1984 Z28 vs SUPRA

My car, 1984 Z28 with a 350
mods include:
Weland Xcelerator Intake Manifold
Edelbrock 600cfm 4 Barrel carb
mild edelbrock performer camshaft and lifters
shift kit
mine is automatic

His supra is the 82-86 version of the supra, i don't know what year, but at tops stock it has 161 HP and like 169 ft/lbs runs a 16.1 quarter mile at best. i sure hope he doesn't have this model, i think i run 16 second quarter miles maybe mid 15's, but knowing him he's got plenty of mods, i know that he pulled the engine at one time, but idk for what. say its stock with maybe mild mods, who do u think will take the race?

Re: 1984 Z28 vs SUPRA

that model years they Toyota didn't even have the J series engines even made up. if it was a stock replacement motor he is probably running a 5mgte engine maybe a 6mgte. if it is turbo you still don't have much to worry about unless he has a after market turbo and a whole bunch of goodies. now on the other hand if he got a front clip form MK3 supra and swaped over the engine and wiring then he could be running a single turbo 3.0 7mgte, or even worse a 2.5 twin turbo 1jzgte.

but all that cost money if hes running a n/a 5m then dont even worry about it

Re: 1984 Z28 vs SUPRA

older supras arent too fast unless you throw a lot of money at it but if they swaped in a 1jgte or did a non turbo to turbo conversion then you would have to watch out! i know my 1995 supra 2jzgtte was insaine and stock turbos were good to about 15-20 plbs of boost with a boost controller!

Re: 1984 Z28 vs SUPRA

1jz's were not originaly produced in america. theyre an actual jdm motor. lol

they had som kind of 7mg thing which was teh american 1jz. It was actually a tad bit larger displacement, but had a bad head gasket problem in which toyota replaced all of the 7m's with the 1jz which is why everyone sees them with 1 jzs

either way they can be fast with a ebay turbo kit.

Re: 1984 Z28 vs SUPRA

82-86 Celica-Supras only came with the 2.8L 5M-GE in America. So you are about right on the power.

Little clarification for American model Supras.
86.5 came with a 7M-GE 200hp 3.0 liter naturally aspriated engine.
87-92 came with a the same n/a 3.0 and the 7M-GTE turbo 3.0 liter rated at 230-232hp.
93-98 came with either a 2JZ-GE which is n/a rated at 210hp or the 2JZ-GTE turbo model which is rated at 315hp or so.

Any of the Turbo engines are very potent power plants but the non turbo motors are nothing to worry about.

Re: 1984 Z28 vs SUPRA

am I the only one noticing the fact hes saying hes running 16s to mid 15s with a 350. Are you sure its a 350? hell a stock 350 will run a low 15 maybe high 14.

Re: 1984 Z28 vs SUPRA

you shouldnt be running that high of a quarter, i made a mid 15 second pass with no posi in my car and i have a 350 TBI. However, if he doesnt have a turbo you should have him, if he has the 2J engine however, your done for. You would probably know if he had that though.
