Stock Jetta 1.8 T Auto vs Camaro RS

I was on the way home from my in-laws house yeterday with my wife and my 2 dogs and a late 80's Camaro RS pulled up next to me at a light. It had a temp tag so the car was "new" to the owner. After I looked over at him and smiled he became very itchy at the light and kept creeping forward. I didn't want to floor it right off the line because I was not sure if he would really race a Jetta with a family of 4 in it but he took the bait! He got a good jump on me off the line (his back bumper was 5 feet in front of mine by the time I hit about 10 mph. At the top of my first gear we were almost even. I hit 2nd and he was still in his long *** 1st and I didn't pull much more until he hit 2nd. When he hit 2nd he was a done deal! At the top of my 2nd I had him by about 2 car lenghts and I hit the flashers. He pulled up to me at the next light and didn't look over. When the light turned green I took off nice and slowly and he did the same. He didn't want anymore of that! I kind of felt bad after my wife said, "he probably thought his car was fast and was really proud of his new Camaro". He probably doesn't make much money and is sad now". Oh well, she has a way to make me feel bad about my wins.
Just wanted to share, not that a late 80's Camaro RS is exactly fast. What do the 5.0's have,160 hp? Kind of funny how a 109 can beat a 305. I can't wait until I get my car chipped! HP goes from 150 to 210 because the boost goes from 7 to 12!

That RS was probably a 2.8 liter V-6.

Gay? HA! Don't get me started on the white trash that drives Camaro's! Anyway, it is my wifes car. There was nothing wrong with his car. I have seen 16.0's to 16'2's for stock 1.8t Jetta's with autos (150 hp trim). The 2002's make 180 hp and run mid 15s stock. Do a little homework and you will see that a 1.8t Jetta with just a chip ($325) can easily run mid to low 14's. Anyway, the fact is that it had to be a 305 because I would have blow it away big time if it was a v-6. And even with my wife plus the 2 dogs that was only an extra 300 lbs at most! Come on, honestly how does a RS run in the 1/4th stock with an auto? Like low 17's? Sticks might run mid 16's on a very good day?

If you knew anything about the 1.8t you would know that it is the same engine that is in the Audi TT with 225 hp. There are only a few differences. The TT has a slightly larger turbo (Ko4) and a different exhaust. THe 180 hp engines in the 2002 VWs is the same engine that is in the 2001's except with different programing. A chipped 1.8t will pull 180 hp at the wheels. This is a know fact. They also put down about 240 lb-ft at the crank of torque because at lower rpms the run 16-18lbs of boost. Check out vwvortex.com and learn a bit before you start mouthing off. You have no idea what you are talking about!

And talk about pieces... the third generations are know for being very shoddy cars! My best friend has a 87 firebird formula and it always has something wrong with it! Plus I have never heard a car with more rattles! It is worse than my 86 5.0 LX was!
