Trans Am vs Trans Am who gets this close one.

I know this is going to be a close run. I tried to get into the Vimulator but it won't let me in despite being registered. Even my friend with the 82 admits it will be close. Run the 1/4 mile or whatever tests you please.

1982 Trans Am, 406 SBC, 477 HP at 5500 RPM at the flywheel, Draco springs and blistens, on 245/40R17 fronts and 275/40R17 rears, a Turbo 350 with a 3000 stall shifting at 6200 with a 3.42 rear gear.

vs

1984 Trans Am, 383 SBC, approx 475 at 5500 (theoretical I haven't built the motor yet so it could easily be more) Eibach pro kit and Konis, on 16 inch formula wheels. 255/50R16s all the way around. A 1997 spec F body T56 shifting at 6200 RPM going through a 3.73 rear gear.

I'm guessing both cars weigh about 3300.

Who gets it?

It's a bit hard to bench race a car that isn't even built yet. Actually it's completely pointless

But if I had to guess....the '82 provided the traction is there.

Well the motor is not there yet, but the car is otherwise built. I'm probably gonna end up being close to his figure at the flywheel is not more. The guy I know says it may be closer than many think. His best was a 12.4. People are saying if I build a 500 horse stroker and get it to hook I'll be in the mid 11s. The owner of the 82 had the goal of 10 sec in the 1/4. I'm willing to bet it might be down to RT, traction, and if I nail each shift. He obviously has better traction but probably not by much.

I too am going to go with the 82... Auto's are much easier to launch especially with the weak tires you both will be running.

Mod for mod, Stalled auto cars beat manual cars every time. Even with less horsepower. In this case, he has more hp than you and the Th350 is a drag racers transmission.

He has 477 at the flywheel and he's only pulling 12.40's? Something isn't right there....

Re: Trans Am vs Trans Am who gets this close one.

I think my rear gear makes up for the HP considering its a two HP difference, but if the stall runs better than the manual and clutch then I guess that might make the race. I've seen his car run, he was running 13.2 13.4 in Kansas with wheelspin for at least 60 feet. My motor is hypothetical. I don't know exactly what I will end up with. 475 was a round figure since I was shooting for 475-500 if more then great. As for weight, my car I know weighs around 3300 with driver, his is probably about the same. So weight cancels out IMO. Both are street cars. I agree that he might take it, but as I said, even he admitted it might be closer than many think and I might get one on a holeshot. If we ever got them both on the strip. At the moment its not happening anytime soon. Hes in the midwest I'm on the east coast.

I believe that number was on street tires. Not slicks. I don't believe hes run slicks yet. Hes got serious traction problems too. As I said in my previous post, I've seen it run, hes spinning the rears for at least 60 feet. While chatting in the lanes waiting to line back up again, he said as much, traction, traction, traction. He didn't have any.

LOL. I know. If he was running slicks then I already surrendered hahaha. Regardless I'll probably have a solid 12 sec car when I'm done anyway. 11s on slicks. Fun street driver. Hes still got the car and is now building an LS1 Miata....with a 4.11 gear, Pretzel in the making?
