Re: BEATING A GOAT!

IF its making around 600 whp, you wont win, the gto is heavier, but right now your not making enough power.

The AFR's will be an great improvement over your iron heads, and your cam specs mean nothing, need more info there.

If you want to be faster, a procharger or turbo setup would be a great idea, but $$$$

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

GTOs are just plain crappy at a drag strip. I know, I own one. I'd bet that with your current setup you'd beat him at the strip, he might have you in MPH but not in ET. AFR heads, even moreso. And Magnachargers aren't the best choice for FI-ing a Goat. I wouldn't worry to much.

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

GTO's don't run like crap. There are crappy drivers that blame the car but it takes some effort to drive them. Mine went 13.25 when it was bone stock and I have a "slow" LS1 GTO. Took 4 trips to the track to figure out how to launch it. Even so, the very first run was a wheel hopping 13.6 and that was with 600 miles on the clock

It's going to take a heck of a good driver to beat that GTO, even with bad driving on the GTO's part.

I think (hope) its accualy 585 at the flywheel ,with a T56 behind it
My cam is a comp hyd. roller 230/236 @.05 .509/.510 lift on a 110*lsa and its under an eddl. rpm air gap witch I left out
If he weighs 4000+ and I can get to 3100ish you think Ill have a shot?
Ill gut that marro in a second just to spank his goat
Im planning on my head swap (possibly cam too) to be the deciding factor so oppinions on head / cam combos would help
I work for years on a dream car and he just goes to a dealership and buys a faster one!?!
credit card debt here I come

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

You have a good crank , and rods. Didnt say what pistons but Id assume forged.

how about bolts? 2 bolt 4 bolt ? etc..
head gaskets? Head bolts? RIng gaps?
What kinda converter you have?

Put the AFR's on
get a Vic . Jr intake
Deff. a bigger cam.

Toss a 150 shot on it to start. and go from there.
If he is a bad driver like you said he will suck launching that car and spin off the line.
This is where the race will be won. If you can hook off the line and you can 60 ft and 1/8 mile him. you should have him covered the complete 1/4 mile.

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

friend of mine went a 7.80 in the 1/8 on 17" et streets with a stock m6 LS1gto w/bolt ons. was making 350ish rwhp at that time. despite the weight, those things can still run very well with a decent driver.

forged flat top SRPs ,Eagle I beam 6" rods
4bolt 010/020 1974 block from a C20 van .030 over
unsure the head gasket but I will be using an ultra thin one with my fully CNC AFRs
the new bolts will be ARP
SPEC stage III clutch on a Centerforce 2pc rear seal flywheel for the 97' T56
Petronics second strike
DUI dist with bronze gear
Walbro 255 inline #8 AN lines with return style reg.
Im thinkin 195 AFRs so I dont have to machine the pistons for 2.08 valves with the 210s
What do you think for a cam, it still has to be remotely "streetable" the vernon cops just LOVE me around here.
while im there I mght as well go 1.6 RRs also
for the nos Im a little nervous dosent that stuff kill pistons and rings super fast? I would like to get a few years out of her, spesfically more than he will get from his DD Goat(yes winter DD too )

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

everything sounds like a good combo.
383 can take alot more cam then you think and still be streetable. esp. with a t56 since you want need a big converter to go with it.

Id say something like a
292XFI
Hyd. 2200 to 6200
Dur @ .05 242 248 .584 .579
Lobe Seperation 110

nitrous is only bad if your dont tune right for it. a little colder plug and back off your timing some. As with anything any kind of detonation will kill a piston. Its not like your gonna be pushing that button 24/7 with the nitrous. Just when ya need it.

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

Well whatever you do you cant get in a speed war with people. There is always someone faster than you. Third gens aren't the be all end all in the speed department. and even of you do have a quick ride there is always someone with more money. I had the fastest car between my friends till some kids dad bought him an EVO, just remember you can't win em all.

The companies selling parts win no matter what. My good friend has a baby-cammed, bolt on 05' M6 car... 11.80's @ 116+ at full weight on 17" DR's. Another friend has an 04' A4 car w/a Procharger, stall, exhaust... 11.90's @ 115 MPH on 18" Nittos. They are heavy, but can get up and move with the right parts - just like anything else.

