305 LB9 are slow bull

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
they were very naive on my part, wouldn't listen to reason, pretty much the normal crackhead responses to anyone that says building a 305 is a waste of time. the only difference between me and the other people claiming they want to build a 305 is that i actually did it, did my homework with a couple key components, and yielded favorable results.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
Well, im sure when i get a S10 to throw my 4.8 in from my 94 GMC with a cam, there will be doubters. But, 7800 RPM will allow the power to pour in. Already have beat 6.0 trucks and LY6s, L92s with the 94 GMC with the 4.8. They dont want to believe it is less than a 5.3 that banged them up.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
i'd like to, someday when i can afford to do it right, build a 4.8 bored out to 5.0 that way i could have an ls305 and beat the old "if it aint a 350 it aint no good" "4 bolt main" guys by miles instead of feet (stock 305 wasn't too bad) just so i can make it look showroom stock right down to the 5.0 Liter High Output decals until you open the hood, i cant wait for the "that aint a 305 man thats a corvette motor" (actually thats a truck engine) lol

We talked about the 5 liter LS didn't we Matt? Would be cool. Still cannot wait to hear my first 7800 rpm 4.8.

Mw66Nova... I bet you got just a much praise as greif. Well... almost as much. Even if IROC's are slow, they are still cool cars.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
4.8 is one of the most reliable engines ive ever owned.
365k miles, zero drips or leaks. plenty of hp. my truck pulls pretty hard.
just tune. gets 22mpg on 87. easily over 300 with cai i made and tune.. never goes above 130•, with stock thermal clutch fan
i have 2010 4.8 with 243 heads and 90mm intake for it in reserve.
when i drop that.motor in, im gonna get shorties and tune for it. stock cam. i love the 500rpm idle. sometimes i forget its on.
and i know it will handle 700hp and 7000rpm reliably.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
i remember the lsx305 conversations, and it's not completely off the horizon, but it's not a priority at all right now. a 5.7 piston on a 4.8 crank is 312" and is something that i've thrown around a little.
i believe the 7800rpm is possible given the bore/stroke combo, but i'd like to see a solid roller and adjustable rockers just for stability.
Tx TtopZ, fighting disbelief was the most painful thing of the whole experience, lol. i like the idea of a hopped up g92 car honestly. i had a vision for a factory "ss" type of car, that included all the top available pieces, but being stealthy, to include stock manifolds, but build a mandrel bent y-pipe and proper exhaust system, and putting in something in the mid 21x* duration wise. but the vision included a 350, just for the bore size and cylinder head selection. keep me posted on what you end up doing.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
find genIV 4.8 rods (factory floating and proper length), use 4.8 block and crank, bore to 3.898", then put a stock replacement ls1 type piston on it (or a domed one for that matter) just get it setup for a factory rod length. it's definitely a mix and match of parts, but on paper it'll work. i don't know of anyone that's done it yet though. it's technically a 5.1L but not sure anyone would question it.
#813
Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
yes, the difference is made up in the rod length. unfortunately, there are no shelf 6.275" rods, so you're limited to the stock rods. cool thing is, they're proven to handle some pretty serious abuse so that's not something i'd worry about too much.

me too! although it'd have to wait til after school and me having alot better job
i saved this in word, so i'll always have it here i thought i was the only one crazy enough to want a modern ls engine, yet it to still be 5 liters for correctness in my head

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
My 4.8 that I will be using is a 2009 model with 243 head from my 94 gmc. I will not be doing anything more than cam, pushrods and spring though. Set the reb limiter to 7800 and let it eat. Have seen enough 99-2004 4.8s do it with the older rods that were not as good. If it let go, is just go get another from the scrap yard!

The truck? It is nothing special. Just a carbed 4.8. Have whooped some 6.0 and 6.2 Chevy truck because it weighs so much less.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
The motor came with 9.2 to 1 its a create motor. I just swapped the heads and yes. Its sbc running 8.5 to 1 & lower. And it runs fine. I didn't want to but new pistons, and reblueprint the motor.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
Why so much hate tyler. My cam is made for stock tpi cars and its perfect for stock stall speed. And I said its 9.25 to 1. I'm looking into a t56 swap for my trans but want something bigger than the 3.27 gears. I made this motor to be reliable. The spray is for racing. Your dislike for me u can keep I'm sure u are much older. Chill out, u don't like me or 305 move on. What's your current set up. It runs and sounds good.

u aint the sharpest tool in the shed, my friends and i still get laughs from you trying to offer me 800 bucks for my 383 plus a payment plan. u sound ignorant a majority of the time. your car didnt run right so you must notve done something right and not awhole lot adds up with you when your telling a story.
your 305 was a piece until it was beating ls1 and lt1 cars likely by people who didnt know how to drive, i know people in that whole 7 mile street race area, they know your car, its nothing spectacular from what im hearing, seeing on video etc.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
They don't know me in the "7 mile area" because there is NO STREET RACING over there. My rockers was not adjusted. U still mad about some last year stuff. I didn't buy it so what some one did. Get over it and I said they was bad drivers 100 times. But if your car run as fast as your mouth u should beat me real bad. Will u be at the M&G this year, I would love to meet you I bet u are a cool guy, just a lot of misunderstanding over the web.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
I can't believe this is still going.
I read the first few pages and last few pages, who the hell has the time to read em all?
I guess I shoulda swapped in an LB9 instead of my little 376 engine
Got some good laughs outta this thread tho. But my main question is, why mod the 305 still? It's my opinion but I just don't see it's worth it when bigger displacement is so cheap now days. Hell, I have two 350 SBC engines sitting in the shed. Same with a 327. We have no use for them at all anymore.

everyone still arguing about a 14 second built 305?
I remember my first 305, thought it was a rocket ship. I was coming from a 6 cylinder 3.8 carbed g body.
Then I got a ride in a stock lt1 car. Lol

Oh there are cars running the 7 mile area you just have to know when. Real ones like 7 and 8 sec monsters
Detroit has some of the fastest street cars around, period. Real street racing .
If youre going LSx go as big as you can just tell them its a 4.8. They look the same why go small?
