Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

my oh s**t story still makes me leery of fiberglass hoods lol

my 91 trans had new harwood(iirc) bolt on cowl hood at time. I was flying down highway at roughly 120.....i was running late to work when hood for some reason separated and smashed windshield.

The majority of the hood actually came off the car and flew over the hatch.

Next time im using hood pins lol

Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

Well, I have 2 stories really..

1. In my senior year of HS i was driving my parents Mountaineer home from school and narrowly escaped a 5 car rear end pile up. lmao, i swerved left into the turning lane and watched the whole accident in my rear view mirror (women can't drive). Definitely got lucky.

2. I had a friend help me patch water leak holes in the windshield cowl and the heat from the welding started igniting the sound insulation in the interior. We pulled out the whole dashboard in minutes and put out the burning sound insulation..luckily the car never went on fire, or burned through any plastic or wiring. Could have easily lost the car that day. Next day, I put comprehensive insurance on!

Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

Doing the roof isnt the bad at all to do if you got a good donor car to steal it from. The front end damage can easily be swapped out and hopefully the rad support and front suspension wasnt affected.I have a friend with a complete 87 iroc roof with ttops laying around because the rest of the bottom half of the car literally rotted off from the body lol.A good body man can do the roof nicely if he knows where to make the proper seemless welds. There has been much worse cars on here brought back to life, mine included.

Lol I thought about it but it wasnt really worth it the body was great but the chassis and subframes were just about toast anyway, i gave it to a guy who has a hard full of junk cars. Been sittin for almost 3 years. I like my z28 just as much except for the gauges 90-92 look way better in my opinion.

Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

i've got a few...

One was when a friend of mine was driving my full size dodge to school with my as the passenger a little over a year ago. As we were pulling into senior parking lot we saw a seagull mucnhin on some McDonald scraps. He decides to go about 40 MPH through the parking lot to hit it, then when he went to hit the brakes we realized that slight abs problem i had been having caused us to not have any brakes at all... sending us flyin off the little banking over the state trail and into the trees sending my new tires in the bed flying up over the cab about 30 feet into the woods. ohhhhhh...... hahaha.

Another was about a year before that one when i first got my license and was driving a chevy tracker, that same friend convinced me to try to do some donuts in that same parking lot that just had some fresh snow fall on it. So as i pull in i give her hell and she kicks out sideways... when i look over i notice this top heavy tracker is going sideways directly at the little dip in the ground with the drain cover. I got lucky and somehow skidded right over it, but that didnt make it any less scary haha.

And one last one was again... with that same friend in that same parking lot. He was driving his lifted ford ranger and we had all convinced him to do a burnout while i was riding with him, after he did a cute little burnout and a couple of cyclones we went over to crawl the snow bank behind the telephone poll... which he did at a slightly faster rate of speed than was recommended so the snowbank tossed us right into the telephone poll, also putting me in a different seat than i started in and caving in half of his drivers side bed.

Ill just say that that "friend" of mine has since been declared a bad influence and an idiot hahaha, ever since i stopped hangin out with him i havent really had all that many oh ***t moments thank god!

what's Amazing is that the ops let this thread live while I have tried to start a thread abt "your favorite memory about a third gen" and they tell me I can't cause this board is only for tech stuff... yet these threads are the most popular. and heck this one doesn't even have to be Abt a third gen

Had a woman that works at my school back into my 86 Bird as I was pulling out of the parking lot. Had to get it written off and that's how I ended up getting my 89 GTA.

Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

Had my moment today, i just dropped off one of my friends in my 85 trans am with a little 305 in it at his and when i pulled out onto the main road i decided it would be fun to to mash the throttle did a complete 360 luckily nobody was around. The road was wet and there was a little bit of gravel on it. It was pretty scary, then about 30 seconds later all the buses from school went past me woulda really sucked if that happened in front of them

Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

I hear so many stories about racing and going over 100, so how can you do it without being caught? I'd be scared to do it here in Georgia.

Maybe I'm just naive and people actually do it all the time.

Still wonder how some of you don't run across a cop, much less get caught...

when was the last time you drove on the interstate, honestly i commute everyday atleast 40 miles round trip and noone does anything anywhere near 65 except me i do 70, in the slow lane and get passed, and i dont mean slowly passed over a few mins, i mean people fly by me like im standing still, and i just cant help but go "are you f*cking serious, i'm on the highway in my camaro, and some stupid women in a kia sportage just blew me away" there needs to be some serious policing of speed limit laws in belmont county

Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

Ok ive got a few to share, not looking to win any awards for them but i can pitch them in haha

1st - Was driving my old 91' RS, it was near halloween and i had my girlfriend at the time in the car, and my two good friends in the back seats. We were going down a back road back in the forest on our way back from making a jack-o-lantern with a less than flattering body part on it and leaving it burning like a beacon of hope in a graveyard where all the "cool kids" hung out around halloween haha, anywayyy. I was driving, wasnt speeding too bad, maybe 15 over (wasnt too bad, the speed limit was obviously put in place in the 60s with 60s cars in mind). A z-curve comes up so i brake ahead of time..nothin..one of those "erm, uh oh" moments. i keep pressing the brakes, finally they catch and stick, i skid to a stop right at the edge of a 7 or 8 foot drop off, no idea how my tires werent off the edge, we all sat there quiet for a few seconds before i shove it in reverse and jam it haha. I figure a couple rock chips is nothing versus diving into that drop off. Needless to say i drove under the speed limit the whole way home.

