Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
And you'd get crushed around the track by a 350 car because of those little straights, not to mention the fact that the 350 car will have better suspension and gear ratio over a 305 TBI base model and beat you around the turns too.
A 305 TBI is a ticket to nothing but the showing of a 350's taillights, plus 90% of the rest of the cars/trucks on the road today, lol. Doesn't matter if it is auto X, 1/4 mile, or a trip to the store, you'll always be behind. You can all defend your little 5.0's until your blue in the face, but facts are facts, and mod for mod, the 350 is going to win once the talking stops, and the driving begins.

awww man, i'm gonna do it....
i'll agree mod for mod the 350 will be faster, but all this trash talking about 305's....
budfreak, that's all that 350 and subbie did in the 1/4?

This just in.
The new 2014 Ford Fiesta ST comes with a turbo charged 197hp in a 2500lb package with 6spd manual.
TBI now gets to get stomped by a FIESTA.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
I enjoy this thread , I love all the 350 guys telling the 305 guys that our engine is a slow piece of cr-p.
It must be that the 305 , Is one of the very few they can call slow . Sure , I'd like a 350 in mine , But i'm not going to lower the value of the car to put one in.
If i want to go fast , I'll drive my stock 4 banger.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
No 327 came out 5 years b4 350 but a 327 has a 4 inch bore and a 3.25 stroke and a 350 has a 4 inch bore and a 3.48 stroke. Like said b4 destroked 350. First year for 327 was 62 and 350 was 67. Where did yall get your info from.

Yet at the end of the day, its still a flex. Would rather drive a Lb9/t5 even if it was slower over a fast flex...

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
I'm sure with turbos and N02 a 305 can be faster. And it was not that fast, a stock ss 6spd can do high 13s if u don't shift it at the right point. A 2500 rpm clutch dump off the line will all most stall out. If u don't know how to race them they can be very slow. That's how I won my race, bad drivers.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
Lb9's are 80's tech, good for their time and intended purpose. Cheap easy torque, decent fuel economy etc. My wifes 1987 Volvo Station wagon makes 200hp (turbo 4 with 13 lbs of boost) but its not the same. The wagon is quicker in the 1/4 but I still prefer my 305's throttle response, off idle torque and great sound through the single flowmaster. It's not always about all out performance but how it makes you feel driving it.
I always preferred my Harley to my faster motorcycles for the same reasons.

But a 305 can run mid 12s with power adders. A geo 3 banger can do so also

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
The GTA time was obtained on one single run. I never got another shot at it, so I didn't get to learn anything and use it. I was in a DA of 1729, only left the line at 1,000 RPM, granny shifted by 500 RPM, and need tune work. So yes, it can do better.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
All and just about any SBC can be built to be "Fast". Remember everyones opinion of fast can also be very different. And cubic inches alone dont make any car fast. It depends how a car is setup. There are AutoX cars with the LB9/T-5 combo that absolutely rock on the track, and take LS1 cars all day. Those same cars would get smoked in a 1/4 mile race against the LS1 car. I set up my 305 LB9 Thirdgen to be a stoplight warrior. The right cam, modded TPI, Built tranny, Stall, Gears, Boost, Exhaust and killer suspension. I wouldnt hesitate to run any car stoplight to stoplight or 1/8 mile. Ive stomped 350's, LT1's, LS1's, 5.0 stangs, Rice. You name it. But thats how I setup my car. For Long island light to light street racing. So it all depends on setup and purpose to determine a "Fast" car!
And IMO if you have a fast 350. And youre car is still a whopping POS. Its still a POS! Id rather own a nice car like "Im The Batman" or another nice example of a Thirdgen. There are some really nice cars on these boards with 305's. Theres even some insane fast cars on here with the Godly LSX drivetrains. But most of them are hacked up sh*t boxes, maybe worth as much as $800 on a good day. Id rather have a nice, clean Thirdgen that ran 13's or 14's than a hacked up ugly bondo covered POS. But there's also some LSX swapped cars here, that are done right, and tasteful. Like a Hawks Thirdgen car. So what im trying to ramble on and say. Its about individual car. And whats its used for. So if youre a member here, you should appreciate all nice Thirdgens on here. As long as it has a V8 or TTA..

I have grown to love this car. And will enjoy it this summer. And it will stay stock.

I see the humor in it, if you really stop and think about it a 12.6 would take down most Ls1 corvettes too... especially if the van gets the jump.

A stock ls1 swaped 3rd gen with pipes and tune (the minimum for the swap) will run that but could cost 5k lol. Its a kool van would take road trips in it.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
Well, I did it! After reading this post end to end, I went out just a minute ago and set my 92 G92, Z03, LB9, MN5 car on fire. Yep, I could not bear the thought of possibly getting my *** beat by a van, Flex, go cart, etc., and I simply didn't have the time to install a 350 to make everything better! In reality, the old girl is still capable of ripping off mid 14's in the mid 90's mph. I have way faster cars in my stable--02 Z06, 06 Viper coupe, 87 GN, and a 72 GS455. However, none are more fun than the Z28. In fact, it is most similar to the Viper in terms of fun to drive, and that is saying plenty. I have owned and sold 2 other 3rd gen Z cars, one a few years ago, and my first 30 years ago. I also owned and sold 98, and 00 Z28's, too. I do not have to make excuses for this 92. It is still a great car, all out speed be damned. Thanks.

Re: 305 LB9 are slow bull
Alot of ppl assume everyone is intake/exhaust/bolt ons
I had a mach1 go on to tell me how my car and his car was a drivers race. He always put at least a fender or car length on ls1 fbodies. i put about 2 buses on him.
And that was just a street run. On street tires. Not even on dr. No im not stock, who the hell is nowadays
But i guess on the other hand i helped a friend install cams/clutch/headers/bolt ons on his bullit mustang. I beat a cammed bolt ons ls1 z28 pretty good every single run. Me drivin the bullit. Both cars were manual. I beat him from dig and roll with less hp.
Smaller ci motor,etc.
I just assume everyone sandbags, so thats why i come prep with as much hp as possible
