My L98 vs LT1

A guy I know has been talking how his LT1 will smoke my L98, so I thought I would get your guys opinion.

Me: 2.77s posi, k&n filter, B&M shift kit, Hooker Headers, Edelbrock exhaust, custom burned chip, 160 t-stat, and 1.6 roller rockers.

Him: Bone Stock LT1, 6 speed, stock gears (what did they come with?).

6 speeds come with 342s stock. As long as his car is in good running order he should beat you. You never said what his car was, but im assuming 93-97 camaro or trans am.

Re: My L98 vs LT1

my 88 iroc had a 5.7 headers(hooker shorties),2.5" y-pipe,slp muffler,3.27s,5spd conv.,pulley's,on bfg 285/40/17 radials i ran 13.7@104
my lt1 in avitar has a catless 2.5"y-pipe,3.42s,m6 and runs 14.2@100 on the c6s and 13.86@101 with stocks all this at 2700'.
you will need a 2600stall,3.42s to run beat him

Re: My L98 vs LT1

I beat LT1s off the line 80% of the time (assuming its stock). But I have 3.27 Gears. However he will pull you eventually. It really does suck when you jump him off the line and slowly get run down , oh well. Nothing a little camshaft cant help with

Re: My L98 vs LT1

Didn't stocks LT1s come anywhere with 275 - 310hp depending on Z28 or SS

and I know if sorta off topic , but I'm just wondering cuz I know a guy with a stock 96 LT1 6 speed around here and I was wondering how my car would stand against one, which its a LB9, mods are in the sig.

They all had pretty much right around 300, except for the 93s which had slightly less. At least according to dyno tests and the general consensus in the community.WS6s and SSs were just rated properly, the regular models were underrated. If you've ever seen the SS hood scoop you'll see why it doesn't add 25 hp. I wouldn't be surprised if you lost power with it.

It should be a decent race, but if he can drive the car he should take you.

hmm... first ive heard of that.
at a dyno day a few years back, my 93 put down a little MORE power than the other LT1 cars there that day. (most cars had the same basic mods)
not trying to jack the thread, lol.

Re: My L98 vs LT1

93's generally were stronger than the 94-95 cars. Speed density vs. MAF. All 3 years were rated at 275hp though. 285 for 96-97 and 305 for 96-97 SS and WS6 cars.

Also, 93's had either 2.73 or 3.23 gears for both M6 and A4 cars. Different T56's for either gears. 94+ cars got 3.42 gears and 2.66 1st gear T56.

My WS6 pulled 2.0 short times the only time I had it to the track completely bone stock. TPI cars are about the same. Torque on a LT1 is a nice, flat line that kept pulling.

Going to be extremely hard to beat an LT1 with 2.77 gears. If he can't drive that well, then it will be a great race.

i wouldnt say that..those gears arent that bad. especially with 3.06 first gear in the auto trans. short powerband of TPI, those gears match fairly well. TPI has enough torque to power thru those highway gears

my car with 2800 stall and exhaust went 13.89 at 97-98 with street tires on a 1.89 60 foot. 3.27's i could barely do better...13.88 on a 1.93 60 foot.

Your stall takes the gears out of the equation. 2.77 and stock stall are SLOW. Too much to overcome out of the hole.

Re: My L98 vs LT1

it was hard to launch with those gears... TPI L98 just roasted tire...you still had to walk into the throttle with those gears. car got up good tho even with stock stall.
