Car: 1989 TransAm GTA
Engine: One sweet modified 355 TPI.
Transmission: The kind that shifts....
135mph at ~4,100rpms. 3.27 gears, 700r4 in 4th gear(.70) on 245/50/16zr tires.
I still had about 400rpms left and felt like it was time to slow down. Yeah, I heard the engine but the ride was smooth as butter, probably just as slippery at that speed too. Ain't never gonna go that fast again unless the cops condone it in writing.

my 87 Iroc topped out at 120 the other day cruizing home at 3am on I-75 its all stock the governor kicked on i guess but a buddy of mine had a turbo talon and we ran down I-70 at 140 in my 88 tbi which i just found out upon stripping it that its not an 88 motor! it's 86 or below the valve covers told me and its got a chip i think. it says super chip on it but that might be stock i don't know

I just took my car for a spin and with the 3.42 gears I got up to 217mph.
Oh wait, that must have been a dream, since my motor isn't together.

I personally am finding it a little hard to believe most of you have gone 160mph and even more so with 305's.
You can go 160 with less than 350 horsepower. it takes the right suspension, and gearing, (no 305's with T-56 and 2.73 I know of...) but it can be done.
to get from 140 to 160 is harder than getting from 120 to 140 though, at that speed the wind resistance is pretty tough I would think.

I am not basing this on trying to estimate how far the speedometer is pegged out, but by real math, so laugh all you want. If the poor motor wasn't on its last leg, I'd wind it up to 6k. That equates to about 150 mph, but more than likely the drag would limit that I'm sure. Now who can beat that with similar power to weight?

Thats it for now. I'm probably going to get warnings from the mods, countless flames, maybe a death threat or two.
Am I a *******? Yes.
Am I in a bad mood? Yes.
Am I a liar? No.
Do I let them slide? No.

(I think) The powerband of your supposedly stock 305 TPI and your claims dont add up.
The only gear you can perform that speed is 5th. On a T-56. thats .74. You would have to hit 5k RPM's on it. I am not 100% sure on how the 305's powerband, but TPI's are known to lose alot of power around 4500. Pulling around 500 rpms higher at that speed is damn near inpossible for that motor to accomplish.

pegged 145 speedo, 2.77 rear, valves floating ~5500RPM.
speed is scary.
since I went to 3.42 rear I havnt gone over 100. probably would max out at around 140-135

that cant be right because im 1:1 (no overdrive) and at 5K im doing 160 MPH with stock gearing 2.77
.74 is about the same final ratio of the 700R4 also, so if people say they have 700R4 in 4th gear doing 5K thats well over 160 MPH with 2.73 gears i would think. use the little gearing tool thing on thirdgen.org.
ah but i also have 29" tall tires which makes my 2.77 like a 2.42 so that may be a factor for me too...

i've had my 5 speed up to 110
i've had my z up to 85
the quickest i've ever gotten up to speed in a vehicle would have to be my friend's 82 s10 with a 406 in it. i'm guessing 0-60 in about 4 or 5 seconds.

This is a quick video of me racing a 72 Chevelle on the highway.
We went from a 65mph roll. I hit my brakes at 130mph.
I didn't want to go too fast with traffic around me.

My car was in limp home mode and was running very rich.
Most of the smoke you saw was oil burning off of my headers and exhaust from an oil passage in the block where one of the bolts for the smog pump bracket was. Only leaked at high rpm.
I also gave my friend the kick since I didn't want to haul *** down the highway by myself.

fast
Had the 305 RS doing 112 tonight when the speed limiter kicked in. Chip should solve that pesky problem later this week.
This past fall I had my F-250 Powerstroke doing 119. I was using my GPS to check the speed since the speedo in that truck only goes to 85. Talk about scary!!! Lifted truck with 35's makes you pucker above 100.

Well, with the new chip in ridding me of that pesky speed limiter, my gps said 129 today before I run out of room. I'm not really sure it had anymore then that anyways. I need more power.

