Re: 350 L98 are slow bull
I am actually old enough to remember when the L98 Camaros first came out. One of the magazines, Car Craft I think, took a GM loaner car out street racing in LA. That car was very impressive. I can remember meeting my first L98 IROC on Eries public dock while I was driving my 350 4 Bbl Z28. It made a lasting impression.

Re: 350 L98 are slow bull
WTF? On what planet is a 345 ft-lb L98 a "boat anchor"? Sorry the eighties' low compression, fuel conscious stock engines don't run stock 12's. You're into the wrong cars if you want it otherwise.

Re: 350 L98 are slow bull
This planet 345ft lbs is useless because the tpi dosent breathe. Look at my camaro you honestly think you can hang with it? It's a stock lq9 with L92 heads and a ls3 intake, long tube headers and a tune. So why should I have my Gta with a L98? You know you can pause live tv now and they come flat also. Still playing Atari?

Re: 350 L98 are slow bull
The fact of the matter is, the TPI was good for its time. With a TPI parts being phased out, it starts to make more and more sense to drop an LSX in. 345 ft.@3200 RPM is good if you're towing something. It's good if you're cruising around and trying to save gas. But peaking out at 245HP @ 4400 RPM isn't going to win you any 1/4 mile races anymore. Even built up and going 12.5's is still not quick enough when racing newer muscle cars. The body still looks cool on our cars and the handling is still decent. But the reality is that L98's had their time and that time has come and gone. They are still fun to build up, but because of the design limitations, they are very suitable in a towing or daily driver application and possibly Autocrossing. 1/4 mile requires some work to break into the 12's. And 12's are not fast anymore when off the factory cars can be bought off the show room floor that will do that.

I'm your huckleberry, my TPIs are sloooooow, no I don't have, want or need a smart phone and yes I do still wear Chuck Ts (matter O fact I just got a snazzy new black pair, for my wedding n 2 weeks). They are a novelty, kinda like my car, not all the time and only on special occasions..
You may want to take a look at some things the CA boys are doing with lil 360ish ci TPIs b4 you trash talk em much more. ;-)
Yes, the LS is a great motor but it comes from years of enginering ideas and refining the old junk your talking down on.(plus quite a few stolen ideas from real Pontiac motors).
I gotta get back to playing Atari space invaders on my 65" TV..

Re: 350 L98 are slow bull
I have seen what can be done to tpi and I'm still not impressed. Maybe I have been too harsh on the L98. How about when I swap out my L98 for the LS motor I give her some proper treatment. I'll let her sit in the outside in e rain for a month or so and then let her sit at the bottom of the Hudson river right after I drop a Duce on it.

I'm sure it would look real nice next to the pile of broken LS blocks cranks rods an pistons I have dumped there.

In a decade or two LS will be considered slow too, cause i guarantee Chevy or some other company will make a titanium(or some other type of metal) engine that will embarass the LS just like how the LS is doing the gen I,II engines.

I figured this conversation would resort to this as soon as I saw this dude was from Brooklyn. WTF is it with you people there that makes you have to talk **** all the time?
Let me guess, once some people post up here to back up the TPI, you'll argue with them, one of them will argue back and get smart, and then eventually you'll start making threats about yo boyz and poppin caps and splittin wigz yo, right?
And no I'm not talking ****, Just stating a fact because I run a forum and deal with people from all over the world daily and Brooklyn just seems to have some of the best ones. Hell, I once had a guy join from there and had to ban him that same day because he didn't like what someone had to say and sent them a message threatening them with a driveby shooting lol. I'm guessing it's something in the water.
Either way, to each his own on engine choice. You had no reason to come into the thread and talk smack other than to **** people off or try to make yourself feel special for having an LS. I could personally not give less of a crap about your views on my engine and I'm not impressed with yours, so guess you wasted your time.

Re: 350 L98 are slow bull
The B2L L98 was and still is a fast car, maybe not compared to today showroom cars but since when does a 20 year old car have to beat todays top dog ? It's only 2 seconds slower than today Camaro SS that runs 13 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Lmao.
You can't compare 20 year old smog technology vs 2 decades of upgrading Innovations. I for one have defeated mustang GT's and the legendary VR4.

