Dude, my money is on the VR4.

You have 300 horsepower, 307 ft-lbs of torque.
That's pretty good for a 91. You should have the 5-speed manual.

He should have 275 horsepower, 325 ft-lbs of torque, stock...with the catback, it shouldn't be much more, maybe 10 horsepower.

Is his car an auto? If it is, prepare to hand him his @$$. If it's a 6-speed, then he could give you a good run.

You weigh 3700 lb-ish, and he is similar, around 3600 lbs.

My money is on the VR4 still.

Neither car is a winter beater. I bought the VR4 for the fact that I didn't want to drive my camaro in the winter, I'm keeping both cars. It is a VR4 and we both have manuals.

I can only comment on my experience with one VR4. My roommate in college bought a 91 VR4 (bone stock) and I had a close to stock IROC 350 tpi back then (cat-back, chip, and some free mods). We'd go race now and then and I beat him everytime, until he got an electronic turbo controller and cranked up his boost. I don't know if his engine was tired or what, but the VR4 is a pretty heavy car, around 4000 lbs. if I remember right. I don't know what kind of shape or tune your car is in, but I had nowhere near 275 HP and had no problem beating his VR4 when it was stock.
Just remember that you have to rev the VR4 pretty high at takeoff or the engine will bog BAD! Whenever my roommate didn't rev high enough at the start, his would bog bigtime and it was NO CONTEST. But when he got the rpms high enough, it was ALOT closer. The VR4 is a nice car though, I liked it.

You're gonna lose. His car weighs about 250 pounds less empty(if its hardtop), and he has about the same power and more torque than you. Off the line he will pull far ahead, then you will play catch up. I don't know if you can catch him though.

Most people don't know how to launch a Vr4 with is AWD...

Buddy of mine used to have a AWD Stealth..and in the manual it said to bring the car up to the redline..and dump the clutch(not in those exact words but u get the idea). Its soooooo much fun launching those cars

I can't imagine that the manual actually said this...unless the factory wanted to pay out big bucks for warranty claims. With the AWD DSM's and Stealth/3000GT's I've driven, the best technique seems to be a quick "slip" of the clutch while adding gas from around 5000 rpms, give or take rpms depending on how much you love your clutch. If it's stock, it can take this for a while, but as soon as you add boost, it won't last long.

Ok, the VR-4 for 1991 has 300 horsepower and like 305 pounds of torque. It has a curb weight of 3800 pounds. Now the 1994 Z-28 has 275 horsepower and 325 pounds of torque. Has a curb weight of 3400 pounds. My numbers might not be exact, maybe a couple numbers off. Go to carpoint.com to check my data. Now from this data, I put all my money on the camaro. The mitsubishi weighs 400 POUNDS MORE! And only has like 25 more horses. Now the camaro, weighs 400 pounds less, has borla exhaust which maybe adds like 10 to 15 horses which brings the horsepower up to 285-290. Now there is only a 10-15 horsepower difference. Which the camaro more than makes up for that in torque. More torque for a lighter car, leads to a win. This will be a close race and I think it will all depend on the drivers. But I would definately go with the camaro.

Do a few key mods and you'll smoke the guy.

Try out www.3si.org for some mods/forums, etc. Do the manual boost controller mod and like a K&N intake kit if you have the cash. Stock your cars should be fairly even, him having a edge if you aren't willing to be a little "harsh" on your clutch at the launch. Aim for 4500-5000 rpm launches with just a quick slip of the clutch.

I'm planning to pick myself up a TT Stealth sometime in the future. It's hard to beat a turbo car with AWD and a few key mods... With intake, exhaust, and 14-15 psi of boost on pump gas you can easily be making up close to 400hp. In a AWD car that will be hard to beat on the street...

My cash is on the camaro. I've raced enough VR4's and R/T stealths to know how to handle them. As long as the camaro gets a good launch, the VR4 is toast.

if your worried about it upgrade to some 15G or even 17G turbos!!!!!!!! on that VR4 you'll be leaving Z06's. but seriously Vr4's are fast. put 1k-2k in mods in and that are super fast. but i say Vr4 .

Sorry that VR4 will hand that Z it's a$$... don;t care if it's 2-300 pounds more or not. If he keeps the RPM's above 5k he wins. period. And with the manual he can. I say shift at yellow line and do not release the gas just quick shift and when you come into gear you should be right at red line and walk away easy.

4th gen camaros are not the hype that everyone says they are. The LT1's could do 14's maybe upper 13's that VR4 does mid 13's down stock. If nothing go get a set of headers(yes they make them for the turbo) and get an aftermarket boost controller and pump up the boost 5-6 PSI and then most cetainly walk 'em.

I have a built 92 VR4 (http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/wayquick4u/index.htm) and stock it will smoke an lt1 car...ls1 cars will beat it probably. I street race and can drive really well. Any real VR4/Stealth drive will launch around 5-6 grand and get about 3 cars out of the hole and lose 1-2 of the 3 in the 1/4 to the lt1
