I don't get what is going on in a dude's mind when he pulls up next to me in a honda whatever model and revs at me, light turns green and no matter how hard they try they can't even come close to keeping up. I mean even at idle my car isn't very quiet with the LS1 and straight through exhaust. It's like they think a civic is some kind of race car or something. I have buddies that have modded hondas but at least they know not to try to get down on cars like mine. I just don't get why most honda owners do that it just doesn't make sense.

not all Hondas are fart tipped, stickered POS's. i ran into one at a stoplight a few weeks ago that beat me by a car length thru the top of third gear. my car is a 98 Z28 that puts down 410rwhp, so for a Honda to beat me... from a stop even... is pretty impressive
fast Hondas are out there, you just havent run into one yet

They are mostly riced out slow POS's but there are quick ones out there i agree. One of the guys i work with has a 98 Civic with an Integra Type R engine swap and he runs a 14.1. And that's an N/A 4 cylinder. That's good for the 4 cylinder world. That's in LT1 Camaro territory. I don't like the car but you gotta have respect where its due.

Man its so obvious... The whole thing in caused by all the lame a$$ fast and furious movies. These idiot kids watched it one to many times and now they think $500 in autozone acceseries makes for a fast car. You know what Im talking about? The matching flame graphic seat covers, steering wheel cover, and floor mats, euro tailights, plastic pedal covers, 747 wing, and of course the 700hp adding fart cannons. Its rediculous. Oh... I forgot to add big huge tach so you watch how slow the rpms climb.
I agree too there are some fast ones, just not sure where. Most of them are loud and obnoxious. I don't remeber where I saw or read it but, someone said basically that "horsepower makes noise, no the other way around." Now that I think about it I saw a 4dr Corsica last night with a fart tube on it, and the guy was delivery driver for Papa Johns I think.

Ricers existed before the F&F movies. I can remember quiet a few 80's cars with huge wings, fat rear tires, and v6's under the hood with lights, stickers and such. And bright neon paint jobs.
They've been around, its just they are building on something else.

Re: I just don't get it...(honda ppl)
One of my friends just got a 96 civic vtec with an air filter. Its not a very fast car but he thinks its crazy fast. I haven't had a chance to run with him, but he thinks that his car will spank mine off the start and I'll catch him on the higher end (stock 350TPI shift-kit/headers/exhaust). LOL
Ive been beaten by a honda once... I pulled up to a stoplight with an integra that looked stock (wasn't riced up). He was revving his engine lightly so I knew it was on. I stepped on it and off the line I must have gotten at least 2 car on him but out of no where he catches up and passes me like I was casually driving. But wow those cars rev so high. He sounded like he was was hitting 8+K.... then there's me with choked up 350
Although even with my setup, I've beat quite a few hondas. Its kind of exciting because sometimes you'll have more of a race than you think

The $500 kits on ebay that won't last, are enough to take an older civic and put it in the low 14s easy.
This is severely built, but i give you Cheesefrog's civic.

Even then sadly no one around here besides I think one have actually thought about it and have installed a system like that. I have a friend that I have known for a while and he bs about how he has a 20B in his 80's mazda rx7 while his exterior looks like my ***.
That aside, Its sad when I have never experienced this being in my area where ricers are all over the place. When I was driving my Cam I would never see one. While I'm in my GMC Jimmy I can't keep count of them. The thing is, the ones here are mainly my people (fellow mexicans) and they don't mean any harm just the way they are. While kids my age are the real jackasses.
I have said it for a while, I wouldn't mind a hatch or civic for a dd beater. I drove a 94 Sentra 2.4l for a few weeks when I started to learn to drive and it was a good car, even when you decided to have fun in it. Sadly enough even with a stock muffler, it still had a fart cannon sound.

I wouldnt trade my RS for a Honda any day, but Im a fan of their bikes.
And the most important part - my bike is RWD. Wrong wheel drive performance is a waste of time in the big picture. It's like a road race car with a slushbox.

I agree... I had a 2006 KTM 125 that thing hauled major ***. Makes me wonder what its like to ride a 250+! I now have a 1999 yamaha banshee, and I am pretty confident that it could spank my IROC to 100km. Those quads are stupid fast...

Are you also forgetting that IROC's are also one of the BEST handling cars that GM has ever produced? They handle .92 G's on the skidpad and have a slalom speed of I believe 63.6 MPH. With 220 BHP, and the very unefficient automatic drivetrain, they achieved a top speed of 149.2 MPH.
So tell me, how the hell can it be slow by adding 100+ Horsepower, while also shedding weight with the aluminum block of the LS1?! Please make some sense....

