86 305 Vs 97 Taurus SHO
I've never really posted on this site but i did use to own a 3rd gen. It was a former 2.8 car which i swapped in a 262 4.3 liter V8 out of a 75 Nova. Never got to run it but is now my brothers car, had 307 truck heads and cam. It sounded nice just lost interest in it when i had to work on my old Astro all the time to keep it on the road. Well, enough about that and onto the topic in hand.
There is a kid who recently bought an 86 camaro with a TPI 305 with an auto- i really couldnt tell you anything more about the car aside from him putting straight pipes on it, still a single exhaust just with cat and muffler removed and the rest being stock. I dont know the condition of the tune nor the approximate milage.
And then there is me. I have a 97 Taurus SHO (3.4 liter V8, stock is 235 horses-and scoots down the quarter somewhere around 15.7 seconds-all were autos) thats pretty much stock aside from 2 Bullet Pro Turbo mufflers and a cone filter in place of the stock airbox, which should be good for close to 250 horses. I've seen just those basic mods run a 15.4 with these cars. It's not a torquey vehicle in the low end and is definately a top end car- pulls harder then my brothers 97 GS-T on 10 pounds of boost over 40 MPH (confirmed by him driving it) and tops out at 144- of course i have no track times but as soon as test and tune days start up again i will.

I havent had the chance to run him but he always talks about beating 5.0 5 speed mustangs, LS1 WS6 trans ams, and the like. Which i dont believe for a second and i call him out on it every time he brings it up. But i can never seem to line up against him....not really sure if hes trying not to or what but im thinking he just likes to talk. I think it should be a close race and the worse i could do is lose to a camaro in my 4 door Front Wheel Drive family car-i didnt buy it to race but i do like to surprise and humble the occasional person.
How close do you think it would be? I'm no expert on third gens so i thought id come here and ask. I've always liked this community as well- you guys dont try to talk up your cars and make claims that arent true like most other forums do.
If he ever runs me id be sure to tell you guys the outcome.

Car: I've had 4 thrid gens!!
Engine: Someday again I will have another!!
Nice SHO.
If his car is mostly stock with the "hillybilly straight pipes" then I think it will come down to who gets out of the hole quicker. If its a full quarter mile you will have a better chance. His stock TPI will pull you to about the 1/8th mile then it hits a wall and thats your chance to put a couple cars on him. But, all and all the cars seem evenly matched.
Out running LS1s with a 305 TPI. Unless he is spraying nitrious and has more done then he is leading on. -Nick.

i believe they are welded, but i havent had the time to check and make sure
he doesnt have anything else done to it. He knows nothing about cars- actually claims to beat SRT-4 Neons with his Geo Tracker.....and no...i couldnt make stuff like that up
i figured from my lack of low end torque hed have an advantage for a little bit but once i passed him hed be gone....but thats figuring he can actually launch it correctly.
thanks for the compliments on my SHO

I have seen one that would absolutely rape a SRT-4. Can we say BBC! 540CID, TH400, 3.55 geared 9 inch. Tubular chassis. LOL

haha, SRT-4's. No BS I dragged one or two of those and they aint SH*T stock. This also reminds me, i was on my friend Jason's club site (Cheaters Inc.) http://www.cheaters-inc.com/ and in the video section of the forum some jackasses put together a video of a hyped up SRT-4 goosing two Z06 vettes and claiming they beat them. IM talking about a 05' Z and a new 07'. But the video is so edited they could make it look like anything. That stright pipe fool could jump you unitl 2nd gear, then he'd be a sitting duck. And thats a bad feeling but he needs to learn something. I was a sitting duck for an 03' Cobra, yeah.......end of story. Anyhow, call him out and if he doesnt stand up to it hes a puss.
