91 RS vs. 71 Duster

My friend has a 71 Duster that just got a rebuilt High Performance 360. He and his mechanic are estimating around 400-450 HP. Believe it's built, I've seen and heard it. It has the stock rear right now but it still hauls. My friend is planning on some higher gears and a posi along with some other stuff.
I have a 91 RS, it has a 305(I know he would hand me my *** right now)but I have a lot of future mods on the way as soon as I get some money.
I plan on dropping in a 383 TPI, super or mini ram built by me and my dad.I'm going to do a tranny swap from auto to a tremec 3550 or TKO 5 speed along with the extreme duty driveshaft. I will also be getting a new Moser 9" or 12 bolt rearend with 342's or 350's (it's going to be my daily driver so nothing too drastic)of course it will be posi. I'd also like to run some kind of a true dual setup.
I honestly think this will be a good race, I'm not sure how much his Duster weighs but I think everything will come down to the driver. Especially if his car will do what we're expecting it to. Any other opinions are welcomed. Thanks.

We just dropped a 383 into my dad's 70' Monte Carlo, it's about the heaviest american piece of steel on wheels, and trust me it hauls. Whoever your friends mechanic is he is definately wrong To take an original bore 360 and make well over 400 horses is pretty damn hard. Anyways a 383 not only help you whoop his *** but it will open your friends eyes WIDE!

Just for the hell of it. Give him a run with your 305, then you'll realize just how much weight plays a factor.

ya know, just for the hell of it.

I did kind of wonder about his hp rating, but I told him once I get all my mods done he'll be seein' nothing but my taillights!

I don't know. I saw something about a guy with a 72 Duster running 13's with a modded 340 and 3.23's. I'm building the engine from the bare block and up so I'm going to try and get as much hp as I can. I think it would be a good race. Even though his car weighs a whole heck of a lot more than mine.

You might try to convince him to take that Duster to a scale (but don't let him talk you into to taking your RS). What you'll probably find is that the Duster weighs a good deal less than your car (not unlike early-70's Novas vs. Camaros).

The 360 is a fairly decent engine. A mag (Pop Hot Rod?) did a performance crate motor comparison a few years ago, 360 vs. 350 vs. 351; the 360 took it hands-down.

Without knowing all the details of each ride, I'm afraid I wouldn't automatically put my money on yours.

Here's about what the specs will be.
My car(91 RS):383 Stroker, Mini ram or Super Ram, LT4 Hot cam, AFR 195cc Heads, Hooker Super Comp Headers, Dr. Gas X-pipe, high flow cats and mufflers, Tremec 3550 5 Speed, 3.42 or 3.50 rearend(posi), there may be some stuff I'm missing but I'll probably think of it later.
His(71 Duster):Modded 360, big camshaft(not sure of lift or duration), 3.23 rearend, automatic, true dual exhaust w/ hi-flow mufflers. There may be somethings he'll be doing later as well.
Also here in OK they did away with emissions checks as of August so I wonder if I have to run cats at all. Anyway, any more input or advice is welcome. Thanks.