I'm sitting here wondering how accurate the camaro tachometers are. I know Ford Mustang ones are as bad as 1000rpm out. When people tell me their stang went 160+, I'm the first to call BS. 150 is the absolute maximum for stock mustangs, that's overrevving in 4th, with 2.73 rear gear I believe. The GT hatches are limited to prehaps 145, as the GFX actually cause more drag, especially the rear bumper cover. It is like a parachute. The GT vert is around the same.
The problem is that 5th gear is to high for the stock rear gears. Stock stangs slow down on the 4-5 shift. My stang has 3.55's, and I hit top speed in 5th. I have gone over the edge of my 140mph speedo.
So, are camaro tachs accurate?

i have hit 125, i wasnt scared of the speed, its exhilarating, maybe im just a dumb teen but whatever. the car was definately still pulling like a bat out of hell and then i stopped cuz i was drivin on dry rotted tires, ive done 120 many times, it was my first time to hit 125 and the last, slowed down to take my exit, the back started to go side to side switchin lanes and then into the turn the back end got around on me, i got it straight but had to turn and it came back around on me again and i went over the curb into a few bushes and bent the frame on the b*tch, damn unibodys......on my 88 i havent driven it yet(insurance tomorrow, plates and new trans go on wednesday(TIME TO FIND OUT). besides i hear our cars arent the greatest at high speeds so i guess ill think twice about doin it again

I tell people I went 151 because there is a mark where 150 would be on the B4C and it was actually where the 155 mark would be if there was one. since it was above the 150 mark instead of getting in a big arguement with people I tell them that I went 151. The car was way stock has a steel driveshaft (vibrating) and tires needed balanced (worn). I think with the new motor higher speeds would be possible (if I was that crazy)

Worn tires DO have a slightely smaller diameter. That makes your speedo read slightely higher than you are really going, if the speedos are even accurate. I geuss the only real way to know how fast you are going is to use a laser-radar, or time yourself between mileposts.
So many things effect the accuracy of speedometers.

when I worked for Aamco a supplier from denver shipped us the wrong part. We often drove this route to this parts house so we knew the mileage (I cant remember anymore what the mileage is somewhere around 260 miles round trip). The customer was beyond "antsy" about getting his car back and my boss aked me to go get it as quick as I could (famous last words-heh) This was when I had the EFI 415 in my old 82 Z28. I called the place and they said they would have the part waiting for me. I told my follow employees here to time me when I left. When I got there they didnt believe I was the same guy that had called from cheyenne. When I crossed the state line back from colorado to Wyoming the speedo broke from the needle bouncing off the peg for so long. According to the clock, my average speed to complete the trip was 128 MPH, it was measured from when I left the lot until when I returned. It is the Aamco in cheyenne and all the employees that were there then - that are still working there now can verify it (I dont work there anymore).

You calling my post crap?
You said worn tires....that can easily be 1/4 of an inch.
I didn't know they were copcar - certified thanks, I've learned another thing about camaros. I'm new here.

Drove a 77 Monte past 130 and landed in a corn field. That car ended up in the junk yard.
Drove a 89 Dodge Omni 75mph through a Porch.
Drove my 88 Camaro well past 140mph on a trip to Flordia. Fell asleep at the wheel and slowed down. Woke up to a cop tappin on the window. Not because of the speeding but sleeping with the keys in the ignition.
Drive my 84 T/A well over 100mph daily on lunch runs from base.
I've only had the driver's license takin away once for too many points. LOL
Nice to meet all of ya,
Danimal

Why do people get scared?....Because last week I was in my firends monte carlo and he was doing 110(nothing compared to 150) and he tried to change lanes because were coming up to fast on a car in front of us. I the car lost control we did a friggin 360 and the car ALMOST flipped. Thats why.

C4...
1st - 2.46
2nd - 1.46
3rd - 1.00
no OD, just a 3 speed automatic and I know I wasn't doing 140...probably doing about 125 tops

Do you have a lockup torque converter? The only thing I can think of would be the torque converter was slipping slightly because with 4.10's and 28 inch tires at 1:1 ratio at 6800 rpm's you should have been going about 140.

non lockup...i know with a 26" tire, it was going through the traps off the rev limiter at 109 - 110 mph at 6250 rpm whereas the calculations said it should have been doing 115 @ 6250
