Holey Moley!

While conducting a search for a new catback, I came upon a site that listed a car called the Mercury Capri. It was catagorized Camaro/Firebird or Mustang/Capri. So I went to ebaymotors to see what the hell a Capri was. Its just like a Mustang! Before then I have never seen or heard of these cars. The only Capri's I seen were worn by girls.

I haven't seen them either, I think that's because they were belittled by the Mustang... Think about it, if you're in the market for a Ford sports car (ok not thinking about it) and you see a "classic" Mustang or a Mercury Capri which looks the same only with a squished nose... I bet the sales really sucked for that car.

I just found some pics of late model capris, Ive seen them... below is an early model capri and below that is a late model capri.

Actually, the Capri has been around for a while. I have a book that has it listed under Ford from the 70's. It actually wasn't a bad looking car, I'll try to post some pics.

Not comparing stock to stock.

A SVO with stock psi is 195-205 horsepower depending on the year. They have less torque too. We are talking high 15s stock.

But my friend Tom has a SVO with tons of boost and it is just killer at the strip. 13s on pep boys tires sound good? I think it is.

On the other hand, my friend Ryan wants to buy a Capri RS 5.0 5-speed. They were very fast for their era. Although, Mustang sales were much more phenominal than the Capri, which ultimately led to it's reincarnation as a quaint female roadster. Not from it's former days as a American Muscle car. Merc should have redesigned it better than they did, and they should have given it more ***** than the lowly 2.3L HSC I4 could produce.

The Capri and the Mustang were the same thing from 79-85. While under appreciated, they've became somewhat collectable now by a small group of people. Besides the different front end, if you'll look closely at the rear fenders you'll see they buldge out a little more as well as the rear hatch is a little more bubbly. It's pretty common to see one of these with a mustang nose as well...and they actually look pretty good like that. The newer model capri has nothing in common with the Mustang though.

When I had my first car, 1980 Mustang, my Dad was able to buy a totaled Capri with a 5.0 in it. He then rebuilt it for my Mustang, sadly at that time I wasn't into car and building engines. I remember he was spray painting the block blue, and I was like why are you doing that, it's just a motor.

Yeah, I looked through my book again, the first Capri's were under the Ford name frome 1969-1986. They were Europe's version of the Mustang, they also ran in the GT class races. They look okay, I'd post pics but AOL is kinda slow right now.
