LS1s are ALL around 340-350HP despite what the advertisers at GM would have you believe. If you think a base LS1 Z28 only has 305HP, I have a bridge to sell you...

Re: can I hang with my buddys -stock- ls1 TA?
Im still going to the track but after I fix this problem.
At WOT in 3rd around 3800 ish the revs kinda hang or slow down and about 2 ish seconds later itll go past 4K -then- itll rev fine.
I have changed plugs and wires not all at the same time thought but the front 4 then a weeks later then back 4 but this was all alil while back.
Im going to get an MSD replacement coil soon and hope that fixes it, but I may try a new cap as well. (all this stuff still looks new btw)
I think thats it for now.

I agreed that if the 3rdGen is sorted out, it would beat the LS1. However, there still seems to be some folks that could use some friendly advice on what LS1 cars can do.

They call the LT1 a generation 2 small block. But honestly I think its more like Gen 1.5. It has improved head flow, an intake better suited to a 350ci motor, the PCM is more advanced as well. But ultimately the rotating assembly and head design is just about identical.
The LS1 was the first of a truly new generation of small blocks. A clean sheet design and it shows.
If I didn't already have the LT1 in my car I'd swap a 5.3L in a heartbeat.

(sigh) If/when my L98 craps out, it will be serious decision-making time...

Yes, I would stay with aluminum if I could help it. The weight loss would be great for handling. Its one of the reasons I didn't go 5.3L was because I wanted it to be an aluminum block when I did. The prices will only come down later. Swaps will get cheaper and I can make the power I want out of my LT1.

A 5.3L doesn't give up much in terms of power over a LS1. In fact, the later ones make as much power as a LS1 did, or more in some cases. Plenty of 5.3L are putting down darn near 290rwhp with just a tune. One of the guys at work has a 5.3L in his truck with a dyno tune and its making 284rwhp. Stock everything with the exception of the tune.

LS1s are still reasonably common/inexpensive though, especially if you aren't in a hurry. I like the extra cubes, all aluminum, usually come with the right intake and accessory-drive and perform well as a stroker 382. They should dyno around 280ish+ rwhp out of the box, which can scoot a 32-3400lb 3rdGen into the 12s with no other changes.
Anyways, either option is great and will be a tough choice when the time comes. Heck, I might just build the L98 to make things interesting...

I pushed my track date back another week, to keep an eye on some odd things that the motor does occasionally (not spray related....havent juiced in like a month. Plus i started saving for my 5.3 swap.