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

exactally what the last 2 people said. but you can have a goal and his is to beat a buddy of his. If ya have the $ and time it shouldn't be hard. Look for good deals.

Im sure my supercharged 383 will be quick when tuned. people are running 9's on the same combo. I know a ton of people WAY faster. Thats ok. I built what I want to have fun with. A kick *** street car to cruise with the top down and put a smack down of a few bikes. Ya there will be a ton of faster people and if your buddy in the goat beats you. learn why, driver errors usually it. So learn your car, goto the track practice your driving skills. etc..

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

Slap a built LQ9 under your hood and say bye bye GTO! Haha, no but in all seriousness, GTO's are wicked cars, especially with the 6.0 in em. I think they can do over 200mph stock from what I've heard. Gonna be tough to take him down I think. Honestly though, he didn't build it so that would be my fuel for the fire. You took a pathetic 15 second car and made it do mid to low 12's I'm assuming? He just went and bought one, so he can't take credit for a car he didn't build. Thats where the street cred comes in, so in my eyes, you'll always be the winner.

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

Weak arguement, we're not racing wallets - we're racing cars the last time I checked. Like it or not, if it's fast, it's fast. Doesn't matter if they built it or bought it. I DIY most everything due to a lack of funds, but I won't knock a guy just because he can afford more than I can.

Stock in the US is 155 or so, I'd have to check my stock file to be sure.

European Monaro's didn't get a limiter. The 6.0 Monaro went 180 over there when it came out.

Posted above. Limited at 155 unless you use HTP tuner. etc. to raise it. Most set it at 205

Thats just it. If the goat spins and he can hook his maro and beat em to the 60ft - 1/8th mile and carry his speed. The goat will have to play catch up at the big end. On street tires that would be what the goat driver should do. lanuch off idle and then hit it hard and chase em down and take em on the big end.

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

Is the goat an auto??? I raced a guy with an 06 GTO. He had H/C/I, headers and a stall with some nittos. He absoooolutely killed me out of the hole. From a 20 mph roll and a 30mph roll I could take him as long as I started in second gear and short shift at 5500 into 3rd. My car has traction issues and 1st and 2nd are totally useless at WOT and 3rd can be challanging at times.

I say you are in for a world of hurt with your current combo but you never know until you line em up

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

OK I got somethin for you to chew on
an LS2 puts out 400 flywheel hp right? A goat with a Maggie and full exaust probably makes 50% more hp flywheel right? 600hp
600-20% = 480whp/4000lb=8.33lb per hp
thats on stock susp and 235x18s
Now if I make 485 fw hp -20% = 388whp/3200lbs = 8.24lb per hp
this is on full bolt on susp. and 275x17s
thats 8.33lb/hp, him --- 8.24lb/hp, me
@ 3200lbs I think I have a shot. Let me know if you can help with my math.

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

Every one hundred pounds dropped normally equates to a tenth of a second cut off of your ET. You have an 800 hundred pound advantage over him, and that is eight tenths right there, however, there is more to it than just quoting peak horsepower numbers and weight. LS2's make excellent power under the curve, and it is linear throughout the RPM band, and that is without the maggie. There is also the question of if he's running an automatic w/stall, and if he is, he'll most certainly have the better sixty foot, unless your reaction time and shifting is spot on. Faster? Well, whoever has the higher (lower, numerically) final gear ratio will be faster. Quicker in the 1/4? I still say the Goat has you, but not by that much....

Yea I know they are limited from the factory but I could have swore I saw a video somewhere where they took a pretty stock GTO without the limiter, and did 200mph.......and it WAS mph, and not kmh.

Re: BEATING A GOAT!

I know my buddies '04 GTO topped out at 165mph when we took the limiter off. His was a A4 so I'd imagine the M6 might be able to hit 170mph but really don't know. They don't have enough power to go that much faster.

You took a pathetic 15 second car and made it do mid to low 12's I'm assuming? He just went and bought one, so he can't take credit for a car he didn't build. Thats where the street cred comes in, so in my eyes, you'll always be the winner.
200mph.....wow your dumb
