pick it up and grill it for dinner after the kill?

Picking up road kill is legal in Tennessee as long as it 24 hrs fresh!

I don't know that I would really call it a "combo" as much as whatever was lying around in the garage strewn together.

High compression, yet small cam.

Big carb (overcarbbed for sure), small headers. Loose converter, wrong rear end ratio.

I looked at the pro filter heads a couple years ago when Darin was briefly working with them. The 'one size fits all' head with the crappy exhaust port isn't worth the few bucks cheaper than AFR.

Re: killed a coyote

Its understalled but i dont think its overly carbed. Alot of 350's seem to do well with 750's. cam is a good match for a street 350, but next size up would fit the heads and compression better.

It may not be a well matched combo but certainly an engine combination lol

Profilers are fantastic castings. The 195 as cast may not compare to afr cnc but you can get them from jegs for 1000-1100 a pair which is 400 cheaper than afr. Thats a cam and a timing set for most guys. Flat tappet thats a cam and lifters and extra parts lol. However once ported the profiler is leaps and bounds above afr. You cant do much with afr 195, to go bigger you have to go to their larger heads. The profiler 195 has been ported to over 240cc and has run 4 sec 1/8 mile et's in nitrous 275 radial cars. For a 400" motor with 23 deg heads that is insane.

I'm not agreeing with you on the Profiler. The cross sectional area is huge vs the flow, which I'm sure is great for 7,000 RPM circle track cars but not for a street strip car, and especially not for a low compression blown car that you don't want to be a stone off boost.

When did Jeg's start carrying profiler? Last I checked you had to call them directly and talk to the guys that make them yet couldn't answer my simple questions on spring specs.

Re: killed a coyote

Ok jegs brand heads are profiler castings. Not many seem to know that. Summit brand used to be trickflow but think its now dart or brodix.

Afr's are a fast velocity head. When used on the wrong application they will choke up, an cost rpm range and power. Profilers with mild clean up such as what dr j's or speier racing provides will match afr flow numbers or be within a few cfm but they will generally keep flowing to higher lifts than afr before backing up. This is important on a running engine, even if you arent running higher lifts.

I can tell you this. My 245cc heads do not make my 400 a stone off boost. It moves very well even with highway gear. A good port shape will have enough flow and velocity for street driving. A bad port that doesnt have a uniform velocity profile may make a stone, but thats one port compared to another.

If you want a low rpm motor then you can get away with fast port heads. When you are going after more rpm for even more power you need larger csa heads to prevent choke. Each head has its pros and cons. The porting capability for profiler is superior, when comparing 195 castings. Afr is close to being maximized out the box. Even the comp port 195 uses a different casting than the street 195

Well Joe, it would sound like your an engine building wizard and I should be grateful for your "constructive" critizism.
10.3 is not "high" compression
While the cam isnt "big" its a decent piece that makes decent power down low which is perfect for a nice street car.
Your opinions on the heads is simply based on the usual "if it ain't AFR its crap" kinda guy. Therefore its irrelivant and for the most part plain stupid
Your statement "over carbed for sure" indicates your another typical "needs a 650 vs Carb for a street motor" Kinda guy, and its an innacurate blanket statement.
The converter isn't loose at all, again, an ill informed blanket statement that shows your need to have an opinion on everything.
The gear (327) with a 26" tire, and the deep first of the 700 makes a very quick street car that cruises on the highway (which I do alot of) very nicely.
At the end of day you simply assume respect and are willing to critize my junk without any fear of being contradicted due to your ridiculously high post count. Well fortunately, I actually don't give a sht about you, your opinion, or your post count. Its my car, its my "thrown together parts" and it does exactly what I want from it. For likely less money then you have invested in wheels and tires on whatever you happen to drive. So with that I thank you for giving me a platform to express my extreme distaste for anyone who feels their opinion is better then everyone else's. Have a lovely evening.

And here is a different, more intelligent post with an opinion that isn't delivered from the perspective of an arrogant know it all. And i appreciate it. Yes, its def understalled, loose, no, but should have a 3000 minimum which would also allow for a step or even 2 up on cam size, but this would also dictate a gear change as well, I have driven 323 geared cars with a decent converter and to me it always feels like your "on the converter" until its actually locked. Which I didn't want. And yes, I have been though, and used many different carbs and personally have had great success with a good old 750dp. So instead of changing everything, gear, converter, cam, I chose a decent head, a simple performer rpm, and a 750, then left everything else alone. The other side of this is I will be putting together a Turbo build with these parts in the fall, and wanted to stay with my "small" cam for a Turbo combo, the same as I want to keep the 327 gears with a Turbo. So I didn't think it was smart to have to redo things in the fall for a few more HP this summer. Hope all that made sense lol.
