Chevy Camaro Iroc-Z vs Chevy Aveo
Hey,
I don't know if you guys remember my last thread...https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/theo...hevy-aveo.html
but I lost to a Chevy Aveo a while back in my 2.8 Firebird.
I have an Iroc now (305 TPI) with minor mods like a new exhaust, headers, cam.
This guy with the suped up Aveo has seen me in the Iroc and revs his little fart cannon aveo at me everytime he sees me (lives right on my street). I think he wants to race me again...will I win finally? I don't know what mods he has done to the aveo, but it has a body kit, wing, and it's been lowered...can they supercharge their engines or something?
Thanks
(btw, when I lost in the 2.8, it was by very little. He took the lead right after we took off, but I wasn't too far back)

i think you would toast him. i really doubt he even has anything really dont to it probaly just the usual r1cer. i really doubt it has even any power wise mods dont to it let alone a power adder since it would probaly still be under warrenty and i would think the engine would blow fast.

With the 305tpi and hoping you have posi. You should win this time around. You got alot more torque of the line then the 2.8 had lol..as long as you get him off the line you should keep a steady jump ahead of him.get out and do some practice launches now that you got the torque behind you.

I'm pretty sure Aveos run in the 17 second range, while a stock 86 Iroc with TPI runs mid 15s.....

Re: Chevy Camaro Iroc-Z vs Chevy Aveo
So.......have you raced him yet?
Seriously, the old Aveo runs 17s, and the new one, as far as I know, has the same amount of power. It looks like a bigger car too.
Your Iroc is a mid 15 second car, stock. Depending on the cam, your mods may even have you into the high 14 second range. It's running on all cylinders, correct? He probably thinks you had a V8 in the last car, making him feel pretty good about his new air intake and fart cannon. Go take him down a peg!
I have the 190hp LB9 just like you, only I just have headers. Before I had the headers, I raced an early 2000 range Civic on the freeway and it wasn't even really a race. That's nothing to brag about lol, but those are a bit faster than the Aveos are. My car also had other issues then.

Re: Chevy Camaro Iroc-Z vs Chevy Aveo
When my 85 LB9 was stock (down to the exhaust), it was running with a Cobalt SS. Granted, it was pretty even, but I'm resonable certain that a Cobalt SS is faster then an Aveo, and with your upgrades, it would tilt heavily in your favor.

Re: Chevy Camaro Iroc-Z vs Chevy Aveo
Well we also have to understand that the cobalt SS had 2 different engines. 05-07 was Supercharged making 205 HP at crank. 08-10 is Turbocharged making 260 HP and 260 TQ at crank. Id like to see your car keep with my 08 SS. Dont get me wrong i love camaros and i still have mine garaged but this thing beats the hell out of it

If you worry about beating an aveo or anything like it, you need to not worry about racing till you have an engine that can push your car fast enough to worry about beating other modern V8 and boosted 4s, 6s.

Re: Chevy Camaro Iroc-Z vs Chevy Aveo
I had an Aveo for a week as a rental car one NY winter. Oh man what a nightmare that car was. I hated every second driving that car. Not because it was slow, moreso because it just felt like I was being jostled around the road by any bit of slush that I hit. I could feel the car literally shifting in its lane. Reminded me of hitting major windshear on a full fairing bike when you weren't paying attention.

BTW guys,
I spoke to yellow aveo's sister and asked where he's been....She said he's still here, but got a DUI and lost his license for a year LOL.
Won't be seeing Aveo for a while.

Hmm, you upgraded to an IROC, and he downgraded to a bicycle? If you see him walking/riding, rev your engine and ask to race! Thats called karma.

Reminds me of the time I pulled out of my neighborhood and some kid on a pedal bike yelled "I hate your car!". I turned around through a side street and came out behind him and when I passed him I yelled "I hate your bike!". The kid just about ditched the bike it scared him so much... hehehehhee stupid kids...

I agree, I know I got my *** kicked by a 5.0 a few weeks ago (half a car length), after bogging on the launch but an aveo? Is it really getting that bad guys?

Re: Chevy Camaro Iroc-Z vs Chevy Aveo
Well really, its a period specific thing, not a Camaro/Firebird specific thing. The 80's Vette's weren't all that much faster than these 3rd gens, and are terribly slow by modern standards, and the early 80's Ford 5.0 was right there with our 305 TBI.
In comparison, you also don't see the LT1/LSX crowd, either 3rd or 4th gen too worried about 4 cylinders. It has everything to do with the fact that GM thought it could do econo V8's, and built them that way and put them in muscle cars.
Cars from the last 10 years are leaps and bounds more efficient than our 3rd gens, so its valid to question whether our near antique cars can keep up with the slower modern cars. Keep in mind that an Aveo is relatively quick compared to say... a 1980's Dodge Omni or Chevy Cavalier.
