Thirdgen vs 2 Stangs

Well I thought I've been wanting to post this for awhile just haven't found the time till now. Happened probably 4 weeks ago or so. I hadn't quite finished getting the kinks out of my Z28 since the fall as the cold had kinda set in way to early for me to get around to it & the T/A was taking up the garage.

At the time I still had an exhaust leak at the passenger side manifold again from the back bolt backing out (its the only 1 doing that...wth lol) and had still yet to chase down my vibration in the drivetrain(turns out it was pilot bushing), and the clutch was pretty much on its last leg (2+ years old, and it was on when i bought the car for who knows how long of heavy abuse before even me).

So now its time to get down to the fun details.

On a cool, but warm Saturday night in January I was parked along our local cruise spot with a few friends. Down yonder probably 100 yards was about the only other ''club'' that really roams these streets. They are predominantly ricers with the exception of these 2 Mustangs. Its kinda a grudge match cause of the humiliation this club took from me & the woman during the fall. I really didn't want to race on this evening cause cops had been pretty thick and the 2 primary issues in the drive train, but after 30 minutes of them constantly talking trash i agreed to run on the road they always wanna run at outside of town.

We get out there and the first vehicle they line me up against is a 88 Foxbody 5.0 T-5. The arms drop and I'm gone just blowing him away. I couldn't tell if he spun much, but I was having traction issues all the way thru 3rd gear. When I crossed the line I'd say I probably had several bus lengths on him or more. He didn't want to run again.

I flip it around and run back to where the 03 Mach 1 is staging waiting to run against me. He is a T-5 as well. I figured this would be an interesting race and indeed it was. I roll up next to him and take the car up to 1400 RPM as the arms are raised & on the drop I begin rolling out. I see the Stang take a car on me from the start as I'm at his bumper. Once again I had spun horribly in 1st and 2nd. By the top of 2nd I had reeled him back in to the front wheels and halfway thru 3rd I had brought it nose to nose. When we crossed I had maybe half a fender on him but it was too close for me to tell, but thats what they said and they were the ones filming it at the finish for both races.

All in all that was a good run. My friend who was at the starting point told me that my rear slid to the right on launch & then to the right when I hit 2nd and that that Mustang just squatted and moved and didn't look like he spun much. As far as I know its exhaust only.

I haven't been able to catch them again since then on any Saturday nights for a re-match since I put in my new clutch & pilot bushing (bye bye horrible vibration) but the car feels significantly better to drive since those 2 problems have been solved. That and I want a copy of the video so i can tube it.

This spring and summer I expect a good few more run ins with this group as they will still be out in their pack & will be wanting to show off more, and all of our club will be out on the weekends.

I just got randy reading this. I drove a turbo 1987 ford EXP before I had my Camaro and I hated that things, I drove it hard. Nice kill.

Re: Thirdgen vs 2 Stangs

It was fun. Running them down this weekend won't be happening cause we got snow on the ground. Next weekend should be good weather and if things work out right they will be then facing my car with the exhaust leak fixed & the Ultra-Pro Mags as well as the T/A. This time I'll take out my own camera to ensure I have the video.