2nd - On my way to school one morning a deer charged my car. Weirdest thing ever. He basically threw himself at my RS. Luckily all that happened was he bounced his jaw off my hood and rolled away. My sister in the car was saying "omg check and see if hes okay" and my response was "if he is hes not gonna be soon!" lmao. Stepping out of the car ready to engage in gladiatorial battle with this deer, images of a Mortal Kombat-esque scene running through my head..fortunately he was fine and had darted off already lmao. Car, also fine, not even a dent. No harm no foul i guess lol

3rd - Also in the RS with the same girlfriend as the 1st story, we were actually on our way to collect the pumpkin from the first story (in hindsight, there were probly way too many occasions where i shouldve wrecked my car in that one-week or so period LOL). Along a long straight stretch of backroad, i decide to jam it and show off/find out for myself what my car can do. I hit about 90, then i hit a small bump in the road. A bump that i didnt think much of driving over it at 40, but 90 was a much different situation. Airborn for maybe 20-30 feet, landed fine except my tilt-wheel was broke (once it dropped below a certain point the column went limp, so i kept it at the lowest locking point before that) well the tilt broke loose and the wheel went limp in my lap haha. I kept the car straight with a limp column while braking gradually, clicked my column back into place, and of course played it off like i was a BA stuntman xD

Thats all i can think of at the moment. A few months later a kid with an LT1 4th gen T/A rolled his car on that forested backroad from my 1st story. To the car's defense though, the kid was a moron and the last person id want showing off while i was in the passenger seat lol. Nobody got hurt but i heard the passenger flew out of the T-top opening lol

Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

Oh man and i just remembered when i got my RS stuck accidentally backing over a fresh tree stump >_< and got it stuck in the mud at another girlfriends house who's **** step-dad was gone for the night (literally, house riddled with 3rd-reich memorabilia and me with a black t-shirt with a giant american flag on it, tearing up his yard with my peg-leg camaro LOL). Come to think of it there were a lot of times non-posi got me in trouble. One of the reasons i got rid of that RS. Posi is the best thing that ever happened to me lol

And a 4th story where i hit the gas a little too hard in the rain at a 3-way stoplight. Did a complete 180 in the intersection and while spinning i threw it in reverse and backed straight into the entrance to a gas station. I felt like such a BA driver haha. Mostly luck but hey, i get to have my fun =P

Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

When I first got the car it had bald tires on it. Well, on the way home we were going through a pretty curvy road and there is this one turn that is a 25 mph U-Turn, my mom's subaru handles it at 60 mph, so I figured 40 in the Camaro would be ok....Well, it wasn't and I slid when I was coming out of the turn and I had a river to my right and a small ditch to my left, So of course I went through traffic to the ditch. I slightly bent a wheel, but they are already beat to sh** from previous owners anyway. And I also unintentionally drifted an intersection when it was raining....Thank god there were no cops around lol!

I SO know what you mean. My dad refuses to drive faster than 70 (legal speed limit for highways here) and people FLY past us. It's mostly stuck up guys in their pickups and soccer moms on their freaking cell phones. I see people going 90 and the legal speed limit ANYWHERE in this state is 85.

You're right. I never thought about it like that, but speeding is not enforced that much.

Re: Post your "Holy ***T" moments lol

I've had a couple.

1. I was driving to the bowling alley for Thursday league around October 1999. The road I took was an undeveloped service road behind the alley that had a 90 deg right turn. I could take the turn at a good speed and dirt track it coming out. Well this time I was way to fast, I hit the brakes nothing. So I started down gearing still going to enter to fast. I tried to put it in second wouldn't go so I forced it. I broke the tranny just after it slowed enough. Wheels locked up and wheel hopping. Made the turn but I had to double clutch to get it into 2nd after that.

The second moment I had to go to Charlotte where I worked one night in January of 2000. I had my little brother in the car he was 12 at the time. I'm going 65 mph on I-85 when the car dropped in the right rear and took a hard left turn. As the car did a 180 my brother goes that's your wheel rolling in front of us, just as I backed it into the wall. Totaled the back of the car from the axle back. After I had the car towed 65 miles home. I was able to check the axle, it looked like it was cut with a laser it was so smooth from where it broke. I think the first caused the second.
