Re: 305 vs. 3.8?
If your car is in good tune, it would be a drivers race. He has a bit of an hp advantage, and you have a bit of torque advantage. You maybe a little lighter, but have taller gears. I think the 3.8l auto came with 3.08 gears in the back, and yours are 2.73 I think stock. It may be an even race, or he may be a little faster.

i'm really not the one to give advice, but i think you may pull on im from a dig, but he may pull on you from a roll?

Re: 305 vs. 3.8?
I had a '97 RS with headers/exhaust and it would routinely trap 89.6-89.8 MPH at the strip... I never managed better than 15.6 though because of my crappy 2.3 second 60' times. They're pretty potent for what they are. I'd say the 3.8 has this race, either from a dig or on the highway... it's got good pull all the way to the 6300 RPM limiter too.
I later cammed the same car (VS cam from zzperformance) and got it dynoed... came up with 210 RWHp. I managed to pull off a 0-60 of 5.9 seconds according to HP-Tuner... Unfortunately, I never did get to take it to the strip after the cam.

the 3.8 mustang only has 195 hp depends on year, and the 3.8 camaro has 200hp so theres 5 diff there. and proly why you beat him was because of your tourqe. i beat a v6 mustang and also had one call my car ****.

Re: 305 vs. 3.8?
Some of the earlier 3.8L mustangs had less than that. I think that they were rated at 145 -150hp, less than the 3.4L f-bodies. They didn't improve the 3.8L engine in the mustang until about 99 or 2000. I believe the 3800 series II f-bodies with the Y87 package to be the quickest v6 fourth gens. One of those might present a problem for an LO3. They came with a manual trans, faster steering ratio, and a 3.42 posi rear end if I remember correctly. 0-60 in those cars was in the low 7 sec range.

Re: 305 vs. 3.8?
Well this was a 95 BUT it has a couple goodies like a cold air intake and a cherrybomb turbo muffler. It doesnt really give it much but its ok I guess. As long as he likes it, then its fine by me.

Re: 305 vs. 3.8?
94-98 stangs had 145 hp/215 ft.lbs and 2.73 gears, 99-00 had 190/220, 01-04 had 193/225, my 02 with intake/exhaust tune ran 15.8s consecutively but was trapping 89 mph (damned 2.4 60'), i have yet to race a 3800 with this set up but when i was stock one pulled about a car and a half on me, ford 4R70W auto sucks ***** compared to the 4l60
when my dad owned the stang and i had a 92 with 3.73s, and exhaust (granted 215k on the clock of a LO3) and the stang would pull so slightly till like 55 ish then start pulling more (3.27s it kept pulling through second gear till 75 just under the limiter, IMO its a "smart" way to race)
does his car have duals? duals = Y87 package which is Z28 drive train (3.42 posi is the biggest thing in the autos, manuals still had 3.23)
LO3s are very slow for what they are, id sell my stang if i could hunt down the guy who baught my old one
