89 Iroc vs 97 LT1
Today I was at a red light when a loud white camaro pulled up next to me, and started to rev it up high at me. The light turns green and I put it as far down as i could trying hard not to spin, he had a standard and it seemed he launched it high cause i heard his tires spining. I got a better launch and took him off the line. By 35 I had him by about 1/2 car [if that] and I held him up to 85 where we shut down. I think that if we went much higher we would have passed me. Not sure what mods he had..all i know is that he def had an aftermarket exhaust on that thing with probably no cats. Fun times.
I got an 89 iroc 350 with a cat back, headers, intake and runners, chip, and all the free mods. Im running 13.4's at 100 right now.

very nice, on the street from a dig it is a good match...but my buddies 95 LT1 with full exhaust and a tune walks me all day long. even at the track, my 1.78 60 foot gets me out 2 cars or so on his 1.95 60 foot and he still passes me
LT1's are strong.
by 85 on, its all him! good run tho

Yeah im not sure if i could have held him up to 100. Lt1s usually run high 13's to low 14's stock. and he had a few little mods so he was probably in the mid 13's..maybe even low

Re: 89 Iroc vs 97 LT1
Weird... My buddys automatic 95 Z28 with 50,000 miles had a full exhaust, cai, chip, msd, drag radials, and 3.23's. The best he could run was 13.76 at about 100 on a cool night. LT1's put down a wide variety of numbers on the dyno. Anywhere from roughly 220-260 seems to be the norm. Some run low 14's, some run low 13's. Failing opti-sparks are probably to blame when it comes to the slower cars. Either way though, Nice Race!

Re: 89 Iroc vs 97 LT1
thats what i thought too. most auto LT1's i seen were only doing mid high 13's at 102-103 with exhaust. But last wednesday, my buddy went 12.96 at 106.8 mph on a 1.91 60 foot. stock auto/stall, stock heads/no cam, street tires. JUST INSANELY FREAKY fast. his car was only doing 13.3-13.4's at 103-104 until he changed o2 sensors and got a tune. his o2's were bad and screwing him up. that car is unbelievable fast
damn, thats what the average ls1 would do with those mods

Re: 89 Iroc vs 97 LT1
my GFs LT1 Formula went 13.2 at almost 104mph with only CAI, a catback, LCAs, DRs, and some free mods (TB bypass, LT4 knock module, etc). 60ft was in the mid 1.9s. thats with stock 3.23 gears, an auto trans, and her driving! so id think a 12.9 with LTs wouldnt be considered all that freakish. in fact, thats what were shooting for with her car since i added a set of Pacesetter LTs and deleted a few things under the hood (A/C and AIR) to save some weight

Re: 89 Iroc vs 97 LT1
yea and they have the reverse flow coolant aluminum heads that blow ours away and a well matched intake,, i'd say lt1 swaps are more plausible then LS swaps, easier and cheaper, but then im not big on hugely powerful cars, just well balanced ones.
honestly in my opinion the 4th gens got better power plants, but we still have the lightest platform with the best handling. on top of this we accomplish the lightest part with a full iron engine, with alum. heads our balance gets even better nearing 50/50. i'd rather have a thirdgen with an lt1 then a 4thgen ls1 car.

Re: 89 Iroc vs 97 LT1
If you're trapping 100 that's enough to walk a few LT1s. I seem to remember my bone stock passes in my 97 were trapping about 98 mph. The car later ran 12.9 @ 105mph with minor bolt-ons.
