Subaru Impreza (WRX) STI. Ugly cars that are riced out from the factory. And they are actually pretty fast... I know my car couldn't take one... But i just have my tired old LB9 until i get a real job...

Quick cars, mid to low 13s off the showroom floor, and with some mods 12s all day long! We have a LOT of fast local STIs!

Re: lost to an sti??
my brother has one. The best thing i'd have to say about the car is handling. The all wheel drive traction control really makes you feel like you are a race car driver in any weather. Doing 60 around an exit ramp is totally alien to someone who's never been in a car like it.
I'm sure that also leads to a lot of idiots getting into accidents while trying to break the laws of physics.
It just doesn't have the right look for me though. He seems to enjoy it however.

Re: lost to an sti??
umm they arent really riced from the factory dunno how ya get that.. dude even ls1 cars stock for stock have problems with them they are running some stupid 290 horse from a flat 4 with stock boost capacity of around 12 lbs. i posted this not with the ignorence of thinking they arent fast but considering my altitude (maybe 4 500 feet below what denver is) my car isnt exactly what you would call slow i have no weight reduction in this car as a matter of fact i also have 2 12's an amp and the rest of the stereo system in my car n im running serious times for a third gen weighing 3500 lbs. so 13 second subarus arent really to intimidating to me but this thing was mean i mean stupid powerful the blow off was not just a solid hiss it shuddered and spun at every boost.
BUT IT WAS KINDA FUNNY TO SEE HIM GO THROUGH 3 GEARS BY THE TIME I LEFT 2ND

By riced i was referring to the hood scoop and huge spoiler, I think that Subaru went a little overboard there... and as much as i hate to say it i could respect those butt ugly cars. I know they are stupid fast, I didn't say they weren't.

They are fast, regardless of how they look, but I don't get how that makes them a rice car.
If he shot flames, there might just be a little work done to it... maybe even a lot more boost than factory. That boxer motor is pretty tough.

Superbirds ARE NOT riced. They are built to be aerodynamic. Also, that car has no hoodscoop, and the paint is a normal enough color... That demotivational makes no sense... ALL I'm, saying about the Subaru, is that that PARTICULAR model LOOKS like a rice car (not that it is one). The wing and hood scoop are REDICULOUS!

Re: lost to an sti??
sorry i didnt mean to sound condisending (yes i spell horribly) and i agree the wing is rediculous.. but the hood scoop is a must, subaru uses a top mount intercoller placed above the boxer engine and that scoop is sort of a ram air to deliver cold air to the intercooler it would get nothing but heat soak and be useless without that big ramscoop.

He pulled 4 car lengths on you in a matter of 40 mph???
Just curious, what are the exact times and MPH you ran at the track?
Sucks that you lost but the STi's aren't slouches....the thing I loved about racing against them is the unknown...you could run a stock one(no match really) or you can run one that's modded to high heaven and stare at tail lights lol
So don't feel bad...it just gives you an excuse to mod some more.

Just an FYI for everyone about STI's and Evos. With all the right bolt ons those cars are hella quick. Even stock they are fast and the AWD dominates. Here at my school i have a few friends one has a Skittle(SRT-4) and the other a Evo 8 and a Viper. The skittle and the evo have the same mods, tubo inlet, bov, huge front mounts, upgraded piping, chipped exhaust, everything you can bolt on. The Evo destroys the Skittle off the line, its insane how AWD out performs a FWD or a RWD car off the line, The Evo is faster than his viper by about a length and the Skittle runs about even once he hooks. STis are on the same platform and everything about both cars is performance, performance, performance. STi's can run with Vettes, i think thats pretty badass, and at about half the price. But i still love my camaro more lol
but chaoz28 with your mods that should have been a decent race, if hes got that much on you so fast he has to have like a low 11 sec car at least. Your car is far from slow......

I said they can run with them not beat them. Isnt the stock 1/4 time for both a c5 and c6 in the 13's? Im not talking z06's here thats a whole different class lol. Anyways average 1/4 mile for STi's is 13.4 range.

C6's vary between the trans and LS2/LS3 but they're all 12.7-low 12 second cars.
The STi's are cool little cars, I'd rock one as a daily driver.

Yea i drove my friends up in the snow out in wisconsin. We used to go ripping through empty lots and such. Pretty fun times. I never knew the C6's were so quick though. I wish i had the money for one of them.

