Who would win? Z28 vs Mustang GT vs Impreza WRX?
These cars were tested in the Road and Track magazine..... the November issue.
It included the new "Lamborghini's 580 bhp beast......
I noticed that the performance numbers on each of these three competitors could have been bettered...... therefore could the Impreza WRX outperform the Z28? Or would the Mustang GT outperform the Impreza WRX?
There performance numbers are as follows:
The Camaro Z28 6-speed, 0-60 in 5.5 seconds; ?Ž1/4 mi in 13.9 @ 103.4 mph; slalom 65.1 mph; skidpad .81g
The Mustang GT 5-speed, 0-60 in 6.1 seconds; 1/4 mi in 14.7 @ 94.7 mph; slalom 64.0 mph; skidpad .84g
The Impreza WRX 5-speed, 0-60 in 5.7 seconds; 1/4 mi in 14.4 @ 94.3 mph; slalom 62.3 mph; skidpad .76g
All of these cars are 2001 models and are available in under $25,000......

Yeah I thought the new GT's ran 14.2. How ever, I heard the Impreza's ran 14.7 so I think that is accurate.

I agree on the most part...... but in this test, the Impreza WRX beat the Mustang GT in all but one category..... the skidpad.......
The Camaro Z28 was no where near in the vicinity of the LS1 performances..... it was relatively close to a LT1 performances......
The Mustang GT is also no where near the performances of the new 4.6L engine.....
The reply " all of those #'s suck, that driver couldn't drive for $hit!" did not answer the question.... "could the Mustang Gt outperform the Impreza WRX?; or could the Impreza WRX outperform the Z28?"

All this hype about LS1's in the 12's with just intake and exhaust is a bunch of bull$hit. I have seen modded LS1's run consistant 13.90's with little or no tire spin. Take that for what it's worth. </font>

If those numbers are true, then I would be beating LS1's stock by a FULL second from 0-60...that just aint true! Me and a buddy of mine w/a '01 GT 5 Speed took it out to the the track and ticked off a 14.3. I think some magazines are biased towards imports.

well off in the real world it depends on the specific WRX you are racing. There are 3 modles now to choose from. even a 270 plus HP model. And remember with a better boost controller that WRX will walk ya. The Z/28 SS or whatever they were racing can be quick, but a "stock" WRX HO 270 HP flat 4 that can run under mid 13's is pretty damn impressive.
Now in a real street race it all comes down to the driver. And if they know WTF they are doing. I have seen a 69 Olds 442 get beat by a 92? CRX(Honda) that did not even have a turbo, just headers and stuff... The 442 decided to show off and spin his tires and he got smoked BAD.

I don't know who the driver was, but the numbers were horrible. I have not seen a new mustang go slower than a 14.7 at Lebanon Valley Dragway, and that was a crummy launch. I've seen one WRX coupe with a five speed run a 14.5 while the GTs were running 14.3s all night. This article also showed the Camaro a little slower than it should be and the WRX was pretty close. As for the out handeling, I think the Mustang and Camaro should out handle the WRX, unless its wet or slippery.

Well this weekend i was down at the illegals in vegas and saw this exact race, a slightly modded z28, SLP loudmouth exhaust and thats it race a WRX with headers and exhaust and the WRX got him off the line but the Z28 eventually pulled on him both guys were good drivers and it was a close race watch out guys those WRX's are tricky little suckers
