V8 rangers/S10s?

There seems to be quite a few V8 minitrucks emerging this summer, how worried should I be about racing them?
I know from a stoplight I should have the edge with traction, but how much lighter are these trucks compared to us?

They aren't much lighter, but one thing you have to worry about is the fact that you know that these guys/girls have spent lots of $$$$ on engine swaps so obviously theyre gonna have some pretty tricked out setups under the hood!

I have a friend who has a beat up S-10 with a an almost stock (he has custom exhaust) 305 and he runs 14.5's consistently (at Muncie). I'd say watch out, cause you'll more than likely get beat. My friend's truck whipped me up one side and down the other, and it wasn't pretty, so be careful.

I say it's time for more goodies .
If you feel a threat, get more power yourself. If you have vortec heads like me then I'd say get 3.73 posi. That'll help a LOT off the line. I plan on keeping a mild cam but I want ALL the power I can squeeze of of this. An 8" damper and heavy flexplate will help. Also promag rockers and a roller cam/setup would definatly get 10hp. What intake system do you have?
If a mini truck pulls up and you think it's got a v8....ASK. If he says yeah and explains a little with no hesitation then race him, have some fun. You loose you loose, so what. I'd rather loose to a v8 compact truck than a ford.

There seem to be more and more V8 S10's around here. Some are pretty darn quick. Low 12's on motor alone. They will move with the right motor in them....

This guy my cousin knows had an older S-10(mid-late 80's) and it had a monster of a 406 sbc in it. This thing sounded AWESOME! It pulled up beside my cousin's car and I could feel it shaking and rumbling. It sounded like my dad's street stock racing engine! He had 4 mustang stickers turned upside down in has back window!

everyone has these heads!
I'm running a carb setup, edel performer rpm
my times are weak, and I already have 3.73s in the back!
I just ordered a powertrax so we will see if I can knock another half second off that time.
my mph seems low to me as well though.

My question is, how well can these minitrucks launch with their stock suspension?

I'm thinkin, even if im overpowered, I should still be able to get them off the line and then hopefully hold him off, (once I get my locker) if all he has is a posi.
even if he has some trick suspension, their weight ratio is like 70/30!

me and my friend are thinking of buying 2 wrecked s-10's(one regular cab, one extended) graft the two together at the begining of the bed and use the extended cab part to house a blown 540 in the bed. we'd then take the engine compartment and put in 2 fuel cells(one filled with gas and the other with nos)whad'ya think? that whoop some ****....heh heh heh we couldnt figure out wether or not to build it into a monster truck with some 54" tires or into a drag truck.......

What???? nitrous goes in a bottle, not in a fuel cell. And it's N2O, not NOS. NOS is a company, N2O is nitrous.

The do ok, but you'll need to at least add a locker, take a leaf or two out of the back to help it squat during hard launches. Then not to mention you'll need ET Streets.
I like the Vortec heads, but for an all out HP motor I personally wouldn't use them. Look towards and aftermarket head.

i have a 99 ranger and am a member at rangerforum.com. there are a lot of entusiasts there and they feel the same way about ricers as the camaro owners. i myself am trying to save enough money to do a 5.0 swap in my ranger.

I used to have a 86 S-10 with a TPI 305 in it with a 700R4 and 3.73 posi.

The truck was lowered, had ground effects and a cap, but otherwise was a bare-bones model. It went 14.50's and got 27 MPG on the highway.

A guy here in Detroit used to have an S-10 with a small block, powerglide, and a 9" with 4.56 gears and it went high 9's on a 150HP N2O.

These little trucks are awesome. I'd recommend one to anyone thinking of owning/building one.
