Ok around here seems like everybody is putting 350's and 305's in s10s and s15s

Car: 1987 IROC
Engine: Vortec 350 TPI

I 'raced' a 350 S10. it said "syclone 2" on it and story was he could hang with 2000 GT's.
he go the jump at the start. i heard him spin so i punched it. I left him so fast I was convinced he must not have been racing at all. then my friend in his 17 second ford ranger raced him a few times, and he barely loses to this v8 S10. sad. It really depends on what kind of V8 is put in there. I'm pretty sure this guy thinks that just cause it's a v8 it's fast. but not all 350's are built equal.
I also sorta raced a mazda b4000 with a chevy v8. he punched it and I layed into it too. I was in too high of a gear to be in my powerband (in Drive at 2500rpm) and he couldn't lose me.

V8 s10's setup right.. can realy move though.

my car runs high 13's btw.

How fast would depend on how well the engine swap was done. If a good 350 is put in, they haul. If it is a weak 350 truck motor or some other old beast they picked up for a coulple bucks and did a half @ss rebuild, then it will run bad. It is hard to judge an engine based on displacement only. Look at the LG4 vs L69...both 305's but one runs a lot faster. 11's arent unusual if its a quality built 350.

True, true....I raced a Jimmy with a 350 in it, when my car was stock. I heard V8 exhaust coming up behind me....then we sat at the next light, NOBODY around to bust us. It goes green I feather the throttle for about 1/2 second so I didn't spin..then I just punched it and took off. He was barely keeping up. Now I was like....umm, what the heck, does this guy have a L03?
Anyway....I just kept it floored, we raced for about a mile. Then I just shut it down, because this guy was only 2 carlengths behind me now. Then the next light comes up about an 1/8th mile away. I ask him what he has in it....and he replies..."350". I was like "Huh, you have a 350?" Then, "Yeah, this is one of those 1970s smog truck motors, it has the 76cc heads." I was like...."Ohhhhhhh, those 350s!" Then I told him that I had a 170 horsepower stock 305. He said he has about that much power. He said it didn't like to rev above 4000 rpm. "Heh, mine doesn't either." Then I said I'd see him at the carshows sometime, then we went our separate ways. He did a NICE burnout, sending him sideways around that corner. I did one too, but for long, I didn't want to reveal my peg leg!

The moral of this story....all 350s are different, and there are some that run worse times than L03s! Yes, yes, I know...."L03s can't beat anything!" But it sure did beat a 350 carb'ed Jimmy!

Don't play with them. My buddy has one thats caged and back-halfed------2600 pounds. FYI that about 800 pounds lighter than you. Ever wonder why a 350 horse Import is so fast---power to weight ratio

There use to be a little chevy truck called the luv truck and alot of them got v8's now that the mid to late 80's s10's are cheap they are doing it to them. I've seen 11 sec luv trucks and 12 sec s10's without megabucks being spent on them. If you spend enough you can make anything fast.

I agree there are many different "builds" on any motor. Even a 383 is nothing but a stroked 350. But if power to weight ratio come into play, the S10 with good traction and decent motor would win.
There are a couple around town here that have 350's, 383's and 406's in them, and even with all that, low 12's are pretty easy.
So if one is done correctly, it will haul. But if they spend the first 3 seconds burning rubber while you are off, they should loose. But it will come down to traction and driver.
