Re: I just don't get it...(honda ppl)
There's plenty of both types of ricers out there, domestic and foreign.
My daily driver 8th gen 2008 Civic Si is bone stock, runs 14.9, and gets 32 mpg. It outperforms my 305 88 Camaro in every category, but if I were to poll 100 people in my town which of my cars was the faster one they would without a doubt pick the Camaro over my Civic.
Oddly enough, its the guys in big heavy V8 trucks that are the ricers where I live. And Cavaliers. Good lord there are a lot of them.
Frankly, I don't waste my time with any street racing. Its pointless because even if you beat someone there is always a million excuses as to why they lost and how they would have beat you if it wasn't for this, this, and that.
At the track, when the tree lights up, the bull stops there. No excuses.

MY friends 9C1 Caprice runs a 14.6 Stock and get close to 30 highway driving, city isn't that much worse. He drives forever on a tank of gas. YOur also comparing vehicles over 20 years apart. I get the same crap from a friend who drives a turbo eclipse, " my car has more hp stock than yours stock, your car is a POS" and i always say maybe so but your comparing vehicles from the emissions era to a car that is using new technology(turbos, relatively new anyways) He thinks that's an "excuse". I ask him to race now and he backs out, but every time i talk to him his eclipse gets "faster". From a 14.9 to a 14.2 (happened after i told him i ran 13's) then he sold the car and said he couldn't confirm it b/c he sold it... That's rice right there... and i agree with your last sentence.
O and there are a lot of tools in old Chevy/Ford trucks and cavaliers here also, escort Zx2's, Subarus are the new fad now also...

guys with the riceburners always make excuses i know a kid with a turbo eclipse claims his car at one point was running 450hp to the wheels when i said lets race he went on to explain how he snapped a rod bought a new jdm block added better pistons better this better that blah blah blah that should be over 500hp now but he couldnt race me because he has a sh*tty tune and a bad clutch hes had that tune and bad clutch for over a year now and still refuses to race me.... i just think its funny cause i called him out on all of it and he gave the po my cell number and had him call me to tell me how big and bad the car was and said i should stop talkin sh*t about the car all i said is tell him run me down then ill shut up havent heard from either one of em since its been a little over a month now...

Re: I just don't get it...(honda ppl)
basically long story short the car was being stored in my moms underground garage under a car cover while i was living in california well due to unforseen events i got back in december and sometime early january she decided she didnt want my car in there anymore because her boyfriend convinced her that her buick should be down there and we got into a big argument over the whole thing and i ended up having to drive my winter beater to her house and grabbing my camaro and our garage is packed to the ceiling with junk so i couldnt get it in there so there it sat in my driveway for the last two months of winter.... i tried the best i could to take care of it while it sat there i still washed it once a week whenever it snowed i brushed it off even though i wasnt driving it. it was just a shi*ty situation..

Re: I just don't get it...(honda ppl)
the older awd turbo eclipses and talons are fast especially on the street becasue they can get traction on street tires. a good friend of mine had a 91 talon in highschool and it ran high 12's low 13s with bolt ons and a boost controller

hell, a few months back, I lost to a Civic in my 410rwhp 6speed Z28. Sure, he had to have alot more in his car than I did, and while I don't particularly like imports, he still got a thumbs up from me when it was all over. You gotta respect all the work that he put into his car to make it faster than a mild heads/cam LS1

I have some interesting neighbors with ricers that stop in front of my house and rev what they call an engine and then take off and I'm like wow you beat a camaro sitting in a driveway, you must be so proud but the funny thing is when I see them out on the real street they won't challenge me.

84 & 85: non-intercooled SFI (200hp)
86 & 87: intercooled SFI (235hp in 86, 245hp in 87)
the first all black GNs started in 84, but as I mentioned before, there were a few GNs built in 82 but featured silver and black paint
check out www.turbobuick.com for more info on these cars

I personally dont like em cuz I'm out in Houston and the population of mexicans is about 80%. 5% White and 15% everything else. Not racist just most of em here are illegal and its very annoying and they get ahold of a 200$ *****, throw a K&N on it and a big ponitless wing ( FWD remember guys?) throw some vent stickers on it and claim it to be able to rape your LS1 vette camaro or trans am. sorry but where did you take integrated physics and chemistry again?

