Oh my *** , you mean to tell me that I could get beat by an Altima, I haven't G-Teched my car since the gears and exhaust, but I figure I am around those times. I G-Teched a 2000 or 2001 Altima with 4 people in the car I pulled a 16.5 or close to that it was a while ago.

Yep, it is the same as the Maxima and the new Infiniti I35 (used to be I30). And I thought the Maximas were going to be fast....14.4, that is ridiculous for a midsize V6 car. That is knocking on the door of the brand new GT Disgustangs. Wow, that must be frustrating for the Fords fans.

i dont know those maxima's do get 250'ish horse power. my uncle has one and its pretty damn quick. it beat my firebird before i had the gears and servo in it.
if the altima has the same engine you might wanna watch out.

Yea...my cus has the 2001 altima..he is probably trading it in for either the '02 altima...or the new VW Gulf GTI. The Altima is going to be available for the first time with a V6 engine...and it can come in either 5 speed or automatic. They are nice cars...and this year they decided to make them faster than the Maximas. I am pretty sure the '01 Maxima's had like 230-250 hp this year. Either way they were nice cars. Well I guess I will be losing to my cus' new car...but at least he doesnt rice out his cars. His Nissans I can actually respect...since he doesnt put stupid a$$ stickers and an exhaust that you can stick a softball into.

Can you imagine if they take the supercharger that they offer on the pickup truck and stick it on the new Altima. Wishfull thinking. Sigh, the old TPI just doesn't cut it anymore @210 hp, thats what alot of minivans have now. I give up.....

I was also very impressed with the times of the new altima's..A girl I work with has one brand new and let me tell you that thing flies. Feels dam quick and almost as fast as my IROC. I bet it would be a dam good race between the two. Well atleast one import company has done something right and made a quick N/A car that looks halfway decent.

I'll say this much: I could just barely pull on an altima at plus 90mph with the ltd. Also, my cousins 00 altima 4 cylinder is a nice car. It's a little faster than the ltd on takeoff and it sounds beautiful. It growls. Doesn't look aggressive enuf tho.

Lets not forget that no matter how fast the car is it is still an Altima. I'd rather get my butt kicked and drive a thirdgen. If they made a geo metro that ran 13's would that make it a good car?
just a thought

you need to check the new 2002's out, they don't look anyting like the old Altimas. More like a new Lexus in looks....I know, I bought one.

I have seen them inside and out. Even if it was a Lexus, it is not a sports car. It may run the quarter in sports car like times, but nothing can change the fact that it is a four door sedan. I dont mean to upset anyone who owns one, just trying to compare it to a thirdgen.
peace

I have always thought that a glossy black paint job can do wonders for anything, maybe that's why I think that an altima-00 or newer- would look pretty good. The new accords look ok. Some maximas, and I'm a big subaru fan too. Not just any car can look good, but I have seen that any car can look bad. The first SS that I saw first hand was, as most of you would say, riced out. It did not have dual exhaust, but 1 muffler with two tips. It also had white lights, it looked to be lowered and several other things that would cause a camaro fan to kill. I've heard of a guy who said he lowered a chevelle 454 ss and put big gold rims and little tires on it. If I ever end up with an altima, maxima- something of that nature, it would be black with limo tint and dual mufflers. Why do people put these bee sounding exhaust systems on cars, lower them, put huge wings on them, white lights...why? This gives people a bad impression. It's sad really. Them main freaked out vehicles- s10s, CRXs, Accords, Saturns- I've raced them all- in the Crown Vic- and never lost. If they like the car, I'm not going to scream Buy American at them- that's a stupid thing to say. But they look at my car and think slow granny car. Guess again. I've always wondered about something and I think that I am right. I have always thought using the same amount of money and the same equipment-the ltd would be faster than the cutlass. After all you can only bore a 403 so much. Any thoughts? And going back to the subject, does anyone have any info on the 00 altimas?

I don't think there was anyone comparing. They just said watch out, or you could be beat by a 4 door family sedan. And are you saying 4 door BMW's are family sedans?

Any car with 4 doors is not a sports car, and YES a 4 door bmw is a family sedan. I dont care if its a new M5. It may be fast, but its still just a fast luxury car. I see what you are saying about looking out for them, but I dont know how many people who buy them will really be in the mood to race me at a stoplight. They probably will have a few kids in the car with them. See what I mean?

Yea, I see what you mean, and I never intended to come across that they are a sports car. But some family sedans are faster than heck from the factory. Your right, most mothers carrying kids in the back won't race, they are a little older than that. But the point was made earlier, someone stated that they are coming out with more HP than older V8's. And they are, so technology at it's finest. But when you are in your mid 30's and are married and have a couple kids, you may like something like a four door, that can run.

I hear ya. Those new cars just keep getting faster and faster. What I find amazing is that the emmisions regulations keep getting tighter and tighter, but somehow those engineers keep finding horsepower. Hope I dont come up to some snot-nosed punk kid driving mommies new altima at a stoplight. If he/she knew how to shift they'd think they had a race car after kicking my butt into submission.