For another $1,500 (heads, cam,TC,gears), I'll be running with and beating alot of the even newer cars. I've already killed a Mustang GT, Cobalt SS, 350Z, FWD Impala SS V8, 60's Impala, '10 Camaro RS and so on, so I just don't see the problem with my 143K mile L98.

It remains to be seen if they will become as cheap to get their hands on as LSx based engines have become.

I don't know you at all and honestly don't care about your stats but you better look at a map. We r the meth Capitol, you have 2 go south 4 the incest...

Re: 350 L98 are slow bull
Lol, agreed with TTOP. That place and NJ are about 90% trash. Granted, every place has it's good and bad, but NYC and NJ are horrible places with mostly scuzzy people. First time I went to Jersey I almost ended up in a fight because the guy that owned the bar I was sitting at for dinner was treating his bartender (who was crying because of him) and my late wife like ****. My wife tried to use the jukebox and it took her dollar and he refused to give it back. Once that was settled (he made the bartender give it back out of her tips), she got her song going and he made the bartender turn it down so we couldn't hear it. I finally stood up and told him what a fat piece of **** he was and had to be escorted out by my family before I killed the scumbag. And really, Look at you too for example, almost to retirement, has 3 kids, a college education, and yet your still a mouthy and cocky ******* that needs to speak up in a thread to brag about your LS motor and put our l98's down to make yourself feel good. Now that is truly sad and typical of where you live. I have a ton of stories about the scumballs, *******s and scammers that come from around there, so I doubt it's a coincidence.
And again, I couldn't care less about where 3K would put your motor compared to mine. I still run 13's and have over 300 HP and 400 tq. on stock heads/cam/drivetrain with only $1,500 in bolt on's, 22 year old tech. and 143K miles, so obviously it's not the boat anchor you say it is and I'm happy with it so far. Unless Shelby or Lingenfelter is your last name, your opinion on motors means jack to me.

And where the **** do you get your comprehension levels at, cause nobody here is giving sob stories, just facts about the giant shithole you live in and how all you morons act like freshly uncaged monkeys over there.
I feel worse for you. I have a better job working for myself, my own paid for house, 5 paid for vehicles, a GF, a kid, and more. I can also leave my cars unlocked and my belongings inside without them being stolen where I live, unlike the giant crack parade of a city you call home.
I don't need to pray to god you were dead, if I want you that way bad enough, you will be. Wouldn't be worth it though, I'd rather you have to go on living in a toilet and making posts on the internet about your awesome motor to make yourself feel better since your life is so insignificant, that is the only thing you can do to keep yourself going everyday. I'll bet your wife and kids hate you too lol.

Agreed. Huge leaps in technology and part making processes and materials since then, which equals greater power potential and efficency.
I'll bet I'm pretty much running door to door with stock LS1 autos right now and it only took me about 1,500 bucks to do it. Lol @ this thread.
With Pony cars running low 12's from the factory these days, the only reason to keep a TPI is for nostalgic reasons
Doesn't mean the TPI doesn't deserve credit but there no use trying to compare it to GM, Mopar or Ford new engines.

what average car is running 12's from the factory? none except new v8 cars. The Mopar cars are not that impressive also, too heavy. I have already beaten several Chargers/300C Hemis. and I'm still running stock block, heads, cam, tpi intake. Just have bolt-ons

Wow have I typed in my new York accent? No I don't pop caps or do drive byes and i laugh at forum thugs. I have a steady job that I will retire in 9 more years and I do have a college education and a father of three. The way you stereo typed me is funny and sad at the same time. My crack at incest county was a joke. You guys need to lighten up some buddy. And if I put 3k into my set up where would that put me? I guess way in front of you then. Keep you engine if it makes you happy then ok. I just stated how I felt about my L98 and none of you liked it. So the best thing now for you guys and especially mr Toronto Ohio is to get my ***** out of your mouth and get back on L98 topic. And also I love it how tourist especially from hick states like the one your from come here and get a taste of NY. I'm just here from west bumble**** because there are no jobs so I'm here in NY with my new benefit card to make it big or just mooch off the middle class. I hope you visit soon with you slowgen.

Hell, my LT1 could do it with the right tire and launch. The trap speed is there for a high 12.
I run dead even with a Challenger R/T which is a 350hp powered Challenger. An SRT8 version would blow my doors off.