I love looking at the front ends of these cars.. theyre sniffing out the competition... but with the money they put into make those little cars faster than ours... what do you think we could do to a carbed 5.7L with 5-10G

Had 3 hondas try to tag team me saturday on the way to the UFC fight, i did the old pace them while they were WOT, then smash it and jump out a car and let off....they no longer wanted to make eye contact as usual.

i go to a tech school and get yelled at for having a third gen just because you have a system, ride an inch off the ground, got a wing, put an intake on it , and then added a fart cannon does not mean you have a race car.

ive never really seen a honda that was fast... but, i have seen some eclipses that would beat the majority of the people on this board... i saw a guy running compound turbo set up on a 4g63(mitsu engine) i think its running close to 40psi or some other really, really, high ****... and it runs in the high 8's... heres a link to the guys build thread, dont know if i'll get in trouble for posting it, but here goes http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cust...bo-set-up.html fast 4 bangers are out there...they're just few and very far between...

I admire the quick rides that are RWD or AWD, but we have american cars that do it in WAY heavier rides, and some even on pump gas.
Got a guy on LS1tech, 9.9 sec in a fox mustang, stock 6.0 with stock 6.0 heads, cam only. I just dont see any imports getting down like that. They need boost, dope, or a combo of the two. American rides can do it nasty.

Guys.....it DOES NOT take that much money to make a honda fast!!!!! When are people going to get this? I have been on both sides of the spectrum, and if anything, a honda is CHEAPER to make fast than a third gen. You can go out and buy a 90 civic hatch for like 500$. A B16 motor swap with the tranny is like 1300$. Throw an ebay turbo kit on it for 800$ and you are trapping 115 in the 1/4 mile. People need to understand this. You guys can keep telling yourself that when that honda came "screaming" by you that he had a TON of money into it to be able to beat you, but thats being a R icer in itself. All your doing is making an excuse as to why you lost. I suggest you visit a honda forum and see that most quick street driven hondas have less than $4k into them.
Sure they'll never be as well set up as a properly driven rear wheel drive V8, and over 260 HP at the wheels makes 1st and 2nd useless in a front wheel drive, but everyone needs to wake up and smell the coffee here. I have been racing on the street and on the track for 8 years now. I have a wide variety of freinds who appreciate american and japanese cars, and thier cars are ALL fast.

Re: I just don't get it...(honda ppl)
Come on now, ive never EVER seen a Civic go for anywhere close to $500 that wasnt completely rusting away and probably couldnt even been used for parts. Hondas hold their value much better than that. Doubtful that ebay turbo kit has upgraded injectors, FMU, etc required to run the kit. Its probably just a cheap turbo and hot/cold piping. Also, you didnt mention the different axles required to run the new motor/trans combo in that civic, not to mention the cost of replacing them on a weekly basis if youre gonna be running at the strip on the regular. Stock axles dont hold up well to boosted cars. Not to mention any stock motor running the amount of boost required to trap 115mph wouldnt last long. Finally, just throwing a turbo onto a Honda and cranking up the boost may get you decent trap speeds, but youre still running 13s due to FWD. Too many people heap praise on these motors for running the trap speeds they do... what theyre forgetting is that the cars the motors are in are crazy light. Put said 115mph Honda motor into a car with a thirdgens weight and watch the amazing performance disappear
Im in no way trying to bash Hondas or FWD boosted performance... Ive been racing on the streets and dragstrips longer than your 8 years and have seen what they can do. But your embelishing the truth a little bit to prove your point. Bottom line is the majority of Hondas are owned by rycers, with the minority owned by true car guys

Also, there are some engines that don't like boost, but the B series (16, 18) LOVE boost and will hold up to 10 PSI all day. That should be plenty to get you around at least a 113 trap. And saying that "if you put said motor in a 3rd gen it would be a turd" is just plain dumb. Thats like saying "if you put a stock 350 TPI in a civic instead of a heavy a$$ 3rd gen, it would haul. I get it, but thats why they are quick....weight. Plain and simple.
I'm really not trying to start any fights. I love my RWD and my car, but I just get so tired of people living in thier own world and not seeing the truth that there are fast ones, and they can be built on the cheap. Plus, making excuses in ANY street race is being a r icer yourself, whether you just got beat by a honda or not. Unfortunately, you are right in that 90% of honda owners ARE r icers and give the others a bad name. Lets not let our 3rd gen community dip to that level too saying our stock 15 and 16 second cars will destroy all hondas.