Turbo 4 banger (props, lots of work done, and it is fast) vs Turbo El Ess Juan.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGc6LxzFW-Q
Notice the TransAm hit the brakes well before the end of the 1/4 mile. He had to stay out of the 9's because he didn't have his license yet. (Yes, you need a license to run 9s)
But even so, I wouldn't try to take the cavy in the video I posted, that car is seriously quick, his best that day was a 11.8 around 117mph.

LOL yeah, slow, right! A 2002 Camaro SS is a 3,400 pound car that does a low 13 second quarter mile with that SLOW LS1. Most low optioned IROC's are in the 3,200-3,300 pound range.

I have a cam only LQ9 swapped Formula at about 3100lbs, I've never heard it called slow, and it makes a stock LS1 seem like a gentle, smooth Prius. Now if by slow you mean having a hard time getting traction as you do a rolling burnout on street tires past most "racers"....

the biggest drifference between us (3rd gen owners) and them (R-icers) is when we get a new camaro firebird or just about any american muscle car and decide we wanna build it up and make a quick car we aim to get 10's 11's maybe even 12 second quarter mile times our first time out.. they get a new honda theyre goal is hopefully breaking into the 14's now if they get into the 12's they think they have a genuinely FAST car at least thats how most of them are... i think we just dont like em cause of how much they run theyre mouths nitrous this vtec that they need to understand we dont need to run our mouths cause our cars are better and we both know it...

I would believe it...my sled is only a 600 making 105hp and it weighs about 660 with me on it...The thing rips to 90 and gets there in a heart beat but after that it falls on its face. I raced many of my friend's cars while they were on the road and me on the grass and beat most of them. The Z06 was close from a dig to 100.

I will never go carb for any car I build that is mean to be driven on the street. Right now, swapping in a gen 3 drivetrain is probably the most efficient method of having your cake and eating it too.
New accords with the V6 would terrorize a L98 F-body on the top end, anything less than that doesn't have a chance. Maxima's, Subaru forresters.

This, sadly is the true state of affairs. The TPI motors were great for their time, but time has moved on. Being a traditional SBC, they can be made fast. The right heads/cam on them will make a world of difference. But there isn't any factory, as cast SBC head that flows as well as the newer Gen3+ heads do. So its $$$ for heads, $$$ for cam, lots more money to upgrade the intake if you want to stay FI. Or Carb if you don't care about driving it daily and hoping for decent fuel economy.

Re: I just don't get it...(honda ppl)
Yea i completely agree with you. I took out my TBI fuel injection b/c it was a huge pain to tune and went with a carb. The engine runs great and has lots of power but the everyday drive-ability of the car has gone south. I hate how i have to worry about it stalling, i have no idea how to tune a carb worth a crap either so that doesnt help. I have had ppl who have built many engines before look at it and say its fine. I'm not impressed with it, carbs are not my way of having fun driving around on the street. I think after the vette is done the Gen 1 is coming out and an LT is going in. The drive-ability of FI really is THAT much better. At least in my eyes it is...
Its too bad there isn't a budget port job like Lloyd Elliot offers for the LT1 stuff. He gets decent numbers out of those.

Ricers are into their cars just like we love ours. Most of those guys are a lot lighter than we are and some put the same time in we do. Watch the show pass time, they have ricers on there from time to time, and they run some good numbers for that class. I know I have been caught off gaurd a few times running them. It is all about fun for me.

There's differences... Ricers know nothing of their cars and just put body kits, neons, fart cans, etc onto a slow @ss car and talk smack. Tuners modify their car and ACTUALLY make if fast.. big diff. So your speaking of Tuners? not rice then?

While we're on the topic. What would the consensus be if you rolled up on this:
I'm sure a bunch of people on this forum know what it is. I'm sure some have no idea as well.

Re: I just don't get it...(honda ppl)
i bet it has an LS1. but if it rolled up next to me, i'd laugh and expect to beat it by a mile...
wait, scratch the LS1.
thats a FWD car, and by the larger front tires than rear tires, id guess its pretty fast.
in that case, BIIIIIIIIIIIIIG turbo

The average person on this board would have a huge problem taking the car. I'm not building it to go the fastest in a straight line, but the point is it looks slow aside from ugly.
Though I have a huge ball bearing turbo to throw at it here shortly.

Well it depends on what you consider "average" haha an L03 will have a problem(not a HUGE problem), but i have heard of some L03's going high 15's... 305/350TPI should have no problem with it. The Merkur's are mid 15 cars at best(car&Driver tested one that ran 15.7). Then you gotta factor in the 20+ years of worn turbo and engine none the less. Granted the 305/350 TPI motors are old too but turbo engines take a lot more abuse from the added pressure.

It's running 20 pounds, a 3 inch VAM, a FMIC, exhaust, T5, and a not stock computer to name the more basic mods. I'm not saying it's the fastest car out there, but it's not running 15.7s.
