92 ZZ383RS vs. HT383 Monty SS

I met a guy that has a 85 Monty SS and he wants to run me, he says he has stock GM HT383 with a Edelbrock carb, Air Gap intake, headers and 700 Auto, with 3.23 rear. Check my sig for my info. I just got this running a few weeks ago so I haven't ran it at the track yet, so I don't know how fast it is, but it feels pretty good.

You will win.Though I think the HT383 is underated.I ran a guy in a thirdgen with a ht383 and I have the zz4 and he just didn't pull me down low he pulled me a little up top to.The motors are rated at 340hp and 435tq but he had a performer RPM instead of the performer style intake and I think it made a big difference in the top end. Lets put it this way, I have a friend who has a zz4fastburn in a thirdgen that weighs the same as the third gen with the 383ht that I raced and there is no way my friends zz4fastburn would beat it because he can't beat me.This is mainly because my car is 3280Lbs with me in it,his weighs 3620 if I remember right. My point is that the power curve on the ht383 must be real flat and I don't think that the zz4 or fastburn is up to the task.Back to the real subject, you will win.You guys have the same shortblock, your heads flow a little better and are aluminum and of course you have a way bigger cam.Does this guy know what you have? It seems obvious that you would win unless he is pulling your leg. There is absoultely no lope in the ht383.Trust me because I thought the guy I was racing with the 383ht was spraying until I found out it was an ht383.It has a stock idle.Way quieter than my zz4.

That's what I was thinking too, but I wasn't sure if his better low end torque and automatic trans would help him get me out of the hole better and I would have to play catch up. I forgot to mention he has bigger rear tires and I'm a little traction limited right now until I get some bigger tires. I have to baby it out of the hole or both rear tires go up in smoke.

I have seen an 86 monte ss run 12.6 with your combo except it had a performer rpm air gap instead of the single plane.I think he had a 3.42-3.73 gear and a built 200r4.So I assume similar or better times for you.Low 12s are very possible if the car is setup right and you learn how to launch it.As for the ht383 monte, he probably runs mid-low 13s,both are a great foundation for power though.Good choice on the engine. You should shock alot of mild big blocks on the street.Get some good tires and learn how to launch it.If he keeps up with you it will only be through 1st and maybe part of 2nd gear. You have way more top end power.Good luck.