I have a wide variety of freinds who appreciate american and japanese cars, and thier cars are ALL fast.

the results of my friends efforts was a 13.79... and two months later he blew his engine...
then there is the fact that few people actually go through this.. most of them slap on a cold air, some rims, subs, caliper paint, stickers and some fugly body kit from fast and furious and a big can... those are the people pissing us off... if someone beats me in one ok cool that doesnt bother me... the people that rev their stupid little bumble bee cans at us at stoplights and cut us off to show off for their girl... those are the ones that **** us off..

Either way, a Honda to some of us is gay as hell. I ran a hatch the other day, turbo and all, missing 2nd gear in my trans before i had it rebuilt, had to leave in 3rd on a 45 roll, still murdered the turbo hatch. JUNK.

under 4k??? ok.. so heres a REAL break down of what ends up going into them... 90-99civic that is in OK condition 1000- 7000 (yeah thats right its that high go look through some listings) then if you swap your engine/trans your talking 1500+ (dont forget all forged internals), then a turbo kit.. one that you arent going to have to buy tons of extra parts for are 1500+ my friend who built a 93 si (he paid 2900 for it and it was clean) the cheapest kit he could find that he didnt have to get aditional parts for was 2300... plus how ever much he had to pay for his fuel system... then countless hours in tuning
the results of my friends efforts was a 13.79... and two months later he blew his engine...
then there is the fact that few people actually go through this.. most of them slap on a cold air, some rims, subs, caliper paint, stickers and some fugly body kit from fast and furious and a big can... those are the people pissing us off... if someone beats me in one ok cool that doesnt bother me... the people that rev their stupid little bumble bee cans at us at stoplights and cut us off to show off for their girl... those are the ones that **** us off..

Well, my 500$ third gen has a 700$ 6.0 that traps 93 in the 1/8th, that should be 118 or so i the quarter right? LOL If course there was a 200$ cam and what not in there. But in the end, i dont look like a 300$ dumba$$ getting out of a 1800 pound car right? Hahahhaha.

Well, the saying goes,"You can take junk, make it fast, then you have fast junk"
Anything can run with money, a light car doesnt need a ton of power, but the fact is they are not anything to be proud of for majority of folks here. It is like having a mustang and posting here, you will always catch hell from somewhere. We dont care about Hondas(most of us), and most think they are junk or just for getting from here to there. Nothing more. I am an American, so forts off, it is a import so i dont like it, many others here will agree, so from there it is Rice, and then it just keeps going. No reason to defend the Hondas, no one cares and most hate them.
You get me?

I get what your saying, and I don't care much for them myself. My original argument was just that they aren't expensive at all to build, and I want some people on here to understand that instead of talking with absolutely no experience. You seem like you've been around for a little while so I don't really need to explain it to you. Where I live, all cars are respected if they're fast and there are fast as hell cars from all makes and models. We have a HUGE car scene since I live right by the Berlin Turnpike which has been a car hangout since the begginning of time, so I guess I'm just not as biased as some other people on american/japanese.

stock!!! try a bored and honed 383, TPIS mini ram, hooker headers, AFR heads, cam swap, new stroker crank, new rods and pistons, the whole 8 miles and less restrictive exhaust and after cat duals. that 383 would be blasting through the quarter with IM saying at least easy 12 e.t.'s or with slicks probably mid or high 11's

And also you and your brother got good deals to say the least... because most normally cost 1000+.. that's what you gotta remember... price is relative to the build... bot you are right, its not a $10,000 deal every time someone does it like people like to think.. but it still costs quite a bit...

^That is why i dont build old SBC anymore, cam only carbed 6.0s go mid 11s to low 11s with 20 less cubes. Technology is a MFr.
I used to love the old SBCs, but i really am a big block man at heart.

Same here... I tried the SBC thing....didn't even come close to all my freinds LSx cars and modern stangs. Only way to compete with technology is to embrace it. Or have a crapload of money.

Re: I just don't get it...(honda ppl)
It all depends, technology is great but i personally think the LSxs are a bit overrated. I am building a fun LTx for my Vette that will be making 500 fwhp. LTxs arn't that much farther behind the LSx motors and the LTx motors are based on a sbc bottom end and almost the same heads minus the cooling passage. I have seen some LTx motors in the 600's for hp on the 350 cu in. I think the LSx motors are great believe me but i just feel like they are overrated. Just about every LSx guy i have ever talked to thinks they are just that much better than every other chevy out there that doesn't have an LSx motor... It would be a lot different if there was a bigblock LTx motor like the LS7...