The LS3 is an amazing motor...with a tune, CAI and headers they're easily in the 11's. It's just a shame that GM bogged them down some much with the torque management in the PCM programming.
Ideally I'd love to have a STi as a daily and the C6 as the weekend car

Re: lost to an sti??
sorry dude but your crazy they definition of a ***** is "A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car to make it look faster." and a sti is not a ***** they can be riced yes but they didnt come riced and if ur gona talk about the hood scoops ur crazy cause its not there just for looks it goes straight to the intercooler witch u could really then call they iroc hood more ***** cause it has lovers that are not functional and the same with the z28 wing cause the sti wing isn't much bigger and it dose look good and also has a purpose cause the sti is for road racing. by the way every one im not trying to talk **** on the irocs and z28s cause i really love them im just getting my point across
The End.

Re: lost to an sti??
You're not pushing double the stock power with "little mods". Unless that number comes from the useless adding of hypothetical hp numbers from all the boltons and easy modifications and electronic changes that are done. The majority of cars like these that you see are simply WRX's, the STI is like the Z28 to our RS. Bigger turbo basically.
Most are the <300hp stock WRX's with STI badges and the coffee can exhaust (and if they had the cash, a really really big BOV. Now, you'll get some that have done all the easy mods and made their WRX have the same hp/tq as an STI (or close to it, but they're pushing their smaller turbo pretty hard). Then you'll see even less than that have actual STI's. And even less than that actually do stuff to their STI to make it even faster.
It's not so much that they're really awesome as that they're new cars, with turbos from the factory, so increasing hp and torque a good amount is not a whole lot more complicated than increasing boost and using an OBD2 (or whatever suburu bastardizes it to) tuner to fix up some values for fueling. Add that to the AWD and you have something that is definitely fast off the line, even stock, and has the ability to have speed at the top end too.
But seriously, i look at it and I dont see a fast car. I see a sedan that was retrofitted at the factory for racing. Which is what it is. Maybe that's why people have a problem with how it looks, with it's scoop and rear wing.

The WRX and STi Differ GREATLY. A WRX is a turbocharged 4wd 2.0L engine and most of the time comes with the smaller wing like found on the Impreza non turbos or the WRX Spec-C from japan. The STi is a racecar for the street. Every single aspect is different than a regular WRX, Brakes, tires, differentals, transmission, intercooler with water injection, a 2.5L turboed engine, exhaust. A WRX pulls a low 14 sec 1/4 and a STi pulls low 13s. The WRX's and STi's look very different in stock form, the Sti's also have flared rear fenders. Its pretty much the 1LE of Imprezas, except anyone can order them.

I'm not sure where you live, but where I live there are more STIs than regular WRXs, and the regular ones seem to be as highly modded as the STIs. I have heard rumors some of the fastest Subarus in the country have been spotted in our local cruise area, and a friend of mine even specializes in Subaru tuning, and helps with some very fast Subaru and EVO race cars. Each area is different, but I can assure you where I am, what you said is not even close to the truth.

But i still love my camaro more lol
first, AWD doesnt dominate RWD. on the street, yes, AWD will have a slight advantage over a RWD car since more than likely the RWD car wont be on slicks and public roads dont even compare to a well prepped track surface. at the dragstrip tho, with a properly setup RWD car and a well prepped strip, it WILL beat an AWD car off the line everytime. in fact, the SyTy crowd usually converts their AWD setup to RWD when they reach a certain point
second, STIs dont cost nearly half of what a C6 does. comparing both new car prices, the Vette specs in at around 45k and the STI is at 32k

Ive had turbo'd cars before, they are ALOT of fun to drive, especially when you hit full boost , hence my user name NO BOOST = NO GO

Re: lost to an sti??
sounds like he was boosting quite alot, i'm surprised he didnt get you off the lne, those cars are awd and those little engines can def. handle some boost, a few mods like exahust, bigger turbo a tune 20+ psi and its a 11sec car. i know cuz i did some research when i almost traded my trans am in for one. hehe

Re: lost to an sti??
nah, im not talking about the newest ones. I'm talking about the ones that i like. years 04, 05, and 06. 300 hp and 300 lb of torque stock. they're only about 16k to 22k. i hate the new ones, i've never liked wagon-type cars. but yea, the 08 and up are like 30k.

The point flew over your head I know you can't find a "new" '05. I was just saying that the older ones were still close to $30K new...so the performance better be there for a $30K car.

Re: lost to an sti??
damn straight i wouldnt buy a sports orientated car of any price if it the performance wasnt there.. and even used if you pay 16-20 grand it better be able to beat a 25 year old stock car with no problems.. now put it up against a yenko z28 and kiss your 05 goodbye

Re: lost to an sti??
Dude that was AWESOME! Back in my ***** days I had a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T and I had the chance to race against one(an Impreza). We were both side by side for about 150' and then he just walked off and left me. But I think he was holding out on me. I don't care what anybody says, Subaru's are ungodly fast cars. And they look good from the factory. I don't classify Subaru's as ricers. They have some of the best R&D of any car manufacturers. And their power is amazing.
